Chapter 378 Sad Farewell

Alaric just stood there, soaking in Cecilia's words, catching that little flicker of sadness on her face.

She was all torn up about what the future held for them.

"Hey, I don't mean to get all sappy, but this past week with you has been a blast. I've never felt so chill. We might not be rolling in dough, but finding this kind of peace is like hitting the jackpot," Cecilia said, her voice barely above a whisper. "It just sucks that it's over so soon."

She really didn't want to say goodbye.

Hearing this, Alaric pulled her close, wrapping her up in his arms.

He whispered in her ear, like he was making a vow, "We won't drift apart."

Cecilia bit her lip, trying to hold it together.

"What I'm doing now is to bring us closer," Alaric said, holding her tight. "I swear."

Even with all the uncertainty, Cecilia wanted to believe in him.

They clung to each other, not wanting to let go.

When the clock hit midnight, Alaric grabbed Cecilia's bags and held her hand, leading her to the airport.

Augustus was already waiting at the gate of their community.

They hopped in a taxi and headed to the airport together.

As they drove through the unfamiliar streets of Harborvale, the sadness of saying goodbye hit even harder.

At the airport, Alaric stuck with Cecilia while she got her boarding pass.

When it was time for the security check, he handed it to her.

Cecilia took it without a word.

They just stared at each other.

Then Cecilia turned and walked away with Augustus, not saying a thing.

She was scared that if she spoke, she'd lose it and start crying.

She walked towards the first-class gate, and just before she went in, she looked back.

She saw Alaric standing there, watching her leave.

He stood out, tall and alone, among the crowd at the airport.

She felt a pang of loneliness, like she was leaving him behind.

Her throat tightened.

She didn't know why, but it felt like she'd left him behind before.

It was a weird feeling, like a mix of dream and reality.

She suddenly waved at him.

Alaric gave a small smile and waved back.

"Alaric, I'll be waiting for you in Serenovia City," Cecilia shouted.

"Okay," Alaric replied.

Cecilia's vision blurred with tears.

She finally got why Alaric always left early in the morning, why he always left when she was still asleep—because saying goodbye was just too damn hard.

She bit her lip and forced herself to keep walking.

She tried to get a grip on her emotions.

It wasn't like they were never gonna see each other again, it was just a short goodbye, but it still felt unbearable.

She'd completely forgotten about her feelings for Dominic from her past life.

All she remembered was that she had loved him before.

But now, she couldn't remember what that love felt like.

She couldn't remember if she'd ever felt this torn up about leaving Dominic.

Now, all she could think about was Alaric.

She didn't know if this was what forgetting felt like.

It was like she'd dug Dominic out of her heart and let Alaric move in, filling it up completely, leaving no room for anyone else.

Glancing at her phone, Cecilia saw a message pop up. She tapped it open to hear Alaric's deep, magnetic voice saying, "Honey, I love you."

Augustus, walking beside her, naturally heard the message too.

Augustus had been Alaric's right-hand man for years and had never heard him talk so softly.

The recent Mr. Whitaker had almost made Augustus forget the bloodthirsty monster he once was in that dark world.

He wasn't sure if this change was good or bad, but he noticed Alaric smiling more and more.

Cecilia hit the voice button and said, "Me too."

The plane flew for 5 hours and landed back in Serenovia City.

Back in familiar territory, Cecilia felt like something was missing.

Cecilia and Augustus walked out of the airport.

As soon as she got into the car, Cecilia grabbed her phone to make a call.

Back in Serenovia City, it was time to get back to work.

The time in Harborvale would probably be a memory she'd cherish forever.

The call connected. "Cecilia."

It was Dashiell's deep, gentle voice.

"Am I bugging you?" Cecilia asked.

"Not really," Dashiell replied. "Seraphina's taking a bath."

"Why aren't you helping her?" Cecilia laughed.

Dashiell blushed.

Cecilia could almost feel it through the phone.

He said, "What do you need?"

Dashiell was clearly dodging the topic.

"Can you hack into the Kingsley Group's finance department for me?" Cecilia asked.

"You wanna know their financial moves?" Dashiell asked.

"I mainly wanna see if they've started funding investments. I'm talking about the Innovation Arc project," Cecilia said.

"I saw on the news that the Kingsley family is all in on building the Innovation Arc." Dashiell thought for a moment and said. "House of Everhart Bank gave them a loan on Thursday. Assuming the funds were secured and there were no delays, they should have begun construction. I'll get you a solid answer later."

"No rush, tomorrow's fine. Get some sleep," Cecilia teased. "Go tuck Seraphina in."

The other side was clearly embarrassed.

"Anyway, I won't keep you. I..." Cecilia hadn't finished speaking when Seraphina's voice came from the other side.

She snatched the phone from Dashiell, asking, "Cecilia, you came back and called Dashiell first? Why didn't you call me?"

Cecilia really didn't see what the big deal was.

She said, "I had something to discuss with Dashiell."

"What did you need him for?" Seraphina asked.

"It's about work," Cecilia said.

"Are you sure? He's a homebody, what can he help you with?" Seraphina's tone was full of disdain.

Cecilia was speechless.

Dashiell was right there, could she be more inconsiderate?

"Seraphina," Cecilia said seriously, "If you've got nothing better to do, you should get to know your husband better."

"Who is my husband?" Seraphina shouted.

She seemed unable to accept the term.

"You misunderstand your husband deeply," Cecilia continued.

"I told you he's not my husband!" Seraphina was angry.

"Trust me, you'll be impressed."

"I don't want to!" Seraphina refused.

"Anyway, put in more effort."

"Cecilia..." Seraphina was at a loss for words.

"Well, I just got off the plane and I'm a bit tired, we'll talk next time." Cecilia hung up the phone, not wanting to delay Seraphina from getting to know Dashiell!

As long as Seraphina was willing to get to know Dashiell, she would fall in love with him.

In this way, given the current development trend, Seraphina's tragedy from the past life should not happen!
