Chapter 579 Competition (1) The Impossible Task
The Executive Conference Room at Everhart Bank was packed with all the big shots.
Everyone who mattered was there, including Seraphina. She might not have a top position, but she definitely had some serious clout.
Seraphina didn't have much to do except listen to Atticus's grim rundown of the current situation, which sounded pretty dire.
But honestly, Seraphina just couldn't get into it; work stuff never really clicked for her.
She looked around at everyone's serious faces, like the world was ending or something.
Her eyes landed on Dashiell, sitting next to Atticus.
Unlike everyone else's over-the-top reactions, Dashiell was super chill.
He was all ears to Atticus's talk about how Unity World Bank's arrival would shake things up at Everhart Bank, jotting down notes here and there without saying a word.
Meanwhile, others were gasping and making a fuss, trying to show how much they cared about the company's troubles.
Sebastian was among them, looking all worried.
He kept sneaking glances at Dashiell, either on purpose or by accident.
Unity World Bank was definitely going to hit Everhart Bank hard. Losing market share was a given, and it meant a big drop in revenue this year.
Dashiell had promised everyone he'd boost Everhart Bank's revenue by fifty percent in six months. With only two months left, it seemed like a pipe dream.
As he thought about this, Sebastian couldn't help but feel a heavy mix of sarcasm and annoyance.
He was just waiting for the day Dashiell would eat his words.
Suddenly, Sebastian noticed Seraphina staring.
She was looking at Dashiell, and it wasn't just a quick glance.
For a while now, Sebastian felt like Seraphina was drifting away from him, and her feelings were fading.
Sebastian clenched his fist, planning that once Dashiell was out of the picture, he'd marry Seraphina.
Even if he had to give up his shares in Everhart Bank, as long as he married Seraphina and Dashiell was gone, the bank would eventually be his.
Sebastian didn't think he was being sneaky; he thought it was his right.
If it weren't for Atticus, his family wouldn't have fallen apart.
So, whatever he did to the Everhart family was fair game in his book!
"I think everyone gets the picture now," Atticus said after breaking down Unity World Bank's impact. "We're in for a long fight! I need everyone to give it their all, just like me. If Unity World Bank doesn't get a good start in Serenovia City, their future's gonna be tough. So, this is crunch time; no one can afford to mess up or slack off!"
Everyone quickly showed their support.
For the first time, Seraphina felt a bit fired up.
She used to think Atticus was just obsessed with Magnolia and had lost his edge.
After starting work, Seraphina began to see Atticus's strengths.
In the office, Atticus had this magnetic charisma and a real leader's vibe.
After some pep talk, Atticus handed out tasks and was about to head out.
"Mr. Everhart," a board member, Jeffrey Cook, suddenly spoke up, grabbing everyone's attention.
"Unity World Bank coming to Serenovia City is gonna hit us hard. I'll do my best to protect Everhart Bank's market share," Jeffrey said.
Atticus frowned; he wasn't a fan of empty slogans and thought it was a waste of time, so he didn't say much.
"I want to clear something up," Jeffrey continued.
Atticus figured Jeffrey was gonna talk about overtime pay.
That was normal; Everhart Bank had always treated its employees well over the years.
Just as Atticus was about to speak, Jeffrey said, "I remember Mr. Rainier promised to boost Everhart Bank's revenue by fifty percent in six months. With Unity World Bank's arrival, does that promise still stand?"
Atticus's face changed; at this crucial moment, Jeffrey was still hung up on that.
"Is this really the focus right now?" Atticus said coldly.
"Sorry, Mr. Everhart. I don't want to bring this up now or cause trouble, but many board members and senior leaders didn't agree with Mr. Rainier getting an executive position. It was only because of his vow that we were convinced. Now, with this sudden situation, I just want to know if his words still stand!"
Atticus wanted to steer the conversation away.
But Dashiell, who had been taking notes, looked up calmly and said, "They stand."
Atticus glanced at Dashiell sitting next to him.
He still thought Dashiell was too young. Dashiell could've used the sudden situation as an excuse, but he impulsively agreed, falling into their trap.
Dashiell's position had always been a hot topic, and Atticus had put up with the controversy. Now, Dashiell had messed things up himself.
"Are you sure?" Jeffrey asked.
Dashiell replied, "Sure."
"In the first four months, Everhart Bank's revenue only went up by eight percent year-on-year, far from your fifty percent target. Do you think you can still hit your so-called goal in this situation?" Jeffrey said sarcastically, clearly trying to provoke Dashiell.
Dashiell didn't get mad but stayed cool. He said, "What I said will naturally be accomplished. When I made this bet, I didn't say it wouldn't count in special circumstances. Mr. Cook, don't worry. If I don't achieve it in two months, I'll resign."
"Good!" Jeffrey said excitedly, clearly pleased with his success. He said grandly, "I appreciate your confidence. I look forward to you impressing us all!"
Jeffrey's praise for Dashiell now was to make sure Dashiell couldn't back out if he failed to meet the target.
But Dashiell just nodded slightly, staying much calmer than Jeffrey.
There was some murmuring in the conference room.
Seraphina didn't quite get the magnitude of Dashiell's target, but from everyone's reaction, she sensed that this goal was impossible.
