Chapter 288 Entering the Wrong Room
Alaric carried the basin of warm water to the bathroom.
At that moment, George brought in the supplements.
Cecilia gulped down the supplements, and just as she was about to fall asleep, the phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the caller ID.
She saw that Alaric had already come out of the bathroom.
Hearing her phone ring, his expression changed noticeably, "Who’s calling you this late?"
"Dashiell," Cecilia said.
Alaric frowned.
"I'll take the call on the balcony." With that, she walked straight to the balcony.
Alaric pressed his lips together.
In the end, he chose not to care.
On the balcony, Cecilia answered the call, "Dashiell."
Dashiell asked, "Are you asleep?"
"Thanks to Alaric, not yet," Cecilia said with a hint of helplessness.
If it weren't for Alaric, she would have been asleep by now.
"Am I interrupting you two?" Dashiell asked hurriedly.
He was clearly misunderstanding the situation.
Cecilia felt exasperated and explained, "It's not what you think."
"What do I think?" Dashiell chuckled.
Dashiell was not one to joke around, but he was clearly teasing her now.
"Anyway, it's not what you're thinking," Cecilia didn't want to explain further, feeling that the more she explained, the worse it would get. She changed the subject, "Why are you calling me so late?"
Dashiel responded, "I wanted to talk to you about Seraphina."
"Go ahead," Cecilia agreed, thinking it was time to have a serious talk about Seraphina with Dashiell.
Dashiell said, "I met Atticus tonight. He really wants Seraphina to work at the House of Everhart Bank, but Seraphina isn't listening to him. I thought, besides Sebastian, you're the one she listens to the most. Could you try to persuade her to work at the House of Everhart Bank?"
"Why do you want Seraphina to work there?" Cecilia asked.
Dashiell explained, "The Everhart family only has Seraphina as a daughter. Eventually, the House of Everhart Bank will be hers. If she doesn't start getting used to it now, how will she manage it in the future?"
"You're not just worried about her managing the bank, are you? You're more worried that Sebastian will take over the House of Everhart Bank, right?" Cecilia laid it out plainly.
Dashiell was visibly taken aback.
He probably didn't expect her to think that way.
"Why don't you tell Seraphina?" Cecilia asked Dashiell.
She had stayed out of their affairs because she wanted to respect Dashiell's choices.
Moreover, Dashiell was indeed protecting Seraphina, doing everything in his power to ensure she wasn't harmed in any way.
This overprotection meant he took all the burdens upon himself.
He really bore everything.
"Do you know something?" Dashiell asked Cecilia.
"I know everything you know," Cecilia replied.
Dashiell remained silent for a long time.
He thought he was the only one who knew about this.
Dashiell thought, 'Is it because Cecilia knows too that she is so unconditionally on my side?'
"Actually, you could consider telling Seraphina everything. She might not be as fragile as you think," Cecilia suggested.
"What if I say I want Seraphina to fall in love with me before I tell her? Would you think I'm overestimating myself?" Dashiell suddenly asked.
Cecilia smiled, "No."
"Seraphina has always thought Sebastian is the best person for her. She hates Atticus, she hates me. She finally found a man she likes, and I don't want her to know that she's been deceived by him all along. But if one day she falls in love with me, she won't feel like the whole world is against her," Dashiell explained.
Cecilia knew that Dashiell thought so.
So when exactly did Seraphina realize how good Dashiell was?
When exactly did Seraphina fall in love with Dashiell?
In the previous life, it was only when Seraphina was dying, seeing the text on her phone, that she realized Seraphina liked Dashiell.
"Sebastian has definitely been up to no good, but I can't do much about it right now. For Seraphina, the worse Sebastian's life gets, the harder it is for her to let go. My hope is that she can pull herself together and shift some of her focus to her work. One day, she'll take over House of Everhart Bank."
"Have you considered managing it for her?" Cecilia asked.
"Not for now," Dashiell replied, "If I were to step into House of Everhart Bank now, she'd think I'm after the Everhart family's fortune."
"Dashiell, I don't even know what to say," Cecilia sighed.
Her heart ached for Dashiell. She was on the verge of dragging Seraphina out and giving her a piece of her mind.
She thought, 'How could Seraphina be so blind to who truly cares for her?'
"So, it's up to you," Dashiell seemed unbothered.
His devotion to Seraphina seemed almost instinctive, as if he couldn't help but care deeply. How much love does one need to give without any regrets?
Cecilia had once loved Dominic, and she'd at least hoped for some reciprocation, given that he had at least pretended to care. But no one could be as foolishly devoted as Dashiell.
"I'll try my best to talk some sense into Seraphina. But with her personality, even if I tell her to focus on work, she might not take it seriously."
"It's better than her spending every day drinking and partying."
"She still goes out to clubs often?" Cecilia frowned.
"Pretty much."
"Did she go out tonight as well?" Cecilia couldn't help but ask.
She was really frustrated. After Seraphina left the party, she had grudgingly agreed to leave with Dashiell, but once they were outside, they had gone their separate ways. It was like walking alone.
"Is she not back yet?" Cecilia's irritation was palpable.
"Not yet… Actually, it seems she has returned." Dashiell paused, adding, "I just heard the door."
"Alright, I'll talk to her tomorrow. You should get some rest."
"Thank you," Dashiell said politely, his tone courteous.
"No problem. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
As Dashiell hung up, he didn't get up to check on Seraphina. Given his current disability, getting in and out of bed was a challenge. Besides, Seraphina's late returns had become a norm.
He even turned off the lights and lay down, eyes closed, embracing the quiet of the room.
Then, the door suddenly burst open.
In the dark, he felt a figure collapse onto his bed.
It was a full-on tackle.
The weight landed directly on Dashiell.
He winced, startled. Along with the sudden pain, he was hit by a strong smell of alcohol.
He thought, 'So, Seraphina is drunk tonight?
'It makes sense. There is no other reason she would barge into my room like this.'
