Chapter 232 The Wedding (4) Don't Touch Me

"Give me your hand," Dashiell called softly.

Seraphina bit her lip, hesitating. She didn't want to, even though her heart fluttered when he said her name. Her hatred for him was stronger.

They were at a standstill.

"I'm using a cane; I can't pull you up," Dashiell explained.

Seraphina glanced at him again and extended her hand, not because she softened, but to avoid wasting time and being a spectacle.

Dashiell sighed in relief, hiding his anxiety. He gently slipped the ring onto her finger. He had bought it himself, guessing her size, and it fit perfectly. Seraphina wondered if he had measured her finger without her knowing.

"Seraphina, it's your turn," Dashiell reminded.

"I know. I'm just unwilling," she muttered, not admitting she was distracted.

Dashiell didn't push her, but the priest prompted, "Please, the bride, put the ring on the groom."

Reluctantly, Seraphina placed the ring on Dashiell's finger. She planned to throw it away after the ceremony.

The priest announced, "I now pronounce Ms. Everhart and Mr. Rainier legally married. The groom, you may kiss your lawful wife!"

The crowd buzzed. Dashiell tried to act natural, moving his cane and approaching Seraphina.

"Don't touch me," she said coldly.

Dashiell stopped, just inches away from kissing her. From a distance, it looked like they kissed, but the closest guests saw they didn't.

The priest ended the ceremony, and everyone followed the staff out. Cecilia glanced back, seeing Dashiell's doctor helping him into a wheelchair. This must have been his limit.

Cecilia left with Alaric. Meanwhile, Dashiell and Seraphina sat in a black sedan, heading to city hall instead of the banquet. Seraphina realized they hadn't gotten their marriage license yet. Legally, they weren't married.

She stormed inside, determined. With an appointment, they skipped the line and submitted their documents. A marriage license was placed before them. Seraphina didn't want it until Dashiell said, "We'll need it for the divorce too."

Motivated by "divorce," she grabbed it. The staff was stunned, seeing the unwilling bride and the gently smiling groom.

Anyone could see it: the groom's eyes were full of the bride.

After getting the marriage license, they returned to the car in silence. Seraphina wouldn't speak to Dashiell, and he wouldn't speak to her. They were like strangers sharing a ride.

It was a marital partnership. One day, they'd part ways.

The car quickly arrived at the five-star resort hotel at the golf course. Before heading to the banquet hall, they went to their separate dressing rooms to change.

Seraphina didn't want to change, but when she saw Cecilia waiting for her, she was speechless. "Aren't you supposed to be with Alaric? What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to make sure you change," Cecilia replied, knowing exactly what Seraphina wanted to do. She instructed the staff to help Seraphina change clothes. Seeing no resistance, she said, "I'll go check on Dashiell."

"What's so interesting about him?" Seraphina snapped, annoyed.

Cecilia had already left and walked to Dashiell's dressing room across the hall. She knocked, and Magnolia opened the door.

"Ms. Rainier," Cecilia greeted politely.

Magnolia was polite in return. She was polite to everyone, including Seraphina, though Seraphina always disliked her. So, Magnolia kept a cool distance.

"I'm here to see Dashiell."

"He's inside," Magnolia said, letting her in.

Cecilia saw Dashiell getting an IV. The doctor was also adjusting his bones, which had been slightly dislocated from standing earlier.

"I'm fine," Dashiell quickly explained. "Magnolia was just worried, so she had the doctor check."

The doctor glanced at Dashiell, clearly showing he was lying.

"Go ahead, I want to talk to Magnolia for a bit," Cecilia said, not wanting to disturb Dashiell.

"Come sit here," Magnolia invited, leading Cecilia to a nearby sofa. They sat at a respectful distance.

When she was younger, Cecilia was influenced by Seraphina. Whoever Seraphina disliked, Cecilia disliked too—like Seraphina's father Atticus, her stepmother Magnolia, and even Dashiell.

As she was reborn, she realized how foolish she had been. She almost denied all the good people and affirmed all the bad ones.

"Magnolia, I wanted to talk about Seraphina," Cecilia said directly.

Magnolia sighed softly, "I know Seraphina isn't bad at heart."
