Chapter 604 Exposing Alaric (4)
Cecilia watched Alaric, quietly taking in every word he said.
"Before I was even born, my dad had already planned out my life in Serenovia City with the Whitaker family. The Whitakers aren't related to the old royal family, but they got a lot of support from them years ago, which brought them a lot of prestige. They've been loyal to the royals ever since. When the royal family fell, the Whitakers were the only ones who tried to help, but it was too late. To survive, they had to stay quiet. But because of that connection, when my dad found Caspian, he agreed to help right away. When Arabella found out she was pregnant, my mom was expecting me too. When Arabella gave birth, they announced she had twins. I'm actually half a month younger than Jasper, but since they made the announcement early, no one suspected anything. They say..." Alaric's voice caught a bit.
Cecilia could sense Alaric's emotions were all over the place.
But he kept his voice steady.
Alaric went on, "When I was born, my mom didn't even get to see me before I was taken away."
Cecilia could now picture how heartbreaking that must have been.
"I grew up in the Whitaker Mansion until I was three before I saw my parents. When I did, I just hid. I didn't feel anything for them. When they came near me, I'd cry my eyes out. They say you don't remember anything before you're three, but that meeting with my real parents stuck with me. I saw my mom crying, and my dad's eyes were red. They must have been really sad," Alaric said, chuckling a bit.
It seemed like he was trying to cover up his sadness.
Cecilia squatted down and held Alaric's trembling hand.
But Alaric shook his head, like he was saying it was all in the past now.
He continued, "The day after I met my real parents, I was sent to a deserted island. This place, actually. It’s all developed now, but back then, it was full of wild beasts. From the age of three, I had to survive here on my own. Francis is the heir to the Whitaker Royal Family, and he needed someone strong to protect him from danger."
Cecilia's heart ached hearing this.
"The people who came here besides me were Cassius and Dashiell. Cassius came the year after I did. He wasn't a healthy kid, especially since Hugo had him later in life, so he was weaker than other kids. But Hugo didn't want me to be lonely, so he sent Cassius over the next year. Cassius was only 4, and he'd been really sheltered because of his health. When he saw me kill a python with my bare hands and eat it on his first day here, he fainted. You might not believe it, but for a long time, Cassius would faint just looking at me. That memory is still vivid," Alaric even laughed a bit as he spoke. It was clear Alaric was trying to lighten the mood with a joke, but Cecilia couldn't even crack a smile.
How terrifying must young Alaric have been to make Cassius faint just by looking at him?
Thinking about it, Cecilia tightened her grip on Alaric's hand.
Alaric went on, "Dashiell was three years younger than us, and he came later because Aunt Magnolia had to secure her position first. To live legitimately in the Yakurosean Empire, Aunt Magnolia married an older man. I don't know much about him, just that he was much older. A few years after they got married, he died, and Aunt Magnolia inherited a fortune and came back to Serenovia City with Dashiell. She chose Serenovia City because of me. At that time, I was the only one from the Whitaker Royal Family in Serenovia City. Hugo was in Astralton City, and Aunt Magnolia was worried about me, so she followed. She ended up marrying Atticus and staying in Serenovia City. So when Aunt Magnolia brought Dashiell over after everything had settled, Dashiell was already 8. By then, Cassius and I were already pros at surviving on this deserted island."
Cecilia nodded quietly.
She remembered Dashiell disappearing every now and then. Seraphina often said Dashiell used Atticus's money to travel, which always made young Seraphina mad. Cecilia never questioned it.
"Cassius, Dashiell, and I all went through tough training. Because of my special status, my training was even more intense. Luckily, I made it through all these years, and I think my training results are the most impressive," Alaric said with a hint of pride.
Cecilia was speechless.
Even now, Alaric wanted to show off.
"So Pierce was never a match for me," Alaric said bluntly.
Cecilia's eyes narrowed.
Finally, Alaric mentioned what happened last night.
Alaric poured Cecilia a cup of coffee, and as she took a sip, she enjoyed its rich aroma.
Alaric continued, "When Pierce showed up by your side, I got suspicious and had Cassius investigate him secretly. Noble families can easily hide someone's identity, but Pierce's background seemed too ordinary, which made me even more suspicious. There are no eternal secrets in this world. When Pierce died, didn't he mention that there were people from Shadow Shield Security infiltrating the Phantom Sentinel Agency? Through Shadow Shield Security, I confirmed Pierce's true identity."
"Really?" Cecilia still felt upset about everything that happened last night.
"I didn't tell you because I had to put on a show for the noble family," Alaric said bluntly. "Since I was born, my life has been about one mission: to support Francis and restore the Whitaker Royal Family to its former glory. I carry the anger of many who were once part of the Whitaker Royal Family. Before I met you, I thought I was just a tool to achieve my goals, willing to do whatever it took."
Cecilia looked at Alaric, wanting to say something, but he smiled and said, "Of course, that's not the case anymore," clearly trying to comfort her.
