Chapter 194 Incident (5) Cecilia's Self-Defense
Cecilia didn't lie to Rebecca. She truly didn't believe Alaric had been into her for a long time.
They had no connection.
In her mind, Alaric didn't even exist, so how could he like her?
Maybe Jasper was the one tricking Rebecca.
Everyone knew Jasper liked Rebecca.
"Possible or not, I'm done with you!" Rebecca snapped. "I didn't kill you right away because I want your death to be slow and painful! I want you to feel the fear and suffer! Now, it's over." Rebecca shouted.
"Rebecca!" Cecilia called out, desperate, knowing Rebecca would be ruthless. "Alaric and I are in a fake marriage. You don't need to ruin your life over this! You don't need to kill anyone; it's not worth it!"
"Not worth it..." Rebecca sneered. "Cecilia, you can't possibly not know I have nothing left now!"
Cecilia's heart sank.
Rebecca was in a tough spot because of the failed shopping district project.
"My family's situation is so messed up, and now you've ruined my reputation. Do you think I have a bright future? My dad, with his character, might not beat me to death, but he'd hand me over to any business partner, turning me into a high-class escort. My family has done it before." Rebecca laughed bitterly. "I'd rather drag you down with me than go back to that life!"
"Ask Jasper for help," Cecilia tried to stay calm and reason with Rebecca.
"Do you think Jasper would really help me?" Rebecca asked.
"We all know he loves you," Cecilia replied.
"But he won't go against Alaric," Rebecca insisted.
Cecilia frowned.
Who exactly was Alaric that Rebecca would emphasize his identity so much?
"If Alaric knows I treated you like this, even if he doesn't kill me, he'll make my life hell," Rebecca said.
"No!" Cecilia said firmly. "I told you, Alaric and I are in a fake marriage. He won't do anything to you because of me!"
"That's because you don't know the real Alaric," Rebecca said coldly. "You don't know how terrifying he can be!"
How terrifying could Alaric be?
In Cecilia's mind, Alaric was just a guy who thought with his lower half.
In the extra ten years she lived, Alaric became more mature and reserved, giving off a cold, arrogant vibe, but she didn't find him terrifying.
"Cecilia, don't think I don't know what you're up to," Rebecca stared at her. "You're trying to stall for time, aren't you?"
Cecilia bit her lip.
Rebecca was never stupid.
"Are you hoping Alaric will come to save you?" Rebecca said bluntly.
Cecilia didn't deny it.
"Don't count on it; Alaric won't come," Rebecca said confidently. "I'm not lying to you."
"I'm not hoping for him to save me; I just don't want you to kill me," Cecilia said.
"Then there's even less reason for you to stall," Rebecca said coldly. "I've come this far; there's no turning back."
Cecilia watched Rebecca walk away.
Rebecca took a couple of steps back, then turned to the two men beside her and said coldly, "Kill her!"
Cecilia saw the men coming closer. She pushed herself back on the ground, trying to get away.
She had just been given a second chance at life; she couldn't die now.
Her palms were scraped and bleeding from the rough ground.
Her eyes locked on the two men.
One of them had a black handgun pointed right at her face.
Cecilia felt the chill of death again.
She gritted her teeth and shouted, "Rebecca, Alaric and I are really in a fake marriage. I have proof!"
Rebecca frowned.
Cecilia was about to die anyway.
To Rebecca, whether the marriage was fake or not didn't matter; it wouldn't change her mind about killing Cecilia.
But jealousy made her curious about Cecilia's claim.
Look at that.
Even at death's door, Cecilia was clever enough to buy herself a few more seconds.
Rebecca turned back.
She walked up to the men and signaled them to stop.
Cecilia's heart pounded as the man put away the gun.
She stayed on high alert.
She looked at Rebecca, now standing over her again. "What proof do you have that you and Alaric are in a fake marriage?"
"If it's not a fake marriage, a married couple should have a sexual relationship, right?" Cecilia asked, trying to stall for time.
She didn't know if Alaric would really come to save her.
But she had to give herself every possible second to survive.
She wouldn't give up until the last moment.
"So?" Rebecca asked coldly.
"I'm still a virgin!" Cecilia said firmly.
Rebecca looked surprised.
"I'm still a virgin. That proves Alaric and I haven't had a sexual relationship. The only reason we haven't, despite being married for so long, is that our marriage is just for show, without any real feelings."
Rebecca eyed Cecilia critically.
She didn't quite believe Alaric had no feelings for Cecilia or that their relationship was purely cooperative.
If all of Alaric's actions were just an act, he was a very convincing actor.
"Words aren't enough. How can you prove you're still a virgin?" Rebecca's lips curled into a cruel smile.
Cecilia bit her lip.
She told herself inwardly, 'Nothing is more important than staying alive.'
As long as she was alive, anything was possible.
If she died, she had nothing.
She said, "Any one of the men behind you can prove it!"
Rebecca was stunned for a second by Cecilia's words.
Then she laughed maniacally.
She felt contempt for Cecilia.
"Cecilia, to stay alive, you'd do anything!" Rebecca laughed exaggeratedly. "You're so afraid of death that you'd even sleep with a stranger!"
