Chapter 218 Do you want Dashiell to dig out his heart?

"No." Seraphina hesitated, then coldly said, "I hate your son even more than you!"

"Seraphina, what more do you want from Dashiell?" Magnolia finally got emotional. "You've hit him, scolded him, and teased him since you were kids. He doesn't hold a grudge and still protects and cares for you. What more do you want?"

"If he really cared, he wouldn't force me marry him!" Seraphina shot back.

"How desperate must he have been to do that? Have you thought about that, Seraphina?"

Just as Seraphina was about to argue, Magnolia cut her off. "That scar on Dashiell's forehead, who was it for?"

Seraphina froze.

She remembered when Dashiell was 12, she made him climb a tree to get a kite, hoping he'd fall. He did fall, got a bloody forehead, and needed eight stitches. Now, he never combs his hair up to hide the scar.

"And the dog bite on his hand?" Magnolia pressed.

Seraphina bit her lip.

At 14, she got lost on a school trip and was almost attacked by a wild dog. Dashiell appeared out of nowhere and fought it off, getting badly bitten himself.

"Who did Dashiell leave home and go abroad for, all alone for four years?"

Seraphina didn't want to think about it, but she had to remember.

She made him leave. She told him to study abroad because she wanted to be with Sebastian and avoid conflict.

Everyone knew Dashiell liked her.

At 18, Dashiell left because of one sentence from Seraphina. He had been accepted by a top university at home but chose to go abroad instead.

"Does Dashiell have to dig out his heart for you to see how broken it is?" Magnolia's eyes were red.

"That's Dashiell's problem!" Seraphina stayed indifferent.

She forced herself not to feel sad. Dashiell liking her was his problem. She never asked him to. Why should she marry him just because he was good to her?

Magnolia was so angry at Seraphina's indifference that she trembled.

Atticus, seeing Magnolia's distress and Seraphina's cold tone, exploded in anger. "Seraphina, have I spoiled you too much? Do you not understand gratitude, filial piety, and respect?"

"I became like this because I don't have a mom!" Seraphina shouted.

The conflict between her and Atticus would probably never be resolved.

Atticus's face turned red. His eyes widened, his expression stiff and grim. His body shook violently, and it was clear something was wrong.

"Uncle Atticus." Cecilia rushed over to support him.

Atticus's body was stiff, and he couldn't speak.

Magnolia was scared. "Atticus, what's wrong?"

"Seraphina, call 911, quick!" Cecilia urged.

Seraphina was terrified. She never thought it would go this far. She trembled as she dialed.

Cecilia made a quick decision. "Magnolia, let's take him to the hospital. Be careful not to shake him; it looks like a stroke from high blood pressure! Seraphina, get your dad's private doctor to meet us there."

"Okay," Seraphina replied, shaking.

They quickly got Atticus to the hospital.

He was taken into the emergency room.

Seraphina watched the doors close. Yesterday she sent one in, and today another. Her eyes reddened again. She bit her lip, telling herself she wasn't wrong. Why should her happiness be threatened like this?

In the hallway, Magnolia's soft sobs could be heard. Cecilia comforted her, saying everything would be fine.

An hour passed. The doctor came out.

Magnolia, with tear-filled eyes, asked, "Doctor, how is my husband?"

"Mrs. Everhart, he's out of danger and there are no signs of aftereffects for now. You brought him in just in time; otherwise, it could have been fatal or caused paralysis."

"Thank you," Magnolia said quickly.

"His stroke was due to high blood pressure. He's stable now, but you must keep him calm to avoid serious consequences."

"We will," Magnolia assured.

The doctor gave a few more instructions. Soon, Atticus was wheeled out, looking pale and weak. This was not the strong father Seraphina remembered. She looked away, not wanting to see him like this. Knowing he was okay, she turned and ran off.

Cecilia watched her go, deciding to let her be. She knew Seraphina was probably going to find Sebastian. But Seraphina didn't know that Atticus and Magnolia had already talked to Sebastian last night. Relying on him was no longer an option.

Cecilia stayed with Magnolia, pushing Atticus to his room. She also wanted to talk to Dashiell alone. Atticus's room was next to Dashiell's. After making sure Atticus was stable, Cecilia walked into the next room.

She paused. Inside were Dashiell, Alaric, and Cassius. Her appearance caught their attention. Cecilia bit her lip, feeling like she was intruding and had stumbled upon a secret.
