Chapter 797 Peaceful Coexistence
In the room, because of what Cecilia said, Alaric stood there, seemingly in a daze.
He was wondering if he was hallucinating or if he had misunderstood.
Did Cecilia mean they could sleep in the same bed?
He knew Cecilia's compromise wasn't sincere.
Cecilia was still repulsed by him.
He never expected Cecilia would allow him to share her bed.
He had prepared himself for the possibility that they might sleep in separate rooms for a long, long time.
His throat moved.
The uncontrollable excitement made him unable to speak for a long while. He said, "I'm going to take a shower."
He was just afraid that he might have a smell.
He hadn't felt like showering during the past two days in the hospital.
Even though he hadn't really sweated.
"Okay," Cecilia responded.
So he hadn't misunderstood.
Cecilia agreed to sleep with him.
Alaric suppressed his emotions and went to the bathroom to shower.
Cecilia looked in the direction of the bathroom.
Listening to the sound of running water inside.
In the past, when Cecilia and Alaric were together, the sound of water would make her heart race, her face flush, and she would even be full of anticipation.
Now, things were different.
She closed her eyes.
She was just fulfilling her duty as a mistress.
Alaric showered quickly.
After he finished, he returned to the room and slowly lay down beside Cecilia.
Lying down, he didn't dare to make any sudden moves.
He was just afraid of making Cecilia uncomfortable.
He slept a bit far away.
From a distance, he watched Cecilia sleep with her eyes closed.
Cecilia's face had become much thinner.
He really wanted to help her regain all the weight she had lost.
He reached out, his hand involuntarily moving towards her cheek, but he pulled back just before touching her.
He couldn't overstep his bounds.
He had to take it slow.
Alaric forced himself to turn over, his back facing Cecilia.
Cecilia had been facing Alaric while sleeping.
Feeling Alaric turn over, she opened her eyes and looked at his back.
Once upon a time, they would never have been so far apart on the same bed.
Cecilia woke up.
It was already dark.
During those days in the hospital, she had been in a daze, waking up and falling asleep repeatedly, but she never really slept well. Lying back in her familiar big bed, she slept deeply.
She didn't know what time it was, only that she felt a bit hungry.
Since she had chosen to compromise, there was no need to continue to mistreat her body.
It wasn't worth it.
She prepared to get up, and at that moment, she realized she was being held.
She had slept so deeply that she didn't know when Alaric had moved closer and when he had held her in his arms.
His hand was resting on her abdomen.
And he seemed to still be asleep.
His breathing was even and a bit heavy.
Alaric rarely slept so deeply. When they used to sleep together, he would wake up at the slightest movement.
Now, he was still asleep.
Had he not slept well in the hospital?
She was like that.
She thought he might be the same.
No matter how good the hospital was, it never felt secure.
But now she was hungry.
She had to get up to eat, so she pushed Alaric's arm away and prepared to get up.
As soon as Cecilia moved.
Alaric seemed to wake up.
In that second, he instinctively held Cecilia tighter.
As if he was afraid of losing her.
Cecilia felt uncomfortable being held so tightly by Alaric.
She let out a muffled groan.
That sound seemed to wake Alaric completely.
He quickly let go of Cecilia, "Are you uncomfortable?"
His voice was urgent, still tinged with undisguised fear.
"No, I'm just a bit hungry and wanted to get up to eat. I didn't mean to wake you," Cecilia said calmly.
Alaric seemed to calm down after seeing Cecilia clearly.
He got up from the bed and said, "I'll help you get up."
Cecilia didn't refuse.
Actually, at over five months pregnant, she wasn't yet at the point where she couldn't take care of herself.
But Alaric was the benefactor.
Whatever he wanted to do, she would let him do.
Alaric helped Cecilia out of bed, then helped her to the bathroom, and assisted her with washing up.
After they had both cleaned up, they went downstairs together.
Downstairs, George had been waiting for them.
It was already 8 PM.
George was actually getting a bit impatient.
He had wanted to go upstairs to call them several times but held back. Finally, he saw them coming down.
He quickly approached, "Mr. Whitaker and Ms. Lockhart, would you like to eat?"
"Yes," Alaric nodded.
"I'll prepare it right away, please wait a moment."
George happily went to the kitchen.
Soon, a large table of food was placed in front of them.
It was clearly prepared in advance.
The dishes were very sumptuous.
Most of them were Cecilia's favorites.
Sometimes, Cecilia was really grateful to George.
She picked up her utensils and started eating quietly.
Alaric, however, didn't eat.
"Aren't you eating?" Cecilia asked him.
"The doctor said I can only have liquid food for now," Alaric replied.
Cecilia remembered that his tongue had been bitten by her.
She had used a lot of force at the time.
She had really lost control then.
Thinking back, she still felt a bit scared.
What if she had really bitten off Alaric's tongue?
She guessed the Lockhart family would have been completely wiped out.
She said, "Is it serious?"
"It's okay," Alaric said indifferently, "It'll be fine in a few days."
"Can I see it?" Cecilia asked.
Alaric was a bit surprised.
He hadn't expected Cecilia to show concern for him.
He opened his mouth and stuck out his tongue.
Seeing the wound on his tongue, Cecilia was still a bit shocked.
Such a large wound, and on the tongue.
She said, "Why didn't you push me away at the time?"
Alaric retracted his tongue and said, "I wanted to let you vent."
"It won't happen again," Cecilia said.
Alaric looked at her.
"It won't happen again," she repeated.
"Okay," Alaric nodded.
Actually.
He didn't mind.
He would rather she vent her emotions.
He didn't want her to bottle everything up.
Just like now.
But he didn't dare to say it.
Because he was too afraid of her being too extreme, too afraid of losing her.
As long as Cecilia didn't leave him.
Anything was fine.
Cecilia and Alaric finally had a peaceful meal together.
Even though Alaric only had some oatmeal.
After dinner.
Cecilia went for a walk in the backyard.
Alaric accompanied her.
They didn't talk much, in fact, they hardly spoke at all, just quietly keeping each other company.
After the walk.
Cecilia returned to the living room to watch some TV.
She watched entertainment shows.
Alaric watched with her.
Occasionally, Cecilia would laugh, and Alaric would laugh along.
George was cleaning the living room, and seeing the scene in the living room, he couldn't help but sigh.
If nothing unexpected had happened, this would have been the life Alaric most longed for and cherished.
