Chapter 685 Cruelty (7) Cooperation Achieved

Alaric said, "Once the Monroe family knows about our cooperation, they'll realize your animosity towards them. The Monroe family will definitely choose to act first and attack you. You just need to play along, let them think they've succeeded, and then counterattack!"

"Easier said than done!" Gideon wasn't as optimistic. He said coldly, "Tell me what you want them to do!"

Alaric explained the scheme he had devised for the Monroe family to Gideon.

"What do I get out of this?" Gideon sneered. "I could end up being framed by the Monroe family! Alaric, are you my subordinate or Tomas's?"

"Mr. Hotchner, if you think you could be framed, then the Monroe family will also believe in the success of this scheme and follow the steps I've planned. They'll fall into our trap."

"Stop being so mysterious. Just tell me what I need to do," Gideon said impatiently.

"It's simple. You follow the Monroe family's plan and escape during the banquet. I'll chase after you to assassinate you. During the assassination, you fake your death. This way, the Monroe family will think you're dead and let their guard down. Then you can secretly defeat them," Alaric explained.

Gideon frowned, seemingly contemplating the feasibility of the plan.

Alaric didn't rush him and waited for his decision.

"How can I trust you? You're not on the Monroe family's side," Gideon said, clearly skeptical of Alaric.

"Cecilia is imprisoned by you. I wouldn't dare betray you," Alaric said firmly.

"It's just Cecilia. Would you really go to such lengths for her?" Gideon was still doubtful.

"My feelings for Cecilia can be vouched for by everyone."

"Maybe it's all just an act for everyone to see," Gideon sneered.

"Mr. Hotchner, a successful person should make their own decisions. No matter how much I say, you'll still doubt me. I won't explain further, but this is the best plan I can come up with within my capabilities. Whether to proceed or not is up to you."

"Now you make it sound so good. You've already exposed my relationship with the Monroe family. Do I have any other choice?" Gideon said coldly.

Alaric remained silent, which was a tacit agreement.

"I warn you, Alaric, if you dare do anything against me, I'll make Cecilia suffer terribly, and I'll make sure your unborn child dies too!" Gideon threatened harshly.

Alaric was tense.

He respectfully said, "I wouldn't dare risk Cecilia and my child's lives!"

"Good!" Gideon agreed.

He was more decisive than the Monroe family.

The premise was that Gideon had no choice.

If he didn't act now, the Monroe family would. He was forced into this by Alaric.

He would remember this and make Alaric pay afterward.

"I have a question," Gideon raised a detail about the plan.

"Mr. Hotchner, go ahead."

"How can you guarantee that you'll be the one chasing after me?" Gideon asked.

If Alaric wasn't particularly difficult to deal with, Gideon wouldn't have pinpointed the issue so accurately. He wasn't an ordinary person.

"The Monroe family needs someone to take the blame," Alaric said bluntly.

Gideon's eyes flickered.

He hadn't expected Alaric to think so far ahead.

"If there's no evidence of you assassinating Tomas and you suddenly die, the Monroe family will find a scapegoat to shift the blame. And that person will be me."

Gideon nodded.

Indeed, Alaric was the most suitable to take the blame.

When he first approached Alaric, it was to have him do such things.

Gideon couldn't help but reassess Alaric, realizing he had underestimated him.

He had only known Alaric was capable, but now he saw how meticulous he could be.

Alaric remained calm, allowing Gideon to scrutinize him, appearing very loyal.

"Let's proceed as you said," Gideon withdrew his gaze.

He could cooperate with Alaric, but he wouldn't let himself be framed by him.

He had his own plans and arrangements.

"Yes," Alaric didn't show any joy at Gideon's agreement. He said, "Once the Monroe family makes any move, I'll inform you in advance, Mr. Hotchner."

"Alaric, I'm entrusting my life and the fate of my family to you. You better not play me! You can't afford the consequences!"

"I wouldn't dare!" Alaric said with utmost respect.

"You can go now."

"Yes." As Alaric was about to leave, he said, "Mr. Hotchner, please take good care of Cecilia."

Gideon nodded slightly.

Alaric said no more and left the Hotchner Mansion.

Back in the car, Alaric leaned against the back seat, looking out at the streets of Astralton City.

His mind was filled with Cecilia's cold demeanor towards him today.

How much restraint did Cecilia need to face him so calmly?

How much restraint did Cecilia need to believe in him?

Alaric's throat moved slightly.

He saw an incoming call and answered, "Cassius."

"Dashiell just called me. Did you ask him to come to Astralton City?" Cassius was a bit surprised.

Usually, Dashiell wouldn't be involved.

Alaric still wanted the Whitaker family members to live longer.

For instance, if he were to die, at least Dashiell would be there for Francis.

Sometimes, thinking about these things made Cassius feel sad.

Alaric had sacrificed too much for the Whitaker family.

If it weren't for Cecilia's appearance.

He didn't know if Alaric had ever really considered himself!

"I'll explain when I get back."

"Alright."

Alaric hung up.

He hadn't wanted Dashiell to get involved, but now he had no choice but to have him save Cecilia.

He couldn't really entrust Cecilia's life to Gideon.

He had to simultaneously rescue Cecilia from the Hotchner Mansion.

This plan was huge.

One wrong step, and it would all be over.

But he had no choice.

Because this was the only path to success.

The Hotchner Mansion.

Cecilia turned to see Gideon walking into her courtyard.

She was sitting in the small yard, basking in the sun.

Gideon was relatively kind to her, at least providing a relatively comfortable environment.

Although, without Gideon's permission, she could only move within this courtyard.

Cecilia watched Gideon without showing any emotion.

Gideon smiled faintly, "I must say, I admire you."

Cecilia also smiled faintly.

She said, "No need for admiration. If you were in my position, you'd choose the same way."
