Chapter 9 Trending News, Dominic's Humiliation
The Next Day.
Early in the morning.
Cecilia got a call from Seraphina just as she was waking up.
"Cecilia, did you see today's news?"
She was just about to check.
"Your Dominic and your Alaric are trending!"
"Who said they are mine!" Cecilia was really exasperated with Seraphina.
Seraphina laughed loudly, "Anyway, just check the news. I think it's... quite interesting."
With that, she hung up.
Cecilia didn't really need to look to know what the media would write.
It would probably be some commentary on Alaric and Dominic!
Just like she thought.
Cecilia looked at the trending lists on various websites.
#Charity Gala Donation, Alaric Spends Lavishly and Outshines Everyone#
#Not Worth It for Love? Dominic Unwilling to Spend Money to Marry Cecilia#
#Mr. Whitaker's Extravagance Unabated, $4.5 Million Gem Given Away On the Spot#
For the first time, Alaric was trending not because of his gossip but on legitimate headlines in finance and society, with mixed reviews.
Meanwhile, Dominic was being mocked and criticized. When he saw the news, his face turned completely dark!
The media, which had always sung his praises, turned on him viciously this time. They labeled him stingy, doubted his love for Cecilia, pointed out his flaws, and even claimed the Kingsley family was having financial issues.
The Kingsley family was indeed grappling with financial issues, which was why he was eager to marry into the Lockhart family to secure unconditional funding, but he hadn't expected Alaric to almost ruin his plans.
What pissed him off even more was that as soon as the Kingsley family's stock market opened, it plummeted to its lower limit and trading was suspended!
Dominic had to tell himself to stay calm!
The most important thing now was to marry Cecilia first.
Once he had the Lockhart family under his control, the combined wealth of the Lockhart and Kingsley families would be unstoppable, he could easily crush the Whitaker family. How could Alaric outshine him then?!
Of course, he would also have the capital to step into the noble family circle.
The humiliation he suffered today, he would repay tenfold!
Lockhart family.
Cecilia found the trending news quite interesting.
Seraphina called again, "Did you see it?"
"Yes, I did," Cecilia replied, "Why are you so excited?"
"I'm excited for you!" Seraphina said matter-of-factly, "I used to think you had poor taste, but now I suddenly think you have great taste. You even spotted Alaric's shining points."
She might as well take it as Seraphina complimenting her.
She said, "Alaric and I aren't what you think."
"Then what are you guys?" Seraphina asked with great interest.
"You'll find out in the future."
"Aren't you my bestie? You've changed!" Seraphina accused.
Yes, she had changed; she had become vengeful!
"By the way," Seraphina suddenly remembered something, "Dashiell is back."
"Really?" Cecilia responded.
She had the impression it was around these days. But she didn't quite remember the details.
"He came back quietly last night and scared me. The key is..." Seraphina hesitated and didn't finish.
Cecilia was actually a bit interested.
"Anyway, he's definitely back with bad intentions, probably to fight for the family inheritance!" Seraphina was certain, "There's no way I'm letting him get away."
Cecilia really wanted to tell her.
The one fighting for the inheritance wasn't her half-brother, but... the person she had always loved.
But she felt she needed time to make Seraphina believe it.
"If you don't want Dashiell to take the Everhart family inheritance, then go to the company and take it into your own hands."
Seraphina didn't respond. She really didn't want to go to work.
She stammered, "Isn't Sebastian there? He can support our family!"
Seraphina was as naive as she was in her past life.
Cecilia said, "Anyway, think about my suggestion. That's all. My grandma is calling me."
Indeed, there was an incoming call.
"It's not going to be nice for your grandmother to call you," Seraphina said irritably.
It really wasn't a good thing.
That's why she needed time to deal with these people properly!
Cecilia hung up on Seraphina and answered Ophelia Lockhart's call.
"Grandma..."
"Who were you talking to, not answering my call! Just like your father, no manners!" The voice on the other end was clearly displeased.
Cecilia held the phone and endured it.
Ophelia's patriarchal mindset was particularly strong. She didn't like her and instead doted on Vincent's eldest son, Andrew Lockhart. Over the years, Cecilia had always avoided Ophelia.
But in this new life, she didn't plan to be submissive.
She asked directly, "Is there anything?"
"Come back to the old estate!" With that, the call was abruptly ended.
Cecilia's face darkened.
She put down her phone, quickly washed up, and then went downstairs to leave.
"Cecilia, where are you going without having breakfast?" Genevieve hurriedly called out to her daughter.
"Going to Ophelia's house."
"What are you going there for?" Genevieve was clearly a bit surprised.
Genevieve was genuinely afraid of Ophelia from the bottom of her heart.
Ever since she married into the Lockhart family, she had never received a kind look from her mother-in-law. The reason was that Genevieve came from a humble background, and Ophelia despised her for it. Fortunately, Cecilia's grandfather had a soft spot for Genevieve and agreed to their marriage.
After getting married, Genevieve did everything she could to steer clear of Ophelia.
Now hearing that Cecilia was going back, she was afraid Cecilia would be aggrieved.
"She said she needed to talk to me."
"About what?"
"She didn't specify."
Genevieve naturally wouldn't stop Cecilia from going. She thought for a moment, "I'll go with you."
"Are you worried Ophelia will bully me?"
"When doesn't she bully you?" Genevieve said irritably.
"You going won't help," Cecilia bluntly pointed out.
"At least I won't let her scold you alone." This was Genevieve's biggest way of protecting Cecilia.
Cecilia said, "Let's go."
It would also be good for her mom to see how she would deal with Ophelia!
