Chapter 236 Teaching Penelope a Lesson
"Let's go, the banquet's about to start," Cecilia reminded.
She didn't want to be easily swayed by Alaric.
She wasn't sure how long she could keep her cool around him.
"Did you just say you like it when I touch you?" Alaric asked, still holding her.
Cecilia pursed her lips.
"Is that so?" Alaric pressed.
"I said, compared to Dominic, I'd rather you touch me," Cecilia clarified.
"Same thing," Alaric concluded, holding her hand as they headed to the banquet hall.
"It's clearly different," Cecilia retorted.
'Could Alaric be any more full of himself? It's not like Dominic and Alaric are the only men in the world,' she thought.
However, thinking back, it seemed like she only ever got tangled up with these two.
Cecilia felt a bit lost.
They bickered as they walked into the hall.
Behind them, a man emerged from a hidden corner.
He spoke into his transmitter, "They seem to be getting along well, no sign of anything unusual with Alaric."
"Keep observing."
"Yes."
Alaric held Cecilia's hand as they sat at their designated seats, waiting for the meal.
Dominic and Penelope were sitting together at Cecilia's table.
Cecilia glanced at Dominic.
At that moment, Dominic seemed to be staring at her too.
Their eyes met.
Cecilia looked away, feeling Alaric deliberately blocking her view to obstruct their line of sight.
'How childish Alaric is,' Cecilia thought.
Dominic's face turned grim.
Thinking about Cecilia and Alaric just now, he felt a surge of anger.
He thought, 'I'm not jealous! I absolutely don't like Cecilia! I'm just frustrated that I spent so much time on her, only for her to end up with another man. I won't rest until I've made her suffer!'
"Bitch," Penelope suddenly cursed.
The table was filled with the younger generation.
The older generation sat together.
In the upper class, seniority was everything; the elders were always honored.
Cecilia's eyes flickered.
Alaric's face instantly turned cold.
"Penelope!" Dominic called out.
In such a setting, Dominic had to maintain appearances.
Now that he had finally passed the civil service exam, he was looking to achieve some accomplishments, to have a legitimate reason to rise quickly. This period was crucial for him, and he couldn't afford any mistakes. Even his revenge on Cecilia was calculated to ensure it wouldn't affect him.
He now thought through everything carefully, being cautious and patient, not letting himself be ruined by Cecilia.
"I didn't name anyone! Dominic, what are you afraid of?" Penelope deliberately glanced at Cecilia.
Cecilia sneered.
Sensing Alaric about to get up, Cecilia quickly pulled him back.
Now that Alaric was moving towards a noble family, he couldn't afford any negative news.
If Alaric went over to slap Penelope, it would blow up.
And she had a feeling that Alaric might actually do it.
Despite how unbelievable it seemed, she couldn't take that risk.
Alaric's future achievements were tied to her success.
She glanced at Penelope, casually took out her phone, and while fiddling with it, said, "I wonder where all the Kingsley family's manners went. You used language that even commoners wouldn't. Truly impressive."
"Cecilia!" Penelope's face turned grim, but she held back. She sneered, "I didn't say it was you, and you're so quick to attack me. Are you admitting you're the bitch?"
Cecilia suddenly smiled.
That smile made Penelope's face turn even grimmer.
The current Cecilia was completely different from the woman she used to be.
No matter what Penelope did, it seemed worthless in Cecilia's eyes.
Just as Penelope was about to retort, Cecilia's phone rang with a recording, "…are you admitting you're the bitch?"
Clearly, Penelope had just cursed Cecilia, and Cecilia had recorded it.
Penelope's face turned pale.
She never expected that while Cecilia was playing with her phone and talking, she was recording her.
She always thought Cecilia was just trying to avoid embarrassment.
'When did Cecilia become so smart?' Penelope was so angry her face turned red.
But because of the recording, she couldn't say a word.
Cecilia put down her phone.
She placed her hands on the table, looking straight at Penelope, "What do you think will happen if I release this recording? The Kingsley family's young lady cursing non-stop, will it trend?"
Penelope said, "Cecilia, you wouldn't dare!"
"What makes you think I wouldn't?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.
Penelope was so angry she wanted to kill Cecilia.
"Cecilia, Penelope just spoke without thinking. Why use such underhanded tactics against her?" Dominic naturally sided with Penelope.
Not to mention whether Penelope's scandal would negatively impact the Kingsley family.
Dominic always supported Penelope.
In the past life, no matter how excessively Penelope treated Cecilia, Dominic would always say, "She's still young. Sometimes she speaks without thinking, but she means no harm."Penelope clearly was full of malice, rotten to the bone.
"Calling me underhanded, don't you feel ashamed?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.
She left Dominic speechless.
Dominic was also a bit angry.
He knew Penelope would be in a bad mood because of Dashiell's wedding. Before coming, he repeatedly warned her to control her emotions and not do anything extreme. He had been watching her the whole time, afraid she would do something embarrassing that would affect his future.
In the end, Penelope still caused trouble.
"I'm not a vengeful person. Since you say Ms. Kingsley meant no harm, I'll take it as such," Cecilia said calmly.
Dominic didn't dare to take Cecilia's words lightly.
He knew Cecilia's character too well; she wasn't that easygoing.
"Penelope, apologize and reconcile," Cecilia said directly.
Penelope's face, which had turned pale from fear, now turned red from anger.
Penelope had always been self-righteous; how could she accept apologizing to Cecilia repeatedly?
