Chapter 211 Seraphina, Use Your Happiness to Make Amends
Operating Room.
Dashiell was wheeled out by the medical staff, looking deathly pale but conscious.
Magnolia rushed over, kneeling beside him. "Dashiell, how are you? Are you in pain?"
Dashiell forced a smile, clearly struggling.
Seraphina saw his smile and teared up, wondering if he'd still smile knowing his right leg was crippled.
Everyone followed Dashiell to the VIP ward. The staff transferred him to the bed, hooked him up to monitors, and started an IV before leaving.
No one else left. They all stayed with Dashiell.
Dashiell, trying to be strong, said, "I'm fine, just a bit weak. You all should go home."
Magnolia's tears fell uncontrollably. Seraphina's eyes reddened again. She wasn't usually a crier, but tonight was different.
"Mom, I'm really okay," Dashiell reassured Magnolia, showing maturity that was heart-wrenching.
"Dashiell, you know..." Magnolia started but couldn't finish. She couldn't keep it from him; he'd find out eventually. Her heart ached as she watched him comfort them without knowing the truth.
"What's wrong?" Dashiell sensed something was off.
Magnolia burst into tears.
"Mom," Dashiell said, realizing he wasn't so lucky in the accident.
"Dashiell," Magnolia choked, "No matter what, I'll always be here for you."
"What happened to me?" Dashiell tried to stay calm. "What's wrong with my body?"
Magnolia couldn't speak. Dashiell waited, then started examining himself. He guessed he was disabled. Car accidents usually led to disability or disfigurement. His face was fine, so it had to be his leg.
He tried moving his legs. Since waking up, he thought the numbness was from anesthesia. But now, his smile faded, and his eyes reddened, though he tried to hide it.
Seraphina couldn't bear seeing him in pain, suppressing it. Her tears kept falling. Despite her feelings, she felt guilty for what he endured.
"Are my legs gone?" Dashiell asked.
Magnolia cried harder, almost collapsing.
"Are both my legs gone?" he asked again.
Magnolia didn't answer.
She was too distraught to speak.
Dashiell pulled out his IV, trying to touch his legs.
"Dashiell, don't!" Magnolia hugged him, blurting out, "Both legs are still there. The doctor said your right leg might lose sensation, but with rehab, you can recover."
Dashiell's eyes filled with unshed tears.
Magnolia's heart ached. "It's okay, Dashiell. As long as you're alive, that's what matters."
Dashiell forced himself to accept the harsh reality.
Cecilia was moved. She thought she'd be numb after experiencing it once, but Dashiell was so good it hurt to see him in pain.
A nurse reattached Dashiell's IV.
In about ten minutes, Dashiell calmed down, masking his pain. He had endured so much in his life that no one saw his inner turmoil.
Cecilia glanced at Seraphina, hoping she'd cherish Dashiell.
"Dashiell," Seraphina called, walking to his bedside.
Dashiell looked at her. She thought even hatred in his eyes would be better, but his eyes were emotionless.
"I'm sorry," Seraphina said. She was willful but owned up when she was wrong. Tonight's incident was her fault, and she apologized to the man she disliked the most.
She'd never target him and Magnolia again. She accepted their presence in her home.
"Seraphina," Dashiell called her.
Seraphina's eyes shimmered with tears. Sebastian held her shoulder, giving her strength. He knew from the police that Dashiell's accident was related to Seraphina.
"Will you marry me now?" Dashiell's words shocked everyone.
Seraphina thought she misheard, staring at Dashiell in disbelief.
"Marry me," Dashiell repeated firmly.
"No!" Seraphina shouted. "No way, I will never marry you!"
Dashiell just looked at her. Despite her guilt, she wouldn't commit to marrying him.
But Dashiell decided to push. "Shouldn't your happiness compensate for my lost leg?"
His words made Seraphina truly hate him. All her pity, guilt, and pain for him vanished. In the end, all she felt was hatred.
