Chapter 407 Cecilia Confesses Her Identity to Dashiell
"Cecilia, don't go. I'm freakin' scared," Seraphina clung to her sleeve.
"I'm not goin' anywhere. I'll stay right here. Just try to sleep," Cecilia whispered.
"Okay." Seraphina slowly shut her eyes and drifted off.
Cecilia stayed put, right by Seraphina's side the whole time.
Seraphina was just wiped out after a rough night.
Soon enough, Cecilia heard her steady breathing.
Cecilia softly called out to Seraphina.
No response.
Only then did Cecilia get up and slip out of the room.
Augustus trailed behind her. Instead of bailing from the hospital, she hit up the info desk to ask about Sebastian's room.
She tracked down the doc on duty for Sebastian.
"Hey, I'm a buddy of Sebastian's. Just wanna know how he's holdin' up injury-wise?" Cecilia asked straight-up.
The doc gave her a once-over, pulled up the records on the computer, and said, "Car crash, all external injuries. Worst is his right leg, glass went deep, needed eight stitches. His chest got four stitches, and his left wrist has a minor fracture. The rest are just bruises."
"Got it, thanks, doc," Cecilia said, grateful.
The doc gave a slight nod, not too jazzed, probably 'cause it was late and they needed some shut-eye too.
Cecilia left with Augustus.
So, Sebastian's car crash was legit.
If it was just a fluke, nothing more to say. But if it wasn't...
Sebastian was one complicated dude.
He'd do anything to get what he wanted.
Even Dominic wouldn't go as far as to hurt himself, but Sebastian? He blew her mind.
She hopped into Augustus's car and dialed Dashiell.
The call rang forever.
Cecilia thought for a sec and then had Augustus drive to Dashiell's place.
Some stuff, she felt, needed to be hashed out face-to-face with Dashiell.
Whatever he decided in the end.
She'd respect his choice.
Sebastian lay on his hospital bed, feeling all kinds of uncomfortable from his injuries.
He stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.
His gaze snapped to Penelope as she strolled into the ward.
His face changed instantly, "What are you doin' here?"
"What, feelin' guilty?" Penelope sneered.
"Shut up," Sebastian barked.
"Sebastian, you better remember your place. You're just a dog tryin' to latch onto the Kingsley family!" Penelope spat.
Sebastian glared coldly at her, his face darkening.
"You can't scare me like that," Penelope said nonchalantly. "I don't even see you as a threat."
"What do you want?" Sebastian asked through gritted teeth.
"Congrats! You finally made Seraphina miscarry, so you don't have to deal with the fact that the woman you love was carryin' someone else's kid!" Penelope said, dripping with sarcasm.
Sebastian's face turned icy. "Wasn't it all your plan?"
"It was my plan, but I didn't think you'd go all out, even gettin' into a real car crash. I thought you were just gonna fake it," Penelope said, stepping closer. "Are you seriously hurt?"
"Do you think it would've worked if I didn't go all out? Seraphina miscarried 'cause of me. You think no one's gonna dig into that?"
"Investigate? What can they find? Dominic's plans are airtight; no one's uncovering squat," Penelope said, all smug. "Even the doc who did the surgery was paid off. No one's finding out."
"You're underestimating Cecilia," Sebastian shot back. "Just 'cause Seraphina can't figure it out doesn't mean Cecilia can't. Don't forget how much trouble Dominic's been in 'cause of her lately!"
"Enough!" Penelope snapped. She hated Seraphina for stealing her man and Cecilia for just being too damn good at everything.
Hearing Sebastian praise Cecilia's skills made her blood boil.
"Cecilia will get what's coming to her. Just do your part!" Penelope barked. "Dominic has a message for you: "Get your hands on Everhart Bank, no matter what it takes." If you need his help, just ask!"
"Got it," Sebastian replied.
"Sebastian, for someone like you, being recognized by Dominic is your biggest break. You better appreciate it," Penelope said, looking down on him.
"I don't need your reminder," Sebastian snapped back.
Penelope snorted and left, showing her disdain for Sebastian.
If he wasn't useful, she'd have offed him already.
Penelope left, and Sebastian's face was still grim.
On one hand, it was Penelope's disdain and mockery.
On the other, he had to admit that making Seraphina miscarry did make him feel guilty.
Sebastian always thought he wouldn't fall for Seraphina.
His eyes narrowed.
Loving Seraphina and snagging Everhart Bank weren't mutually exclusive!
Cecilia rolled up to Dashiell's apartment and hit the doorbell.
When the door opened, Dashiell's annoyed voice came through, "Mom, I told you, you don't need to come... Cecilia?"
"It's me." Cecilia smiled a bit. "Did Aunt Magnolia just come by?"
Dashiell nodded. "She called saying she wanted to come over, but I told her not to. Thought she came anyway, but it was you."
"Can I come in?" Cecilia asked.
"Sure." Dashiell opened the door wider.
Cecilia asked Augustus to wait outside and followed Dashiell in.
As soon as she stepped in, the smell of disinfectant hit her.
Her eyes darted to the medical kit on the coffee table and the bloody swelling on Dashiell's hand.
Dashiell noticed her gaze and quickly hid his hand behind his back.
Cecilia didn't call him out on it.
Dashiell was the type to deal with his crap alone.
He never let anyone in.
"Have a seat," he said.
Cecilia plopped down on the sofa.
"Dashiell, I know about Seraphina's miscarriage," Cecilia said.
Dashiell, sitting in his wheelchair, responded with a cold indifference.
"I know this will create a rift between you and Seraphina. I don't think Seraphina was right either. She should take full responsibility for the miscarriage, so I'm not here to mediate," Cecilia continued.
"Just get to the point," Dashiell said with a slight smile.
Dashiell never made things hard for anyone.
Cecilia took a deep breath and said, "Dashiell, do you believe that I've been reborn?"
Dashiell was stunned, clearly not buying it.
