Chapter 403 Miscarriage

Dashiell plopped himself in the driver's seat and shot straight, "Mom, can you toss the wheelchair in the trunk?"

"Yeah, sure." Magnolia didn't wanna waste any time either.

Just thinking about Seraphina's wild antics had both Dashiell and Magnolia on edge.

What if there's a crash or something...

Magnolia wrestled with the wheelchair, finally shoving it into the trunk.

As soon as the trunk slammed shut, the car peeled out, leaving her behind.

"Dashiell!" Magnolia yelled, totally frustrated.

She knew Dashiell didn't want her tagging along, not 'cause of time, but 'cause he drove like a maniac and didn't want her caught up if things went south!

Magnolia was worried sick.

Seraphina was seriously bad news.

Dashiell was tearing down the road like a bat outta hell.

While driving, he dialed a number. "Cassius."

"Dashiell? This late? You missin' me or something?" Cassius teased.

"I need a huge favor. It's urgent." Dashiell's tone made Cassius sit up straight.

What could rattle this usually cool dude?

"What's up?" Cassius asked.

"Can you check the traffic cams in Serenovia City and track down a car with the plate AQQ888? It should be heading from my place to the Metropolitan Hospital. Thanks!" Dashiell said.

"Got it." Cassius didn't pry further.

Just hearing Dashiell's voice, he knew it was serious.

Cassius was still out partying, but he shooed away the girls, grabbed his phone, and made a call. "Track down the car with the plate AQQ888 and get back to me ASAP."

"Yes, sir," the other end replied.

After hanging up, Dashiell floored it even more.

In the pouring rain, he couldn't stop thinking if Seraphina would make it to the hospital in one piece.

He clenched his teeth and pushed the pedal to the metal!

When Seraphina came to, she was already at the hospital.

Being wheeled into the OR, she felt a cold, sterile vibe all around.

Seeing the doc in scrubs, she quickly asked, "Doc, how's my baby?"

The doc looked surprised she was awake, then slowly said, "The baby's gone. We're doing a D&C on you now."

"No way! I can still feel her. Please, you gotta save my baby. She has to be okay." Seraphina was in denial.

"You're in a dangerous spot right now. If we don't do the D&C, you could bleed out. You need this procedure; the baby's already gone!" the doc insisted.

"Impossible!" Seraphina couldn't accept it.

"I know all about your situation," the doc said bluntly. "Since you're awake, you can sign the consent form."

"I won't sign... the baby's still there..." Seraphina struggled to speak.

"I get how you feel, but if you don't sign and have the surgery, both you and the baby will die. You can have another baby later! I'll be careful not to harm your uterus, so you can still have kids in the future!" the doc tried to convince her.

"Your bleeding's way past the safe zone. If you don't sign, we can't save you either. Hurry up and sign!" Another doc shoved the consent form at Seraphina.

Tears welled up in Seraphina's eyes.

This baby had brought her so much grief, costing her love and freedom, but now that it was really gone, her heart shattered.

It felt like she lost the most important thing in the world, and the pain was unbearable.

"Come on, hurry up!" the assistant doc kept pushing.

Finally, Seraphina scribbled her name on the form.

The second she signed, it felt like her world crumbled.

"I'm gonna give you more anesthesia now. Relax, you'll be fine when you wake up," the doc tried to soothe her.

Seraphina closed her eyes, tears streaming down.

For the first time, she truly felt the sting of loss, and it was brutal.

Dashiell, driving like a lunatic, got a call from Cassius halfway there.

Cassius cut to the chase, "Dashiell, stay calm."

Dashiell's grip on the wheel tightened.

His face changed instantly.

"Seraphina was in a car accident," Cassius said bluntly.

Dashiell's knuckles turned white on the steering wheel.

"She's at the hospital. They said she wasn't in life-threatening condition when she got there, the crash wasn't too bad, but the baby's status is iffy," Cassius continued, his tone softening.

Dashiell just listened, silent.

"Dashiell, you good?" Cassius asked.

Dashiell replied, "Thanks."

"Want me to come over and be with you?" Cassius offered.

"No need." Dashiell hung up.

His vision blurred for a sec, but he forced himself to stay focused.

He didn't ease up on the gas, still driving like a maniac towards the hospital.

When he got to the garage, Dashiell swung the car door open, got out, balanced on one leg, grabbed the wheelchair from the trunk, sat in it, and rolled into the hospital.

The place was eerily quiet at night, almost deserted.

Dashiell headed straight for the emergency OR.

As he got closer, he overheard two orderlies chatting, "Another sad case tonight."

"What happened?" the other orderly asked.

"Didn't you hear? A pregnant woman came in for an abortion. She was four months along, the fetus was formed, and it was a girl."

"I heard it was a car accident?"

"Yeah, but the baby was still alive when she got here. If the woman had held on a bit longer, the baby might've been saved," the orderly said regretfully. "When I took the fetus to be disposed of... I couldn't bear it."

"It's a life, how can you just give it up like that!" the other orderly sighed.

"Alright, let's drop it."

"Yeah, let's go."

The two orderlies walked past Dashiell.

Dashiell stared at the OR door.

In his head, he kept hearing, "The baby was still alive, if the woman had held on a bit longer..."

His vision blurred again, but he held it together.

He wheeled himself to the OR, waiting for Seraphina to come out.
