Chapter 8 I'm in Love

Cecilia glanced back at Alaric, their eyes locking for a moment.

Maybe just for a second, they both looked away at the same time.

Alaric hurried to the host, "Let's wrap this up!"

The host, who had been watching the scene, snapped back to reality, "4.5 million dollars, going once!"

"4.5 million dollars, going twice!"

"4.5 million dollars, fair warning..."

"Sold for 4.5 million dollars! Congratulations, Mr. Whitaker!"

The room burst into applause.

Alaric went up to the stage and took the sapphire in front of everyone.

Then, everyone watched as Alaric walked over to Dominic and Cecilia.

Dominic frowned slightly.

He thought Alaric was coming to gloat. But to his surprise, Alaric handed the sapphire directly to Cecilia, "This is for you."

Everyone was stunned.

Alaric never played by the rules, and now they were seeing it firsthand.

Cecilia looked at Alaric.

"Don't you like it?" Alaric asked her. His ambiguous tone made Cecilia's heart flutter inexplicably.

"Cecilia wouldn't..." Dominic started to say, but Alaric handed the jewelry box to Cecilia.

Cecilia took it without hesitation.

Dominic looked at Cecilia in disbelief.

Cecilia said, "Since Mr. Whitaker insists, I can't refuse his kindness."

Alaric smiled and said to Dominic, "Since she likes it, buy it for her."

Dominic's face turned completely dark.

"I'm outta here," Alaric said to Dominic.

She watched his back as he walked away, pondering, 'Is that how he chases women?'

"When did Alaric become so charming!" Seraphina, who was always a bit outspoken, couldn't help but say.

After she said it, Dominic's face looked even worse.

Cecilia, however, smiled subtly.

Dominic always prided himself on being different from other wealthy heirs, holding a sense of superiority and often looking down on others.

The outside world also held Dominic in high regard, labeling him a once-in-a-millennium talent in the Yakurosean Empire, with a family background, education, and abilities so perfect that it made people wonder if God played favorites.

Later, Cecilia discovered that these evaluations were deliberately created by the Kingsley family for Dominic, and Dominic took them all seriously. He really thought he was superior.

Given today's situation, Dominic was definitely upset.

Seraphina seemed to realize she shouldn't have said that.

She stuck out her tongue, "Cecilia, it's getting late. I'll head back."

Cecilia nodded, "Be careful on your way home."

Seraphina left.

The charity banquet also ended, and everyone gradually left.

Dominic hid his displeasure and offered to take Cecilia home.

The car was very quiet; neither spoke.

Dominic's mind raced with thoughts of how the media would describe him tomorrow. Each scenario fueled his anger further. He looked over at Cecilia, his tone harsh, "How could you accept his gift!"

Cecilia said, "My mom's birthday is coming up. She really likes this sapphire, and I plan to give it to her."

"Even so..."

"I originally wanted to bid for it myself," Cecilia interrupted him, "but you stopped me."

Dominic was suddenly rendered speechless by Cecilia's retort.

Clearly, he had thought Cecilia wanted him to pay for it.

Cecilia said calmly, "I told my dad before coming to the banquet that I wanted to bid for this sapphire to give my mom a surprise. He agreed and didn't set a limit."

Dominic felt a bit embarrassed. "I was just worried that Alaric, that spendthrift, would take advantage of you, so I stopped you."

Cecilia didn't expose his lie.

She said, "Since Alaric doesn't care about it, there's nothing wrong with me accepting it."

"Something he gave..."

"Dominic, you never used to insult others. What's changed?" Cecilia asked innocently.

Dominic was slightly stunned.

"You've been calling Alaric a spendthrift all night, and it makes you seem like a stranger to me. I thought you couldn't say such things," Cecilia said, looking disappointed.

Dominic quickly explained, "He was deliberately targeting me tonight. I got a bit angry. I won't say it again."

Cecilia nodded.

Dominic had been seething with anger, but a few words from Cecilia had forced him to hold it back.

Cecilia sneered secretly.

Dominic dropped Cecilia off at Lockhart Mansion.

As Cecilia got out of the car and walked to the door.

"Ms. Lockhart!" That sudden voice startled Cecilia again.

She angrily looked at the man leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.

"Are you always so elusive?" Cecilia said irritably.

"Isn't that how affairs work?"

"Who's having an affair with you!" Cecilia felt she couldn't have a normal conversation with him!

"Ms. Lockhart, I thought when you asked me to crash the wedding, it meant you were after my body."

She really wanted to knock him out.

"If that's not the reason, then give me back the card!" Alaric changed the subject.

Cecilia took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. She said, "Wait here for a moment."

Alaric nodded slightly.

Cecilia went inside, got the card, and handed it back to Alaric.

Alaric took the card and was about to leave.

Cecilia stopped him, "I'll transfer the money for the sapphire to you later."

"No need," Alaric said, "That amount is insignificant to me."

'If he didn't need money, why was he chasing her for the card!'

"Good night, Ms. Lockhart." Alaric got into his flashy red sports car and drove off.

For some reason, it felt like Alaric was completely different from how he appeared.

Alaric was a man of hidden depths.

As he drove, he looked at the card between his fingers. His face never revealed what he was thinking.

His eyes flickered as he answered a call.

"Cassius."

"Dashiell is back."

Alaric gave a grunt to show he got the message.
"I heard you spent 4.5 million dollars tonight just to make a lady smile?" Cassius couldn't help but gossip.

Alaric's lips curved slightly, "I'm in love."

Cassius was silent. This was the biggest joke he'd ever heard.

This man, who had never shown interest in women, was now announcing in such a gentle tone that he was in love.
