Chapter 603 Exposing Alaric (3)

"Francis, you've had your fun all afternoon. Time to head back to the study and get to work," Alaric said.

Francis pouted at this. Clearly, Alaric didn't want him to argue.

Despite being tall, handsome, and having a great demeanor, Francis obediently left without a fuss when Alaric told him to.

Cecilia watched him go until he was out of sight, then turned to Alaric and asked, "Aren't you guys having dinner?"

"We just finished," Alaric replied.

"Where did you eat?" Cecilia asked, frowning.

"We had a BBQ while fishing," he said.

Cecilia felt a bit miffed that Alaric hadn’t invited her.

Noticing her displeasure, Alaric smiled faintly but didn’t offer much of an explanation. She'd find out everything soon enough anyway.

After Cecilia finished her dinner, Alaric took her hand, and they strolled through the island's forest garden.

She always wanted to ask if this whole artificial island belonged to Francis.

What did Francis do to be so rich?

And why wasn't his name on the list of the richest people in the Yakurosean Empire?

Cecilia had a lot of questions but decided to keep them to herself.

Alaric led her into a cozy lounge. In the cold weather, the fireplace inside instantly warmed them up, making the room feel as warm as Alaric's presence.

They sat on a soft sofa, and Alaric started brewing some fine coffee for Cecilia. He began to speak, "I'm not the biological son of the Whitaker family. I was just fostered."

Cecilia's heart raced.

As everything was about to be revealed, she inexplicably started to feel nervous.

"My true identity is that I am a descendant of the Royal Family of Whitaker from the Yakurosean Empire. You should know that the Royal Family of Whitaker has no relation to the Whitaker family of Serenovia City. The Royal Family of Whitaker ruled the Yakurosean Empire a hundred years ago, but because the two major noble families that supported the Royal Family of Whitaker betrayed them, they united and killed all the members of the Royal Family of Whitaker," Alaric said calmly, as if he were recounting someone else's story.

He continued, "My great-grandfather was the last head of the Royal Family of Whitaker. At that time, the Royal Family of Whitaker had ruled the Yakurosean Empire for over a hundred years. People had gotten used to a life of ease. So when the two major noble families had thoughts of rebellion and really united, the Royal Family of Whitaker became vulnerable. It didn't take much effort for my great-grandfather to be killed by the two major noble families. It didn't even cause much of a stir. Even though everyone knew the Royal Family of Whitaker was destroyed because of the two major noble families, no one felt sorry for the Royal Family of Whitaker. Too many years of incompetence had made the public indifferent to the Royal Family of Whitaker. So, the noble families quickly replaced the Royal Family of Whitaker, forming the Monroe family and the Hotchner family to jointly rule the Yakurosean Empire."

Cecilia watched Alaric as he quietly brewed coffee, the dim light from the fireplace illuminating his profile and giving it a particularly gentle glow.

She started to question whether Alaric was truly indifferent to the downfall of the Whitaker family.

Alaric continued, "Originally, it's survival of the fittest. Throughout history, deposed rulers have been countless. Change is inevitable. After my great-grandfather died, my grandfather actually thought about leaving the Yakurosean Empire. However, the noble families were merciless. After murdering my great-grandfather, they set out to eliminate everyone in the Whitaker royal family. They likely felt their hold on power was illegitimate and wanted to completely erase us from existence.""Luckily, even though the Whitaker royal family had fallen, they had ruled for a long time and had their loyal supporters. The Shadow Shield Security that Pierce mentioned last night is one such group. They're fiercely loyal and only take orders from the head of the Whitaker royal family. After my great-grandfather died, my grandfather became the head. So, with the protection of Shadow Shield Security, my grandfather managed to escape the noble families' pursuit. But because of this, Shadow Shield Security took heavy losses, and not many of them were left. But there's one person you should know," Alaric said, looking at Cecilia.

Cecilia's heart skipped a beat, and she asked, "Cassius?"

Alaric chuckled, "Cassius is my age. Back then, he wasn't even born."

Even now, he was teasing her.

She had instinctively thought the person next to Alaric was Cassius, and Dashiell was his cousin too.

"Hugo," Alaric said.

Cecilia's eyes widened.

No wonder Hugo had such a strong background; he was connected to the former Whitaker royal family.

Alaric continued, "While fleeing and being hunted, my grandfather developed a thirst for revenge. Once he found some safety, he started plotting his retribution. But seeking revenge was harder than he thought. In the end, he failed and lost his life to the two major noble families. Luckily, my grandfather had a son and a daughter, so our lineage wasn't wiped out. My father and Aunt Magnolia were protected by Shadow Shield Security as they grew up. Through all this, they realized one important truth."

"What?" Cecilia asked.

Alaric replied, "To get revenge, they needed to rebuild their own power! So, my father, Aunt Magnolia, Shadow Shield Security, and some loyalists all went back to different regions of the Yakurosean Empire to develop independently and wait for the right moment to strike back."

Cecilia nodded, understanding his words.

That was indeed the best way to seek revenge.

Alaric continued, "My father and Aunt Magnolia faked their deaths to make the two major noble families believe that the Royal Family of Whitaker had no descendants left. This made the noble families ease up on their pursuit of the Whitaker family's forces. My father and Aunt Magnolia then lived peacefully for twenty years. Twenty years later, my brother Francis and I were born. After birth, Francis became the heir to the Royal Family of Whitaker. To put it bluntly, our generation was meant to reclaim the lost ruling position of the Royal Family of Whitaker."

Hearing this, Cecilia pressed her lips tightly together.

She finally understood why Alaric, in her previous life, could never be defeated.

It turned out he was genuinely formidable, but she had always underestimated him.

Everyone in the Yakurosean Empire had underestimated him.

Alaric continued, "Because it was decided that our generation would directly confront the noble families, Francis and I were deliberately trained from a young age. In fact, my father and Aunt Magnolia underwent the same training, but at that time, the priority was to quietly build our strength, convincing the noble families that the Whitaker royal family had no surviving descendants."
