Chapter 590 Dominic Sentenced (2) Death Penalty with Reprieve

At ten o'clock, Dominic's trial kicked off.

Gideon, the prosecutor, laid out all the dirty deeds of Dominic and Octavia.

Then, one by one, the victims and witnesses took the stand.

Lyra was among them.

She didn't hold back, calling out Dominic for every single crime, including the abuse she endured from him and Octavia at the hospital.

Dominic probably never imagined he'd be taken down by a woman.

He always thought he had women under his thumb.

But here were Cecilia and Lyra, the very women he tried to control, now pushing him to the edge.

The defense didn't put up much of a fight for Dominic and Octavia, so the trial went pretty smoothly. Despite their denials, the mountain of evidence led to a quick verdict.

Dominic got the death penalty, with a 20-year reprieve.

Octavia got life in prison.

For them, it was game over.

After the verdict was read.

Cecilia didn't even glance at Dominic. She ignored his shock, his breakdown, and Octavia's sobbing.

She left the courtroom.

Just as she was about to get into the car, someone called her from behind. "Cecilia."

Cecilia turned and saw Lyra.

Lyra walking up to her was unexpected.

Cecilia knew that even if Lyra knew she was the one who saved her from Dominic, Lyra wouldn't be grateful.

After all, Lyra was well aware that Cecilia did it not for her, but for herself, to ensure Alaric's acquittal and to see Dominic punished.

In fact, Lyra's miscarriage was probably Cecilia's doing.

Even though she got revenge on Dominic, she was always working for Cecilia.

How could someone as proud as Lyra accept that calmly?

Yet here was Lyra, approaching her.

Cecilia stayed cool and smiled, "Ms. Monroe, what can I do for you?"

"Can we talk in private?"

Cecilia glanced at Augustus, "Wait for me in the car."

"Sure," Augustus nodded.

"Ms. Monroe, go ahead," Cecilia said directly.

Lyra didn't waste time, "Do you want to team up with the Monroe family?"

Cecilia raised an eyebrow.

Lyra looked confident, "You heard right, we want to bring you on board."

"I'm honored," Cecilia didn't give a straight answer.

Lyra smiled, "My father thinks you showed real skill with the Alaric and Dominic situation. He respects you. You wouldn't turn us down, would you?"

"I'm really grateful for the Monroe family's offer. But our Lockhart family is just a merchant family, we don't really know how to team up with the Monroe family. The Yakurosean Empire is run by noble families, and we follow their lead. Whatever they say, we go along with."

Cecilia's words were a polite rejection, but she cleverly showed her loyalty to the noble families, making it clear she had no other intentions. It also showed her neutral stance.

Lyra's face darkened.

Cecilia's words were fancy but basically a no.

When Tomas asked her to recruit Cecilia today, she had disagreed.

Why should someone like Cecilia get the honor from their Monroe family?

But Tomas convinced her to give it a shot.

After all, it was just about using the Lockhart family.

But she didn't expect Cecilia to turn her down like that.

Who did Cecilia think she was?

Even a big shot couldn't compete with a noble family.

"Please convey my gratitude to Mr. Monroe, Ms. Monroe. I'm honored by his appreciation. I'll definitely fulfill my duties as a citizen in the future." Cecilia kept it short.

She nodded politely, then got in the car and left directly.

Lyra's face was stormy.

Dominic used to bend over backward to please her, and now she had gone out of her way to show respect and talk to Cecilia, only to be flat-out rejected!

Lyra was livid.

She turned and stormed off!

She'd make sure Cecilia paid for this!

Cecilia looked down at her phone while in the car and saw a message: [You can see him now.]

Cecilia replied: [Thank you.]

Then she told Augustus, "To the detention center."

Augustus didn't ask any questions, and the car headed straight there.

Cecilia looked out at the beautiful scenery of Serenovia City.

The New Year had passed, and winter was more than halfway over.

Dominic probably wouldn't see another spring.

The car soon arrived.

Cecilia got out, and as she walked in, Augustus was stopped. The staff said, "Only Ms. Lockhart is allowed in."

Cecilia nodded and told Augustus to wait for her.

Gideon had made an exception to let Cecilia see Dominic, so she wasn't going to push her luck.

She followed the guard into a cell.

The Monroe family had treated Dominic fairly well; at least in these few days, he hadn't been beaten. It was known that Alaric had been brutally tortured by Dominic.

Of course, once Dominic was imprisoned, his days wouldn't be easy. For now, it was just to avoid criticism.

Dominic was a bit surprised to see Cecilia, though he tried to hide it.

He sneered, "What are you here for?"

"To mock you," Cecilia said bluntly.

One sentence was enough to set Dominic off.

His bloodshot eyes glared at Cecilia with hatred, "Cecilia, you'll die a horrible death too!"

"That was in the past life," Cecilia's face turned cold.

Dominic glared at her with intense hatred.

Cecilia smiled, "Aren't you curious why I've changed so suddenly?"

"What do you want to say!" Dominic was furious, not wanting to hear another word from her, "I admit defeat to you!"

"Admitting defeat isn't enough; I want you to understand why lost," Cecilia said coldly.

Dominic gritted his teeth.

Cecilia was deliberately reopening his wounds.

She knew how strong Dominic's character was. Even in death, he couldn't accept his failure; he'd rather deceive himself.

"Dominic, let me tell you a story," Cecilia said nonchalantly, ignoring Dominic's current rage.

She continued, "It's a ridiculous story, but you know it's true."

Dominic trembled with suppressed anger.

Cecilia's calm voice went on, "I lived a completely different past life. In that life, I loved you deeply, gave everything for you, believed everything you said, did everything you asked, endured all the humiliation from your Kingsley family. I thought you loved me, but what you wanted was always the Lockhart family's fortune!"
