Chapter 145 Alaric Saved Cecilia with His Life

What a thrilling night!

Everything went dead silent.

Cecilia stared at the two wrecked cars in front of her. One of them looked way too familiar.

'No, it can't be Alaric,' she thought. 'That's his car, but he wouldn't be driving it. He wouldn't risk his life for me. He doesn't need to go that far.'

Her vision blurred as she looked at the crashed cars, no movement inside. It felt like whoever was in there was already dead.

Her heart ached, a sharp, intense pain. She thought she'd never feel this way again. She had promise that she'd never let herself go through this again.

As she opened her car door, Augustus rushed out, faster than her. He seemed to realize the car belonged to Alaric. He quickly went to the deformed driver's seat, pounding on the door.

Cecilia forced herself to endure the pain, walking step by step. The streetlights weren't very bright, and when the airbags deployed, she couldn't see who was inside. She just saw a lot of blood.

A car sped over and screeched to a halt. Cassius and Dashiell got out. No Alaric.

Cecilia was gripped by a deep sense of panic. Cassius and Dashiell quickly walked to the car, watching Augustus frantically pounding on the door.

"The door's locked!" Augustus shouted.

Cassius ran back to his car, grabbed a hammer, and smashed the window with one blow. Glass shards fell everywhere. Everyone watched nervously as Cassius reached inside to unlock the door. The door popped open.

Cassius yanked it wide, frantically removing the airbags, and dragged a bloodied man out. Cecilia saw his face clearly. It was Alaric.

Her heart ached intensely. She never thought Alaric would sacrifice so much for her. Just a moment ago, she was blaming him for being cold-hearted.

"Mr. Whitaker," Augustus said, visibly shaken. Cassius remained calm, carrying Alaric to his car. Dashiell quickly followed, opening the door. Cassius laid Alaric down, and Dashiell got in. Cassius quickly returned to the driver's seat and sped off.

Cecilia watched as they disappeared. "Augustus!" she called out.

"Mrs. Whitaker, get in the car," Augustus snapped back to reality. They both got in, and Augustus floored the gas pedal, quickly catching up to the car ahead. He drove just as fast as when they were being chased earlier.

Cecilia worried if Alaric was seriously injured. When Cassius dragged him out, he seemed lifeless. "No way, Alaric can't be dead," she thought. "In my previous life, he lived longer than me. He wouldn't die just because I was reborn. He definitely wouldn't!"

The car screeched to a halt at the hospital entrance. A swarm of doctors and nurses were already waiting. As soon as Cassius stopped, they opened the door and swiftly placed Alaric on a stretcher, hooking him up to oxygen and wheeling him away.

Cassius and Dashiell followed closely, with Augustus and Cecilia right behind them, all the way to the emergency room. The doors slammed shut, leaving everyone outside.

Cassius was a wreck, pacing back and forth, stomping his feet. His earlier composure was gone. Dashiell stood nearby, not as visibly agitated but clearly worried. Even Augustus's usually stiff face showed concern. Cecilia was terrified that Alaric might die because of her.

She had been reborn to avenge those who wronged her, not to drag others into her mess. Her eyes tightened with growing hatred for Dominic.

In the hallway, everyone waited anxiously. "Damn it!" Cassius suddenly cursed. "Is he out of his mind?"

Cecilia turned to look at him. Dashiell tried to calm Cassius down. "He'll be fine."

"Is it worth it for a woman, regardless of his well-being?" Cassius couldn't calm down.

"Cassius..."

"Forget it, I'm going for a smoke!" Cassius shook off Dashiell and walked away. Cecilia watched him go, then met Dashiell's gaze. She felt guilty, knowing Cassius was venting his anger at her.

Dashiell walked over slowly. "Cecilia, Sorry about that. Cassius is being rude. Don't mind it."

"Okay." Cecilia nodded. She didn't blame Cassius. If her friend got hurt because of someone else, she'd be angry too.

Dashiell seemed like he wanted to say more, but Augustus suddenly said excitedly, "The surgery light is off."

Cecilia's heart skipped a beat. She was so nervous she could hardly control herself. Dashiell quickly walked to the operating room door, and Cassius, who had just walked away, ran back.

The doctor came out, and everyone looked at him nervously. "The patient is not in any life-threatening condition," he said.

Cecilia felt a huge sense of relief. She had been really scared, and now she felt at ease.

"Is he missing an arm or a leg?" Cassius asked urgently.

"No," the doctor replied. Cecilia bit her lip lightly.

The doctor continued, "It was clear the patient knew how to protect himself during the collision. He's seriously injured, with multiple fractures and external wounds, but none of his vital organs are damaged. The head bleeding is external; no internal bleeding was found. However, to be safe, we recommend observing him in the hospital for a couple of days to rule out the possibility of a concussion, given the severity of the car accident."
