Chapter 582 Competition (4) Conspiracy
Dashiell asked Lucy to help him re-bandage his wound, and it took about half an hour.
Once they were done, Lucy opened the door to Dashiell's office, ready to leave.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw Seraphina standing there.
Lucy's face was already a bit flushed from Dashiell's sudden actions earlier. She had been blushing the whole time she was helping him with the bandage. Now, as she walked out, her cheeks were still rosy.
Seraphina just looked at Lucy's shy face with an indifferent expression. She had stormed off earlier after seeing something she shouldn't have.
But after calming down, she reminded herself that as Dashiell's future assistant, she needed to stay composed no matter what.
So, Seraphina forced herself to wait at the door for them.
"Ms. Everhart," Lucy greeted Seraphina enthusiastically when she saw her.
Seraphina pursed her lips slightly and nodded, looking somewhat cold. Lucy could sense Seraphina's displeasure and wisely decided not to say more, getting ready to leave.
"What are you doing here?" Seraphina couldn't help but ask, her tone casual but with a hint of jealousy.
"I came to bring Mr. Rainier lunch," Lucy quickly replied.
"You're really not afraid of trouble," Seraphina said sarcastically.
Lovers in the honeymoon phase could sometimes be so close it was unbearable.
"As long as Mr. Rainier gets his nutrition, it's no trouble at all," Lucy said with a bright smile, looking very happy.
Seraphina felt ridiculous. Did she have nothing better to do than worry about their relationship?
Lucy had served Seraphina for a while and knew her temperament. Sensing Seraphina's obvious disinterest, Lucy didn't say more, respectfully said goodbye, and left.
Seraphina watched Lucy's back as she walked away, wondering what Dashiell saw in her. Lucy was young with a decent figure, but she wasn't exceptionally beautiful—just a bit pure-looking among the ordinary. Did all men like this type?
Seraphina thought about it for a while and felt a bit conflicted. What kind of woman Dashiell liked and who he dated had nothing to do with her. She was just forced to be his assistant.
Thinking of this, Seraphina turned to look at the office door in front of her. She reminded herself that no matter when she entered Dashiell's office in the future, she must remember to knock!
"Come in," Dashiell's deep voice came from inside the office. Seraphina walked in as Dashiell was slowly eating lunch.
His voice was noticeably different from usual, a bit hoarse. Was it because he had just made love and was trying to control his emotions, causing his voice to change?
Seraphina didn't know why she was thinking so deeply. Seeing Dashiell's rich lunch, she realized she hadn't had lunch yet. She was really angry today.
"You'll be sharing an office with Secretary Cooper outside," Dashiell said indifferently while eating his lunch.
"Okay," Seraphina responded. The office fell silent again.
Seraphina just watched Dashiell eat his lunch, and for some reason, she couldn't look away.
Dashiell glanced up at her and asked, "Anything else?"
Seraphina snapped out of it and quickly shook her head. "No."
Her face turned a bit red, clearly embarrassed. She couldn't understand why she kept staring at Dashiell. What was so charming about him? She had seen everything about him.
Well, actually, Dashiell was quite good-looking. He was the kind of man who used his looks to attract women.
Seraphina turned around and said, "I'll go move my office now."
Dashiell nodded and continued eating his lunch. Seraphina left the office, feeling that Dashiell's attitude towards her was frighteningly cold.
After she left, Dashiell put down his utensils and looked towards the office door. His back injury was quite severe, and his face had been pale since Lucy helped him with the medicine.
Now, he was just using eating as a way to hide his back pain. In fact, he had no appetite at all. He didn't want Seraphina to notice anything, so he quickly sent her away. He didn't know if bringing Seraphina to his side would help her. He thought this was all he could do for her.
In another office at Everhart Bank, Sebastian's suppressed anger exploded when he received the news that Seraphina had become Dashiell's assistant! What was Atticus doing? Was he still trying to match Seraphina and Dashiell? The key point was that Seraphina agreed without even telling him!
Sebastian was extremely furious. He could clearly feel Seraphina distancing herself from him. Sometimes it wasn't even intentional; she just unconsciously kept her distance. If this continued...
Sebastian would never allow Seraphina and Dashiell to get back together. Everhart Bank had to be his. Seraphina had to be his! He gritted his teeth, took out his phone, and dialed a number. "Start causing some trouble," he said.
The person on the other end of the phone asked, "Now?"
"Now," Sebastian said angrily.
The person on the other end of the phone replied, "Got it."
After hanging up, Sebastian smiled coldly. He thought, 'Dashiell, let's see how capable you really are!'
At four in the afternoon, Dashiell was having a meeting with department personnel, discussing emergency plans for the Unity World Bank competition.
Halfway through the meeting, the office door was pushed open. "Mr. Rainier, Mr. Everhart wants to see you."
Atticus's secretary seemed a bit anxious, and Dashiell knew something must have happened. Without delay, he handed his laptop to Seraphina and said, "Help me arrange the rest of the work."
"Me?" Seraphina's eyes widened. Was Dashiell joking? She had been daydreaming the entire meeting. Now he wanted her to host the meeting?
But Dashiell didn't give Seraphina any chance to refuse. After giving instructions, he left with Atticus's secretary.
After he left, the meeting room became very awkward. Everyone was looking at Seraphina. She felt like running away.
She thought, 'Dashiell, that jerk, could he stop making me look so bad!' She wished she could just disappear right now!
