Chapter 32 Enraging Penelope
"Since Penelope has decided to apologize, she should apologize to Seraphina first," Cecilia said with great righteousness.
Penelope's entire expression changed. No matter how amazing she was at putting on a façade, she could no longer maintain it.
The person she hated the most in her life was Seraphina. They never got along, even when they were kids. Among so many socialite heiresses, everyone yielded to her except Seraphina, who always opposed her.
Later, she fell in love with Dashiell, only to find out that he actually liked Seraphina. This was the biggest insult of her life. She wished Seraphina dead!
Apologize to her now? No way in hell!
Octavia knew very well just how much her daughter hated Seraphine, and she could tell what Penelope was thinking at a glance. Making Penelope apologize to Seraphine now was more unbearable to Penelope than death, and Octavia couldn't help but blame Cecilia.
'What a bitch you are, Cecilia. Just how cunning and vicious are you? You should be honored that my daughter is even apologizing to you! Not only are you not, but you're now trying to play the martyr?' Octavia cursed inwardly.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
However, with so many people present, Octavia couldn't just leave directly. It seemed like everyone was waiting for Penelope's apology, making it impossible to escape.
"Penelope, you've been willful again, haven't you? How could you accidentally break Seraphina's phone? Apologize quickly," Nathaniel gently spoke, trying to avoid embarrassment for their family.
Although he cleverly used the words "accidentally," he still demanded Penelope to apologize to Seraphina.
Seraphina stood straight, waiting for Penelope to apologize.
She had to admit that she was more than satisfied with this "reward" from Cecilia.
Seeing that Penelope remained silent, Nathaniel's face turned grave.
"Penelope," he called out.
As the head of the family, his word was gospel! No family member dared to refute!
Octavia quickly tucked at Penelope, saying, "Penelope, apologize."
Penelope felt so aggrieved her eyes turned red.
"I know it was an accident, but breaking Seraphina's phone was wrong." Octavia pinched Penelope from behind again.
Penelope, in pain, glared fiercely at Seraphina, who smiled smugly.
"Penelope," Octavia urged.
"I'm sorry." Penelope finally spoke through gritted teeth.
She almost cried when she said it, but she held it in!
At this moment, her hatred for everyone present was probably unprecedented.
Watching them from the side, Cecilia sneered.
If the Kingsley family members didn't carry themselves with such arrogance and didn't present themselves as so cultured, well-mannered, and polite, they wouldn't have forced their daughter into such a humiliating situation!
One day, she would expose all the Kingsley family's disguises.
"No worries," Seraphina generously said, "You're young and ignorant. I won't hold it against you. Just don't bite people randomly next time."
Penelope almost lost it.
Young and ignorant? Bite people? Did Seraphina think of her as an irrational beast?
As soon as she understood Seraphina's sarcasm, she completely lost control and was about to retort back at Seraphina.
However, Octavia quickly pulled Penelope back. "Since it's settled, I'll take Penelope to have some dessert. She hasn't had dinner yet."
Octavia didn't want Penelope to embarrass the Kingsley family in front of everyone.
Once again, Penelope had to hold it in. She gave Seraphina a fierce look, then left with her mother.
The moment they were about to leave...
Suddenly, the sound of fabric tearing rang out, followed by Penelope's scream, which turned everyone's gaze toward her.
Penelope's dress was torn right at the chest area where her flesh-colored bra pad was exposed. Her state of extreme embarrassment was completely exposed to everyone.
Cecilia quickly moved her foot away from the hem of Penelope's long trailing dress, looking a bit panicked. "Penelope, you walked too fast just now, and I accidentally stepped on your dress."
"Ah!" Penelope was on the verge of losing her mind.
She had never been so embarrassed before. Never!
She covered her chest, looking like she was about to explode with anger, screaming without a care for her image.
Octavia took a while to react as well, quickly shielding her.
"Don't look!" Her voice carried some anger.
After all, everyone was watching. How could such an embarrassing scene be displayed to all these people? If that happened, how could their family, especially Penelope, ever restore her dignity as a noble?
By now, Dominic also reacted, quickly taking off his coat and covering Penelope.
"Take Penelope back quickly!" Nathaniel was also very displeased.
The Kingsley family had never been so humiliated. In fact, no one in their circle had ever been.
Octavia supported Penelope as the two of them left as quickly as they could.
Penelope's tears flowed freely on the way, feeling ashamed and furious.
Cecilia must have done it on purpose!
That bitch must have!
After Octavia and Penelope left, Cecilia and Seraphina exchanged a glance.
At this moment, Seraphina told herself never to underestimate Cecilia again.
This woman was wildly awesome! When did Cecilia become so cool?
"Everyone, I apologize for the disruption." Nathaniel smiled amiably.
"Accidents happen frequently. Come, come, we four great families haven't gathered together in a long time. Cheers," Theodore, as the host, naturally had to lighten the mood.
The people here were all smart, and they quickly followed suit.
Soon, it seemed like the banquet had returned to normal; everything seemed to be in harmony.
Meanwhile, Dominic had dragged Cecilia away to the backyard.
She could, of course, feel Dominic's anger.
"What did you do just now?" Dominic suppressed his anger, seemingly reaching his limit.
"I really didn't mean it." Cecilia looked innocent. "I don't know how Penelope's dress ended up under my foot. Plus, she was walking too fast just now. If she hadn't been in such a hurry, her clothes wouldn't have torn, exposing her in such a humiliating way."
"Cecilia, you've changed." Dominic stared at her closely, seeming very dissatisfied with her change.
Cecilia sneered inwardly, thinking, 'Indeed, I have changed. What was I supposed to do, then? Not change and keep getting toyed around by you?'
However, what she showed on the surface was an extremely innocent look. "Why would you suddenly think that? We're together every day; how could I change?"
Dominic's eyes turned cold.
Yes, they were together every day.
How could Cecilia change just like that?
Yet, somehow, Cecilia became so strange that he couldn't guess what she was thinking, and he couldn't control her either.
"Dominic, are you unhappy because of the conflict between me and your family?" Cecilia asked cautiously.
She sounded just like her previous life—afraid of his anger, considering his feelings at all times, and compromising time and time again whenever he seemed unhappy, even if it meant crossing her bottom line.
