Chapter 405 Seraphina Got Scolded by Magnolia
Dashiell just gave Sebastian a hard stare, not saying a word.
"Sebastian, I know exactly why you're cozying up to Seraphina," Dashiell finally said.
Sebastian's face twitched a bit.
"If you can be a decent guy, I'll let you and Seraphina be. But if you can't..." Dashiell's eyes bore into him. "I'll keep messing it up for you!"
Sebastian just glared back at Dashiell.
He watched as Dashiell walked away after dropping that bomb.
Grinding his teeth, he turned and headed back to the hospital room.
Inside, Seraphina was still lying on the bed.
Her sadness was pretty obvious, but Sebastian acted like he didn't notice.
"Seraphina, you should get some rest," he said.
Seraphina turned to him and asked, "What did you and Dashiell talk about?"
"I just didn't want him to blame you. This isn't your fault; it's on me, but..." Sebastian hesitated.
Seraphina looked at him.
"It's understandable, after all, it's his kid. He can't just let it go." Sebastian gave a sad smile. "I don't have the right to ask him to do anything."
"My issues with him are none of your business," Seraphina said bluntly.
Sebastian was caught off guard.
He didn't expect Seraphina to suddenly get so cold with him.
Sebastian swallowed his anger.
At least he had managed to mess up their relationship. No matter what, this kid would be a huge roadblock between them. Their already shaky relationship would only get worse.
"I'm sorry, I thought I could help you." Sebastian looked a bit guilty. "I overstepped."
"I didn't mean that." Seeing Sebastian's guilt, Seraphina softened. "Dashiell's just angry right now. I feel like no matter what you say, he's not gonna take it well."
Sebastian nodded.
A lot of times, Seraphina actually felt sorry for Sebastian.
She always thought he'd feel really insecure being an orphan, so she always tried to be extra considerate of his feelings.
She didn't want him to live such a miserable life.
"Sebastian, you're seriously hurt. Go back to your room and rest. I'll sleep for a bit too," Seraphina said.
"Can you handle it by yourself?" Sebastian asked, sounding worried.
"I can." Seraphina nodded.
Only then did Sebastian leave Seraphina's room, still worried.
The moment he turned around, his expression changed noticeably.
Despite Dashiell's threats, knowing Seraphina would stand by his side was enough to keep him going.
Dashiell drove off with one foot on the gas.
It was still pouring outside.
Dashiell slowed his car down a lot.
He saw his phone ringing and answered, "Mom."
"How's Seraphina? Where are you now? Are you at the hospital?" Magnolia's anxious voice came through.
So late at night, she was probably too worried to sleep.
"The baby is gone," Dashiell said bluntly.
"What?" Magnolia was clearly struggling to accept it.
"Seraphina's fine, just some minor injuries. But she just had an abortion, so she's still in the hospital. Let Atticus know," Dashiell said calmly.
His tone didn't give away any emotion.
"Dashiell, don't be too down. You and Seraphina can always have another kid. You're both still young," Magnolia's voice softened, trying to calm down.
Dashiell mumbled a response and hung up.
But there wouldn't be another one.
This kid was a fluke.
Life doesn't throw that many flukes your way.
He drove around, not heading straight home.
Dashiell didn't want to dump his bad vibes on anyone.
He'd been like that since he was a kid.
Kept everything bottled up.
Seraphina always thought Sebastian had it rough, not knowing that as an "illegitimate child," Dashiell wasn't exactly living the dream either.
In the end, it was because she didn't love him.
Magnolia told Atticus, who then had the driver take Magnolia and Lucy to the hospital.
They brought Lucy along because Seraphina would need someone to look after her.
When they got to the hospital, Seraphina was lying alone in the bed, looking pretty down.
Atticus was mad when he first heard the news, but seeing Seraphina lying there softened him up. He rushed over, asking, "Seraphina, how are you? Feeling any pain?"
Seeing Atticus, Magnolia, and Lucy, Seraphina's face changed. "What are you all doing here?"
"What do you mean? You had a miscarriage and are in the hospital. It's only natural I come to visit you. How are you feeling?" Atticus asked, concerned.
"I'm fine. You can leave now." Seraphina looked annoyed.
She just didn't want them there.
She didn't want to be reminded over and over that the baby was gone.
Seraphina would rather deal with it alone than have people keep bringing it up.
"How can you be fine? A miscarriage is a big deal; it messes with your body and mind," Atticus said earnestly.
"The doctor said I'm still young, the surgery went well, and there's no major harm. Don't jinx me!" Seraphina snapped.
"Yes, you're still young. You can have more kids in the future. I just want to spend more time with you. A miscarriage is hard on the heart too." Atticus quickly changed his tone, trying to calm her down.
"I wasn't looking forward to this baby anyway. It's gone, so be it..." Seraphina said.
"Seraphina, how can you be so heartless?" Magnolia finally couldn't hold it in.
Seraphina bit her lip and glared at Magnolia.
"Yes, you weren't looking forward to it, but did you think about how much others were? Your dad and I were so excited for your baby! And Dashiell, do you know how Dashiell got to the hospital? In that heavy rain, he drove himself to chase after you! Do you know how bad his leg is, how fast he was driving? I couldn't even see his taillights! Can't you have a bit of conscience?" Magnolia couldn't hold back anymore.
When Magnolia came, she had told herself to stay calm.
She thought Seraphina must be feeling awful too.
The miscarriage had also taken a toll on Seraphina's body, so she decided to keep it in.
But seeing Seraphina so heartless now, she felt all her worry was for nothing.
Seraphina's eyes welled up at Magnolia's words.
