Chapter 531 Meeting Alaric (1) Forcing Dominic
Cecilia locked eyes with Cassius, her gaze unwavering.
Cassius took his time, "So, that night, Alaric had dinner with some folks from the State Office. He had a few too many drinks, but he wasn't plastered. To anyone else, he probably looked pretty tipsy. After the drinks, Juliana was waiting for him at the door. She went up to help him out. Honestly, if I hadn't seen it myself, I might've thought she was you for a second."
Cecilia's brow furrowed.
"Juliana did it on purpose, trying to take advantage of Alaric being drunk to pretend to be you," Cassius explained. "Alaric played along and left with Juliana, heading to a hotel. Once there, he slipped out with my help. So, remember, I was the one who brought him back that night."
"Yeah," Cecilia nodded.
She recalled Alaric being a bit out of control that night.
Was Juliana trying to seduce him?
Cecilia reminded herself now wasn't the time to get caught up in that.
Cassius continued, "It was only on the way back that I realized Alaric had been drugged."
"What?" Cecilia's eyes widened.
Alaric had been a bit off that night, but it didn't seem like he was drugged.
She remembered the last time Seraphina was drugged; she was a complete mess.
Alaric had shown remarkable restraint.
Cassius seemed to read her mind and said, "His self-control is something else."
Cecilia nodded, trusting Cassius.
So, Alaric wasn't out of control because of Juliana.
Alright, the truth was, she still cared a lot.
Love came with a hefty dose of possessiveness.
"After I got Alaric back, I got a call saying Juliana had vanished from the surveillance," Cassius said. "So, I can prove Alaric didn't assault Juliana, but I can't prove how Juliana was killed."
"So, you can clear Alaric's name but can't pin it on anyone else." Cecilia's face darkened.
She wanted to clear Alaric's name and make those who hurt him pay.
Cassius said, "For now, it's enough that Alaric is innocent. We can gather more evidence over time."
Cecilia nodded.
Just then, her phone rang.
She glanced at it and said to Cassius and Dashiell, "It's Dominic."
"Answer it."
"Okay." Cecilia hit the answer button.
"What are you trying to do!" Dominic's voice was low and angry, but she could hear the frustration.
Cecilia laughed, "Did I crash your wedding night?"
"Cecilia, what do you want!" Dominic was livid.
He had just gotten home with Lyra, and they were about to go to bed. Even though Lyra was pregnant and they couldn't have sex for three months, he had set up a romantic evening to win her over. But just as things were getting cozy, the butler knocked on the door and handed him an envelope.
It had Cecilia's name on it, and inside was a note: [Call me tonight, or face the consequences.]
At first, he didn't want to bother.
But then he remembered how he was nearly seduced by Cecilia at the banquet today, and a wave of guilt washed over him.
After a moment of hesitation, he told Lyra he had some work to handle and stepped out to call Cecilia.
"I want to see Alaric," Cecilia demanded.
"Are you out of your mind?" Dominic snapped, not hiding his anger. "Who do you think you are? You think you can just see him whenever you want? Cecilia, you mean nothing to me now! Don't think making me lose control for a second today gives you any power in my world. Do you really think I have feelings for you? I just want to humiliate you. A woman like you, even if you were naked in my bed, I'd find you disgusting."
"I'll send you something later," Cecilia cut him off, not interested in his rant.
Maybe Dominic wasn't into her before, and she knew how cold his gaze was in her past life.
But today, she was sure of his reaction; Dominic wanted her.
She said, "You'd better watch it in silence, or face the consequences."
With that, Cecilia hung up.
She turned to Cassius and Dashiell, "I'm going to see Alaric later. You don't need to come."
"You're going alone?" Cassius looked worried. So was Dashiell.
"Yeah, with Dominic being so cautious, he definitely won't let me bring you guys," Cecilia said. "Don't worry, he won't dare do anything to me. He's very wary of me now, having been targeted so many times, he won't easily make a move."
Cassius and Dashiell still looked concerned but didn't argue.
Given the situation, they had to roll with it.
Five minutes later, Cecilia's phone rang again.
Dominic, almost shouting, said, "Cecilia, you set me up again!"
Cecilia grinned. "Mr. Kingsley, knowing I'm setting you up, you still fall for it? Is it because I'm too charming, or are you just hopelessly stupid?"
"Cecilia!" Dominic, shaking with rage, really wanted to strangle her.
"Tonight," Cecilia said, not wanting to waste time. "I'll wait for you to take me to see Alaric."
She hung up again.
After all, she had to give Dominic some time to make arrangements.
The detention center was no problem; with Dominic's influence, he could easily arrange a visit to Alaric.
But his new bride Lyra tonight, if not properly settled, would be hard to explain.
Dominic put down his phone, suppressing his anger, and went back to the room.
Lyra, tired from the wedding, was lying in bed, half-asleep.
Dominic went over and kissed her lips. "Honey, are you tired?"
"Yeah."
"I wanted to surprise you," Dominic said regretfully. "But your health is more important, especially since you're pregnant. Go to sleep early."
"What surprise?" Lyra tried to stay awake.
"What do you think?" Dominic smiled mischievously.
"The doctor said no sex for three months."
"But he didn't say I couldn't..." Dominic buried his face in Lyra's neck.
Lyra giggled. "Alright, stop it."
But Dominic kept teasing her.
Lyra, worried Dominic might lose control, quickly pushed him away. "I'm so tired, I need to sleep."
Dominic looked frustrated, but in reality, he just wanted Lyra to push him away!
