Chapter 639 Trouble (1) the Monroe family

Cecilia walked Seraphina to the door, feeling a bit uneasy.

Some things, Seraphina had to handle on her own.

But when it came to Dashiell, Cecilia felt she needed to check in on him.

She always thought Dashiell had put up with a lot being with Seraphina.

She dialed his number. "Are you off work?" she asked.

It was already past working hours.

Dashiell glanced at the time and replied, "Nope."

"Seraphina just left my place," Cecilia said.

Dashiell, always sharp, knew exactly what she was getting at.

He chuckled softly, "Let's just pretend I didn't say anything last night."

Cecilia sighed, "I actually feel really bad for you."

"No need," Dashiell said, sounding indifferent.

Cecilia pressed on, "Do you know why Seraphina suddenly changed her mind and chose Sebastian?"

"Doesn't matter," Dashiell's voice was calm.

Cecilia realized there was no point in dwelling on it.

But she still said, "Sebastian took his own life."

Dashiell's hand holding the phone paused for a moment.

He didn't expect Sebastian to go that far.

But it still didn't change anything for him.

Seraphina chose to leave, and that was that.

Cecilia said, "Seraphina..."

"Are you asking if what I said before still stands?" Dashiell cut her off.

Cecilia pursed her lips.

Sometimes she felt a bit despicable.

When Dashiell and Seraphina divorced, Dashiell said he would change Seraphina's fate. Cecilia was genuinely afraid Seraphina would repeat the same mistakes. While she believed Seraphina needed to learn a few lessons, she felt no lesson should drive her to the point of suicide.

So, she was calling Dashiell now, for Seraphina's sake.

Cecilia chose to remain silent. Her silence was a form of acknowledgment.

Dashiell said, "Don't worry. I'll handle what needs to be done."

"Just giving up on loving Seraphina," Cecilia concluded.

Dashiell replied, "Okay."

"I don't even know what to say about Seraphina. If she knew Sebastian had ulterior motives, I wonder how she'd react?" Cecilia sighed.

"That's her business," Dashiell said, "It has nothing to do with me."

Cecilia really didn't know what else to say.

Matters of the heart were tough, and it was often hard to determine who was right or wrong.

"Let's not talk about Seraphina," Cecilia said, changing the subject. "Alaric's birthday is coming up."

Dashiell said, "In half a month."

Cecilia said, "I want to throw him a birthday party."

"Need my help?" Dashiell asked.

Cecilia had to admit Dashiell was really smart.

How could such a smart guy fall for Seraphina?

Cecilia said, "I just have a suggestion; I can't make the decision."

Dashiell said, "Tell me, I'll help you decide."

Cecilia shared her idea.

Dashiell thought for a moment and said, "It's great."

With his approval, a smile lit up Cecilia's face.

"But," Dashiell said, "be prepared to get scolded by Hugo."

Cecilia chuckled lightly.

It wouldn't matter anyway.

Cecilia and Dashiell chatted casually for a bit more.

Then they hung up.

Thinking about Alaric's birthday, Cecilia felt inexplicably excited.

And thinking about the baby she was carrying, she couldn't contain her excitement.

She thought for a moment and called Alaric.

To give him a moment to leave so she could talk to Seraphina, why hadn't he returned yet?The phone rang a few times before Alaric's smooth voice came through. "Miss me?" he teased.

Cecilia was used to Alaric's playful banter.

"Are you coming back?" she asked.

"Got held up by something," Alaric replied.

"What?" Cecilia felt a knot of worry tighten in her chest.

"The Monroe family found me," Alaric said.

Cecilia's heart skipped a beat. That kind of fear was unmistakable.

"Don't worry, the Monroe family won't do anything to me. I was expecting them to come to me anyway," Alaric reassured her.

Cecilia knew that too, but it meant their hard-earned peaceful days were coming to an end. Once the Monroe family found Alaric, there would inevitably be a storm in the noble family.

Cecilia kept her thoughts to herself, fully aware of the truth.

Alaric didn't say much either. He gently coaxed, "Once everything is over, it will truly be peaceful."

He was comforting her. Once everything was over, they could be together properly.

Cecilia responded, "Okay, I'll wait for you to come back."

"Take good care of yourself, and remember you're not alone anymore," Alaric reminded.

"Got it," Cecilia said, a bit impatiently. On the first day of knowing she was pregnant, Alaric was already so nagging. The thought of the coming days was terrifying!

"By the way, you didn't tell Seraphina you're pregnant, did you?" Alaric suddenly asked, sounding serious.

"No!" Cecilia was exasperated.

"Great," Alaric praised.

Cecilia didn't want to talk to Alaric anymore. She said, "Come back soon, bye."

"Bye." With that, Alaric hung up the phone.

The smile on his face disappeared again. After receiving the Monroe family's message to wait for them at the State Office, he found himself sitting there for two long hours, but the Monroes still hadn't shown up. Were they trying to assert their power?

Alaric sat in his office, patiently waiting. He stayed there until 8 PM. Almost everyone at the State Office had left. Then someone knocked on Alaric's office door.

Alaric's eyes moved slightly, and he said, "Come in."

The office door opened, and a man in a black suit appeared at the door. "Mr. Whitaker, Mr. Monroe is here to see you."

Alaric nodded. He got up and followed the man in the black suit through the State Office's corridors. He was surrounded by black-clad bodyguards standing in two rows, looking very imposing.

Alaric walked through several corridors before entering a spacious office in the State Office. Inside, a man was sitting. When he saw Alaric, he smiled lightly and said, "Alaric, we meet again."

Alaric replied respectfully, "It's not really a reunion, Mr. Monroe; I'm just honoring you."

Tomas smiled. His smile revealed nothing of his emotions. His smile still felt cold and arrogant. It gave a natural sense of distance.

He said, "I'll skip the pleasantries. I came all the way from Astralton City to Serenovia City to find you. You should know what I want, right?"

"Please enlighten me," Alaric said cautiously.

Tomas appreciated Alaric's calm and composed attitude. Thinking about the Dominic he had trained for years, he realized he had made the wrong choice back then. In the end, Dominic even caused Lyra's happiness to suffer. The more Tomas thought about it, the more he regretted it.

A cold glint flashed in his eyes, and he said, "I'll be straightforward. Alaric, I think you're quite impressive!"
