Chapter 629 She Is Just Afraid to Face Dashiell

"The doc said I can leave, just don't mess with the wound," Sebastian said, not noticing how uneasy Seraphina looked.

Seraphina's eyes wandered to Sebastian's wrist, partly hidden by his sleeve, where a faint white bandage peeked out. She hadn't slept a wink last night.

Her mind was all over the place, thinking about Dashiell. She had this crazy urge to jump out of bed and go to his place, wanting to be with him every second. It was a feeling she hadn't had since she was a kid.

It felt like being a lovestruck teenager again.

Just thinking about him made Seraphina restless, her heart pounding. That sleepless night, she got a call from Sebastian. She didn't really want to pick up, but figured it might be a good chance to clear the air. Things had been pretty heated earlier, and now she wanted to step back and explain everything to Sebastian.

She didn't want people thinking Dashiell was the one who messed up her relationship with Sebastian.

She just didn't want Dashiell to get a raw deal because of her.

As soon as she answered, Sebastian said, "Seraphina, I don't hate you. I just blame myself for not being good enough to keep you loving me."

Seraphina replied, "It's not that, Sebastian. You're not lacking. It's just that Dashiell..."

"It's just that Dashiell's better than me, right?" Sebastian said with a faint smile.

Seraphina felt a stab of guilt at his smile; the more Sebastian acted like this, the guiltier she felt.

"It's okay. I get it," Sebastian said calmly. "Dashiell's more attractive, more successful, and comes from a better background. Choosing him makes sense; you deserve the best."

Seraphina said, "Sebastian, please don't say that. I never thought you weren't good enough for me. I even feel guilty for chasing after you back then, doing it out of novelty, rebelling against my dad. My feelings for you were misguided, but it's too late to change that now. I just want to make up for the hurt I've caused you over the years."

"No need," Sebastian said calmly.

But his face twisted with pain.

Seraphina finally admitted she had pursued him out of novelty, to rebel against Atticus.

The more Atticus disliked something, the more she wanted to do it.

Honestly, back then, Sebastian had reached out to Seraphina to get a connection to Everhart Bank through her. If Sebastian hadn't stepped in, Seraphina and Dashiell would probably be together by now. Sebastian had seen them kiss at school and knew they had real feelings for each other.

Knowing Seraphina had feelings for Dashiell, Sebastian had made all sorts of plans to get close to her, to win her over.

"I'm sorry, Sebastian," Seraphina kept saying.

It was this guilt that Sebastian used as her weakness.

Seraphina was really soft-hearted.

As long as Sebastian seemed pitiful enough, she would never leave him.

Sebastian said, "No need to apologize or make amends. There's no right or wrong in matters of the heart."Seraphina cried even harder, feeling like his words meant she had done something really awful to him. The guilt and unease just kept growing inside her. She thought it over and decided she’d make it up to Sebastian with money or something.

"Goodbye, Seraphina," Sebastian said, his voice weak.

Seraphina's heart tightened, and she quickly asked, "Sebastian, what's wrong?"

Sebastian replied, "Nothing."

Seraphina asked again, "What's really wrong?"

"Nothing," Sebastian insisted, but his voice got even fainter. "I wish you and Dashiell happiness."

Seraphina called out, "Sebastian..."

"There will be no more obstacles between you and Dashiell. Seraphina..." Sebastian's voice seemed to choke.

Seraphina felt a wave of nervousness.

She had no idea what Sebastian was up to.

Sebastian continued, "If I had another chance, I hope we could just pass by each other. Then it wouldn't be so painful..."

"Sebastian!" Seraphina shouted.

But Sebastian had already hung up.

Seraphina was genuinely freaked out by Sebastian's words.

She sensed that Sebastian hadn't really let go; instead, he was drowning in despair—a deep, dark despair about everything. She knew that when someone hit rock bottom like that, it could lead to thoughts of suicide.

Without thinking, Seraphina immediately left her house and rushed to Sebastian's place.

As soon as she walked in, she saw blood everywhere.

Sebastian lay in a pool of blood, barely alive.

Seraphina felt all her strength drain away, her whole body shaking with uncontrollable fear.

She called an ambulance and had Sebastian rushed to the hospital.

She sat in the hallway, waiting for Sebastian to be saved.

At that moment, she was covered in blood.

Seeing Sebastian's blood on her, she felt truly awful.

Was it worth dying for her?

Seraphina didn't know what she would do if Sebastian really died.

She might regret it for the rest of her life.

After more than three hours of emergency treatment, Sebastian was out of danger.

When he saw her, he smiled and said, "I'm sorry."

Hearing this, Seraphina broke down in tears.

Sebastian said, "Don't cry. I've been alone since I was born. If I die, I'll just be alone again."

Sebastian's life had always been just him.

Without Seraphina, it would still be just him.

As she sat in the hallway waiting for Sebastian to be saved, Seraphina thought about how he had no family. In this life-threatening moment, no one was there to offer him love and warmth. Overwhelmed with guilt, she made the decision to reconcile with Sebastian and give up Dashiell.

Dashiell had relatives and friends around him; he wasn't lonely. The last time they broke up, Dashiell managed just fine on his own, but Sebastian couldn't.

Without her, Sebastian couldn't survive. His world had always revolved around her.

"I'll go with you to Everhart Bank to move your office," Sebastian said. "I want you back by my side."

Seraphina nodded.

She agreed to get back together with Sebastian and to leave Dashiell.

So, she ignored all of Atticus's advice, insisting on changing positions and being with Sebastian.

She knew very well that she was just afraid of facing Dashiell again!
