Chapter 138 Alaric and Cecilia, Stunning the Audience
"You like it, and that's all that matters," Alaric said, his smile lighting up the room.
It was the genuine smile of a boy in love, thrilled to get approval from the girl he adored—pure and sincere.
Cecilia thought that if it weren't for Alaric's frequent appearances in the news with different women, she might almost believe he truly liked her, and only her.
She walked over to Alaric calmly.
Before Cecilia could fully admire her dress, she heard the server's exaggerated praise, "Oh my God, it's stunning. Mr. Whitaker and Mrs. Whitaker are a match made in heaven. I can't believe my eyes, it's just too beautiful. You must be the most attractive couple in the world."
Cecilia felt a bit embarrassed.
She pondered whether the popularity of such expensive dresses stemmed from the exceptional sales skills of the staff.
She looked at herself in the full-length mirror.
She had chosen a silver-gray, tight-fitting, long-tailed evening gown that exuded elegance.
She hadn't intended to match with Alaric, but she had been very fond of gray lately, so she unconsciously chose this color.
At this moment, looking at herself in the mirror, she felt a bit calculating.
Rebecca probably wished she could kill Cecilia.
"I like it a lot," Alaric suddenly said.
Cecilia had no idea if he was talking about his suit, her dress, or her.
For some reason, Cecilia's face started to blush.
Cecilia followed the staff to the makeup room.
Alaric, Cassius, and Jasper waited outside.
6:30 PM.
Cecilia and Rebecca finished their makeup.
The group left the dress area and got into the car to head to the banquet.
Cecilia, Alaric, and Cassius were in one car.
Augustus was driving.
From the moment they left the dress area, Alaric held Cecilia's hand and didn't let go, even in the car.
Cecilia felt her palm sweating. But Alaric held her hand tightly, making it impossible for her to break free.
Cassius observed their closeness in the rearview mirror and contemplated whether he should pursue a relationship as well. Their connection made him feel he had never been in love.
The car arrived at the destination.
Augustus got out to open the door for Alaric.
Alaric got out first, then helped Cecilia out.
Countless reporters took photos at the entrance.
Cecilia and Alaric didn't stop, walking straight inside.
Cassius followed behind.
Then Jasper and Rebecca arrived.
As Rebecca got out of the car, she said, "Jasper, I hope we can keep our distance in the future."
Jasper's face changed slightly.
Rebecca added, "We've already broken up."
"If we've broken up, why did you come to find me today?" Jasper's tone was heavy.
Rebecca replied, "You know I'm trying to get close to Alaric."
Jasper looked at her coldly.
"Dating you was part of that. But now, I realize that dating you doesn't provoke Alaric; it just gives other women a chance to take advantage. So I chose to break up with you. To avoid unnecessary trouble, I hope you can get out after I go inside." With that, Rebecca got out of the car with a stern face.
As she opened the door, Jasper said clearly, "Alaric will never like you."
Rebecca's face turned livid.
Jasper continued, "Alaric has liked Cecilia for many years."
"I don't believe you!" Rebecca turned and said harshly to Jasper, "Do you think saying that will make me give up on Alaric and get back with you? Dream on!"
With that, she slammed the car door shut.
Jasper just watched Rebecca's back.
After all these years, he was actually tired too.
Inside the banquet hall.
The moment Alaric and Cecilia appeared, the whole room was in an uproar.
All eyes were immediately on them.
This was their first public appearance together since their wedding, and their high-profile entrance surprised everyone.
Alaric's high-profile appearances were not surprising; he always made sure he was seen, sometimes even creating scandals to stay in the public eye.
But Cecilia was different.
Cecilia had avoided attending banquets for a long time.
Her first charity banquet was to auction a sapphire for her mother, and her next public appearance was at her wedding, which was impossible to keep low-key.
So why this time?
Was it to accompany Alaric?
Their looks could outshine everyone at the event.
They could make admirers love them and make the jealous hate them to the core, like Dominic.
He was standing in the hall, mingling with the elite, but the moment he noticed the commotion, he saw Alaric and Cecilia's stunning entrance. Ignoring their presence felt like self-deception.
He tried to look away and continue socializing calmly.
Alaric and Cecilia, under everyone's gaze, showed no signs of panic. They went straight to Theodore.
Theodore was chatting enthusiastically with Atticus. Seeing his daughter and son-in-law, he smiled broadly. "Cecilia and Alaric are here."
Cecilia was supposed to come with Theodore, but Alaric was here and she didn't want to argue with Alaric, so she called Theodore to meet at the banquet.
She greeted Theodore first thing she arrived.
"Dad, Uncle Atticus," She obediently greeted them, while Alaric followed her politely.
Cecilia felt a bit uncomfortable.
She thought about how they were enemies in their past lives.
Who could have predicted they would end up married?
"Cecilia, you're such a considerate and well-mannered girl," Atticus said with a smile. "If only Seraphina were half as sensible as you."
Seraphina was indeed troublesome.
Cecilia replied, "Mr. Everhart, don't worry too much. She'll come around eventually. She just hasn't settled down yet."
"I hope so," Atticus said helplessly, not holding out much hope.
"By the way, where's Seraphina?" Cecilia looked around.
It was Seraphina's family's event tonight. She wouldn't skip it!
