Chapter 27 Ill Intentions

"I would rather die than apologize to Cecilia," Penelope shouted in the hall.
"I wasn't joking with you." Dominic didn't listen to Penelope's explanation at all.
"Why should I apologize to her when she hit me, and you want me to apologize to her? She should be the one apologizing to me." Penelope was angry.
"Just because she didn't hit you, you are deliberately fabricating," Dominic said, emphasizing each word.
"She really hit me. Why don't you believe me? She really hit me with Seraphina." Penelope's eyes turned red with urgency.
"Cecilia has always been gentle and considerate, a standard lady; she wouldn't hit anyone." Dominic was defending Cecilia.
"She hit me! She really did." Penelope threw a tantrum in the hall, probably not expecting Dominic not to believe her.
"I don't want to hear you yelling and causing a scene anymore; you must apologize tomorrow." Dominic had made up his mind.
"I won't!" Penelope also made up her mind that she couldn't apologize.
"Penelope! Do you want our family to be ruined?" Dominic asked angrily.
"You're absolutely right," Penelope said stubbornly.
Octavia probably understood as well, she yelled at Penelope, "Penelope, if you continue to be so stubborn, I will be angry too."
"Mom, why don't you believe me?" asked Penelope.
Octavia said, "I don't care if it's true or not. Anyway, you must apologize to Cecilia tomorrow."
"Mom!" Penelope burst into tears.
However, Octavia did not soften her heart this time. "Even if Cecilia did hit you, so what? Now, it's most important for our family to successfully marry her. Since you provoked her, you better make amends to her. After successfully getting married, you can bully Cecilia however you want, but until they are married, you have to keep up the act."
Penelope cried in grievance.
"You're not a child anymore, you need to look at the big picture. Don't worry. Even if you apologize to Cecilia tomorrow, I can help you get back at her," said Octavia.
Penelope didn't listen at all, just kept crying all the time.
"Tomorrow is Genevieve's 50th birthday; I will make Genevieve embarrassed." Octavia comforted. "If her daughter bullies my daughter, I will bully her."
Penelope wiped away her tears and asked, "How will you bully her?"
"Genevieve has always had poor taste in clothing. I will attend in full regalia tomorrow and attract all the attention. Just think, since I will have a relationship with Genevieve in the future, we will be compared often. When there are too many rumors, Genevieve will have to make a concession. I don't know how Genevieve dares to have her 50th birthday party," Octavia said disdainfully.
In the upper-class society, male dominance and female subservience were very prominent.
Genevieve's ability to host her own 50th birthday party actually made Octavia jealous. Octavia’s status in the socialite circle had always been high.
Externally, she had a husband who loved her, a capable son, and a well-behaved daughter; all the wealthy ladies flattered her, so she had always maintained a proud posture.
Even so, since getting married, she had never had her own birthday party, nor had she ever invited the upper-class society to a grand birthday party in her husband's name. On the other hand, Genevieve, who had always had no status in the socialite circle, unexpectedly had such a grand birthday party, which made her very annoyed.
‘Tomorrow, I’ll let Genevieve know that without that status and appearance, she shouldn't show off,’ thought Octavia.
The next afternoon, after lunch, there were suddenly many people in the Lockhart family mansion hall.
Genevieve was a bit surprised. After all, she hadn't been told about the birthday party tonight. She looked at the staff somewhat puzzled.
"Aren't we supposed to celebrate your birthday with Dad together tonight? I want Dad to give you a surprise." Cecilia had already planned her words.
"I have a birthday every year, what's the surprise for? Don't scare your dad," said Genevieve.
"How could I?" Cecilia was a bit unhappy; she said, "Anyway, you are supposed to do a beauty treatment with them now, then change into evening gowns and do makeup."
"Always so mischievous." Genevieve pursed her lips.
"Hurry up." Cecilia urged her to go with the staff.
"Don't you want to do it too?" Genevieve asked.
There were often beauticians who came to provide services at home, and Cecilia used to enjoy their services with her mother.
"I don't need it; I was born beautiful," Cecilia joked.
Genevieve smiled. "You're not humble at all."
"You go ahead; I'll come to help you change into your gown later," said Cecilia.
"Okay." Genevieve couldn't refuse her and left with the staff.
As soon as she left, Cecilia quickly informed the staff decorating the party scene to come to the mansion to set up and called Theodore to get ready.
They had been busy all the afternoon.
After everything progressed in an orderly manner according to the schedule, Cecilia finally went to Genevieve's room.
At that moment, Genevieve had just finished her beauty treatment. Her face and body looked smooth and tender, still looking like a young girl.
"Mom, how do you take care of your skin so well?" Cecilia praised unabashedly.
"Mrs. Lockhart, your complexion is the finest we've seen among those of your age." The staff also complimented her quickly, and it was true. "If I didn't know your age, I would suspect you are at most 30 years old."
"You young generations always say nice things." Genevieve blushed a bit.
"I’m not lying, madam. You not only take good care of your skin but also maintain your figure well. From the back, you really look like a young girl," continued the staff.
"Why are you all speaking so highly of me?" Genevieve blushed even more.
Cecilia couldn't help but find her mom adorable. ‘Dad is really lucky to have married Mom.’
"Is the gown ready?" Cecilia asked the staff.
"We'll dress Mrs. Lockhart in it right away," the staff quickly replied.
At that moment, they took out a black long evening gown, covered with scattered diamond fragments, looking like twinkling stars in the galaxy, dazzlingly beautiful.
"Isn't this a bit too gorgeous?" Genevieve looked at the gown, somewhat surprised.
"It has to be gorgeous, grand enough to make my dad not want to take his eyes off you," said Cecilia.
"We've been married for so many years; what more attraction do we need?" Genevieve was a bit resistant. "Change into something simpler; I don't want to scare your dad."
"This dress was designed by me personally," Cecilia suddenly said.
At that moment, Genevieve hesitated. She knew that Cecilia had always loved design since she was a child, and she was extremely talented, but to keep a low profile, they had never exposed Cecilia's international awards. Seeing Cecilia looking a bit lost at this moment, Genevieve didn't want to refuse anymore.
"Mom, will you wear it?" Cecilia coaxed.
Genevieve, helpless, smiled. "My daughter designed it herself; of course, I have to wear it." With that, she immediately went to change into the gown with the staff.
When she came out in the gown, Cecilia was truly amazed by her.
Genevieve’s perfect figure was coupled with the unique charm of a mature woman. She was noble and elegant, exuding all kinds of charm.
