Chapter 662 The Dinner Party (1)
The next day, Seraphina woke up feeling super groggy.
Sebastian's proposal last night had kept her up almost the entire night.
She didn't even know what to think.
It seemed like she was just anxious about how to turn Sebastian down in a month.
Seraphina figured it would be better to tell him upfront that she wasn't planning on getting married anytime soon and that they should talk about it later.
She spent most of the night mulling it over, and when she finally fell asleep, she started dreaming.
She had a bunch of random dreams.
She couldn't remember what they were about, but one thing was clear: when she woke up, the area between her legs was wet.
Alright, she admitted she had dreamed about sex again.
Despite feeling down lately, she didn't know how she still had the mind for such dreams.
She was already in a rush in the morning and had to get up and take a shower to clean herself.
Seraphina delayed for a long time before finally heading out to work.
As she reached the underground parking lot of her apartment complex, she spotted Sebastian's car parked there.
Sebastian was standing next to the car, waiting for her.
Seraphina pursed her lips and walked over. "Why are you here?" she asked.
Sebastian replied, "I came to take you to work."
"I have a driver," Seraphina said, looking around.
Sebastian said, "Don't bother looking. I already sent him away."
"From now on, I'll be responsible for taking you to and from work," he added.
Seraphina frowned.
"It's a boyfriend's duty," Sebastian said naturally, opening the passenger door like a gentleman. "Get in."
Seraphina got in.
The car drove smoothly down the street.
"We're already late," Seraphina said, looking at the time.
She had woken up late today and had been delayed for so long.
Sebastian responded, "It doesn't matter, I'm willing to be late for you."
Seraphina suddenly didn't know what to say.
It seemed like no matter what she said, Sebastian would insist.
She thought that Sebastian wouldn't insist for too long because her work schedule would seriously affect his work.
And Sebastian's pursuit of work ultimately couldn't adapt to her lifestyle.
Seraphina thought this way.
The car soon arrived at Everhart Bank.
When they walked into the lobby together, they unexpectedly ran into Dashiell.
Dashiell always arrived very early, but today, he was actually quite late.
The three of them even got into the elevator together.
Because they were all late, there were no other people in the elevator.
It was really awkward.
Seraphina felt her body tense up.
At that moment, she felt Sebastian's hand naturally fall on her waist, pulling her closer to him.
Seraphina couldn't help but glance at Dashiell.
She saw Dashiell also glance at her, then quickly look away.
It seemed like a natural glance because of the small movement beside him, without any other emotions.
The elevator arrived.
Seraphina and Sebastian's office was on the floor below Dashiell's, so they got off the elevator first.
Dashiell watched them walk away.
The corner of his mouth suddenly curled into a smile.
Seraphina and Sebastian going to work together and being late together—what else could it signify?
However, Dashiell had actually dreamed of having sex with Seraphina last night, which made him get up in the middle of the night to change the sheets, ultimately causing him to oversleep.
Meanwhile, Seraphina was not in good spirits.
She had planned to leave work as soon as it was time.
But she suddenly received a call from Atticus. He said, "There's an industry dinner tonight; you should go in my place.""I'm not going," Seraphina shot back immediately.
She was getting less and less interested in these kinds of events.
Atticus replied, "I wasn't asking for your opinion."
Seraphina snapped, "Are you getting more bossy with me now?"
"Seraphina, I'm old. How can I still go to social events at my age? My blood pressure was through the roof a few days ago, and the doctor said if I drink again, I might have a stroke." Atticus started playing the sympathy card.
"Then let Dashiell go instead," Seraphina said bluntly.
Atticus replied, "Dashiell is definitely going."
Seraphina said, "Then I absolutely won't go!" She definitely didn't want to attend any dinner with Dashiell. It was way too awkward.
Atticus said, "What are you embarrassed about? Dashiell has no feelings for you; don't flatter yourself."
"I..." Seraphina was just mad that Dashiell had no feelings for her, alright!
Atticus remarked, "You know Dashiell's drinking capacity, right? At these industry dinners, especially with State Office officials, not drinking isn't an option. You need to accompany Dashiell and drink for him."
"I'm not your biological daughter; Dashiell is, right? What kind of father makes his own daughter drink for someone else?" Seraphina said, clearly furious.
She felt sick, and it was bad for her health when she drank too much.
"I'm not asking you to get drunk, just help keep an eye on Dashiell." Atticus seemed to know he couldn't persuade Seraphina, so he resorted to bribery, "Didn't you ask me for money to buy a bag last time? If you attend the dinner tonight, I'll buy it for you tomorrow."
"Really?" Seraphina was a bit excited but also a bit skeptical.
Atticus had been managing her money strictly lately, and she hadn't been able to buy many things.
Atticus said, "When have I ever lied to you?"
Seraphina said, "Then you have to keep your word."
Atticus replied, "You have to promise me not to let Dashiell drink too much. He has an important project meeting tomorrow, and I'm worried he won't be in good spirits."
Atticus was willing to abandon her for the sake of profit, wasn't he?
"Fine," Seraphina agreed through gritted teeth.
Then she hung up the phone.
Seraphina called Sebastian. "Don't wait for me after work; there's a dinner tonight. My dad assigned it."
"An industry dinner?" Sebastian replied, seeming to already know.
Seraphina replied, "Yes."
"You're going with Mr. Everhart?" Sebastian asked.
"Going with Dashiell." Seraphina didn't hide it.
Sebastian fell silent.
Seraphina didn't explain anything.
She didn't know how to explain.
"Just be careful not to get too drunk," Sebastian said, sounding as though he didn't care much.
Seraphina replied, "Okay."
Sebastian said, "I'll come pick you up after the dinner."
"We'll see." Seraphina wasn't refusing. She really didn't know when it would end, and she didn't want Sebastian to wait around.
"Okay." With that, Seraphina hung up the phone.
She took a deep breath.
She felt there was no need to overthink it.
At 6 PM, Seraphina was sitting in Dashiell's car.
They both remained silent.
Dashiell was even a bit too distant from her.
Seraphina thought that if he didn't want her to go, he should have told Atticus earlier. Anyway, he was now valued by Atticus, and whatever he said, Atticus would accept!
All the way, Seraphina was thinking to herself.
She was also killing time.
She always felt that being alone with Dashiell was too awkward.
Then they arrived at the destination.
Dashiell and Seraphina, led by the staff, walked into a luxurious private room.
The large private room was filled with many people.
Seraphina thought it looked like she would have to drink a lot tonight!
