Chapter 661 Refusing the Proposal

Seraphina strolled into the house.

Sebastian had already set up a spread of mouth-watering dishes on the dining table.

"I'll get the soup, and then we can dig in. Seraphina, go wash your hands," Sebastian called from the kitchen.

It felt like they were an old married couple.

Seraphina nodded without a word.

She changed into some comfy clothes and freshened up. When she came back, Sebastian was waiting for her at the table.

Seeing her, Sebastian pulled out a chair for her like a true gentleman.

Seraphina sat down quietly.

Sebastian took his seat and started serving her food.

His thoughtfulness made Seraphina feel a bit uneasy.

"You should eat too," Seraphina said.

Sebastian smiled. "Alright."

Then he started eating.

Seraphina began to eat quietly too.

"How is it?" Sebastian asked.

"It's good," Seraphina nodded.

She had to admit, it had been ages since she had a home-cooked meal. She'd been living off takeout for so long that she was sick of it.

Now, having home-cooked food really hit the spot.

"I haven't cooked in a while. I was worried I'd lost my touch," Sebastian said.

"It's really good," Seraphina assured him.

Sebastian replied, "If you like it, I'll cook for you more often."

Seraphina paused.

Then she said, "You don't have to. You're so busy. You don't need to take care of me all the time."

Sebastian smiled warmly. "I feel bad for not spending more time with you. I won't let that happen again."

Seraphina wanted to say something, but Sebastian cut her off, "You've lost weight lately. You need to eat more."

Seraphina pressed her lips together.

She quietly ate the food in her bowl.

After dinner, Sebastian took it upon himself to wash the dishes.

After that, he peeled some fruit for Seraphina and sat on her couch watching TV.

By ten o'clock, Sebastian still showed no sign of leaving.

Seraphina gathered her courage and said, "Sebastian, we both have work tomorrow. You should head home."

"Can't I stay?" Sebastian suddenly asked.

Seraphina was visibly flustered.

"We've been dating for so long, but we're still just holding hands and kissing. Isn't our progress a bit slow?" Sebastian asked with a smile.

Seraphina really didn't know how to refuse.

If it were before, before she married Dashiell, she really wanted to be with Sebastian. Even right after her divorce from Dashiell, she wanted to be with Sebastian. But now, she was really put off by the idea.

She hadn't even thought about taking that step with Sebastian.

Seraphina's silence made Sebastian's eyes grow cold.

Her rejection was clear.

Sebastian tried to stay calm and knelt on one knee in front of Seraphina.

A look of surprise flashed in Seraphina's eyes.

She couldn't quite react to Sebastian's sudden move.

At that moment, she saw Sebastian take out a ring from his pocket.

It wasn't big, but it was very delicate.

Under the light, it sparkled with a special glow.

Sebastian said, "I thought of many ways to propose to you, and I thought of creating many romantic moments. But in the end, I chose the simplest way to express my deepest feelings for you. Seraphina, marry me. I swear I'll take care of you for a lifetime. I swear I'll love you for a lifetime."Seraphina stared at Sebastian, her eyes drifting to the ring that sparkled so brightly.

She stayed silent.

She could feel the resistance inside her.

She had always dreamed of Sebastian proposing, but now it just made her uncomfortable.

She stayed quiet for what felt like forever.

Sebastian was still kneeling, waiting.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Seraphina decided to refuse. "Sebastian, I need to think about it."

The disappointment on Sebastian's face was clear.

Seraphina knew her refusal hurt him deeply.

But she couldn't lie to herself and just get engaged to Sebastian.

Right now, she couldn't marry him, couldn't live with him.

"How long do you need to think?" Sebastian asked gently, like he was afraid of scaring her.

Seraphina shook her head. "I don't know."

She wasn't sure if she'd ever agree to marry him.

But for now, she definitely didn't want to.

"Can you give me an answer in a month?" Sebastian asked.

Seraphina looked at him, noticing his eyes were red and filled with tears.

She really didn't want to hurt Sebastian.

But she also didn't want to hurt herself.

She bit her lip hard.

"After a month, could you give me an answer?" Sebastian asked, his voice thick with emotion.

This was probably the first time Sebastian had ever cried in front of Seraphina. Tears streamed down his face.

Seraphina couldn't help but cry too, feeling a deep sadness she couldn't explain.

She didn't know if she was sad for herself or for Sebastian.

"Don't cry," Sebastian said, looking distressed. "I don't want to see you cry. When you cry, it feels like the end of the world."

Seraphina said, "I'm sorry, Sebastian."

"You don't have to apologize." Sebastian stood up and hugged Seraphina.

Seraphina leaned into Sebastian, silently shedding tears.

They held each other for a long time, lost in their emotions.

Eventually, Seraphina gently pushed Sebastian away and wiped her tears.

Sebastian did the same, drying his cheeks.

Both of their eyes were red and puffy, showing their shared pain.

Sebastian grinned and said, "Look at you, crying so much."

Seraphina smiled back, feeling a bit better.

"Sebastian, you should go home," she said softly.

Sebastian's fingers, which were wiping Seraphina's cheeks, paused.

Seraphina was still urging him to leave.

He thought Seraphina would be moved somehow.

But he couldn't push her too hard.

He still needed to win her sympathy.

So he said, "Alright."

Seraphina inexplicably felt relieved.

She just found it hard to face Sebastian.

"But promise me you won't cry anymore," Sebastian said, looking worried and affectionate.

"Okay." Seraphina nodded.

With that, Sebastian left Seraphina's house.

Once he was in the elevator, Sebastian's face fell, showing deep concern.

Even though he had expected the proposal to fail, it was still hard to accept.

But his main goal was to understand Seraphina's feelings.

While Seraphina didn't fully agree, she also didn't outright reject him.

As long as she didn't say no, there was still hope!

Next time, Sebastian would make sure Seraphina couldn't refuse.

Seraphina had to be his, and only his!

He thought to himself, 'Dashiell, don't even think about having Seraphina!'
