Chapter 313 Danger II: Searching for Alaric

Cecilia hung up the phone.

She just stared blankly at the streets of Serenovia City.

She hadn't expected that, not knowing whether Alaric was alive or dead, she would unhesitatingly drop everything to find him.

Cecilia bit her lip to keep her mind from wandering.

After all, she and Alaric were in a partnership now.

If something happened to him, their collaboration would be over.

As she was thinking this way, the car was about to get on the highway.

At that moment, a black sedan suddenly stopped in front of their car, blocking their way.

Cecilia frowned; she saw Cassius suddenly get out of the car.

He walked straight to her and pried open her window.

Cecilia opened the car door.

Cassius said, "You don't need to go. I'll go. I'll inform you if there's any news."

It took Cecilia two seconds to realize that Cassius was refusing to let her go to Lindwood.

She said, "Why can't I go?"

"Aren't you very busy? I don't want you to delay your work."

"No matter how busy I am, I should go check on Alaric at a time like this. He hasn't answered his phone, and it's been off, which is very unusual." Cecilia added.

"That's why I'm going to check on him."

"If you can go, why can't I?"

"Because it's not safe over there!" Cassius said bluntly.

He decided not to beat around the bush.

Cecilia's heart skipped a beat.

She knew this matter was definitely not simple!

"And Alaric doesn't want you to be in any danger, so just stay in Serenovia City and wait. I'll inform you as soon as there's any news." Cassius said.

"If it's unsafe over there, that's all the more reason for me to go," Cecilia was resolute. "Do you think, if something happened to Alaric, as his wife, I should just stand by if something happens to him?"

"You'll only cause us trouble if you go." Cassius said mercilessly.

"If I really become a burden, I'll leave on my own." Cecilia promised Cassius, "I definitely won't drag you down!"

"You have no idea what kind of world we're in. Alaric has always shown you the best side, but the cruelty..."

"Isn't it just death?" Cecilia interrupted Cassius, "I'm not afraid!"

Cassius was stunned for a few seconds by Cecilia's sudden burst of determination.

"You might think I'm useless, but from my perspective, if my husband is in trouble and I'm still at home living in luxury, what kind of person does that make me?! If something really happened to Alaric, do you think I could just go on living in this world without a care?! Cassius, if you truly care about someone, you just can't stay indifferent."

She admitted it.

She did care about Alaric.

It was because she cared that she felt so impulsive, so reckless upon hearing about his danger.

Cassius hesitated.

It was clear Cecilia had swayed him a bit.

"Cassius, Alaric would want to see me care for him too, not just have him always giving without condition," Cecilia said, her gaze resolute.

Cassius was silent for a few seconds.

Finally, he spoke, "If there is real danger, when I let you go, don't try to bargain with me."

"Deal," Cecilia agreed immediately.

Cassius then opened the passenger door and had Augustus quickly drive them to Lindwood.

Initially, Cecilia had thought it might just be an accident and that Alaric probably wasn't even at the scene. But Cassius' serious demeanor made her anxiety escalate.

The car reached Lindwood five hours later, heading straight for the local hospital.

This was where all the injured and deceased were reported to be.

Cecilia and her team followed the proper procedures to obtain the list of all the injured.

Then they started cross-referencing the list with the deceased.

Cecilia didn't know how she managed to keep going; her hands were trembling as she flipped through the register.

She was terrified of seeing Alaric's name.

Fortunately, it wasn't there.

After a quick scan, she dared to go through the list again more carefully.

Still not there.

Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief and quickly told Cassius, "Alaric's name isn't on the list of the deceased."

Cassius nodded and said, "He's not listed among the critically injured either."

Cecilia then checked the list of those with minor injuries.

She went through it thoroughly and found no sign of him.

"Wait a minute," Cecilia said abruptly, closing the logbook only to reopen it a moment later.

Cassius turned to her, his expression questioning. "What's up?"

"Tom Yates," Cecilia replied. "He's Alaric's assistant. He was with him in Lindwood."

In other words, during the explosion, Alaric and his team were indeed at the factory.

Cecilia's face visibly paled.

Cassius immediately turned on his heel and strode toward Tom's hospital room.

Cecilia hurried to follow.

The ward had been overrun with patients due to the explosion. Each room was packed with three people.

When they arrived, there were still police officers stationed outside.

One of the officers stopped them. "What are you doing here?"

"We're family of the patient, Tom Yates. We'd like to see him," Cassius responded quickly.

"Tom?" The officer seemed to recall. "Perfect timing. He's about to be transferred to another room. If you're family, you can help with the move."

"Why is he being transferred?" Cecilia asked, puzzled.

"Just do as you're told. Don't ask so many questions," the officer replied curtly.

Cecilia pressed her lips together, deciding against further confrontation. But it was clear she sensed something was amiss.

They followed the medical staff as Tom was wheeled into a private room.

Tom, recognizing Cecilia, immediately spoke up. "Ms. Lockhart, Mr. Whitaker went after the drug lord on his own!"

"What?!" Cecilia's mind was buzzing.

She thought, 'A drug lord? Where does that come from?!'

Tom hurried to explain, "We came to Lindwood for a tour, and as we were about to leave, we noticed something was off with the local fireworks factory. After some digging, we discovered that the factory wasn't just making fireworks—it was a drug trafficking hub. Mr. Whitaker wanted to expose it, but when he tried to get evidence, he was spotted. To cover their tracks, they blew up the whole place. I escaped with Mr. Whitaker and was taken to the hospital, but he told me to wait for the ambulance while he went to drive himself. Now he's gone dark!"

Cecilia's face went ashen.

"The police just checked and isolated me from everyone else because I'm not a factory worker, which means everyone else sent to the hospital is part of the criminal gang. The leader got away, and Mr. Whitaker went after him!" Tom added.

She thought, 'Is Alaric out of his mind?!

'Doesn't he know that drug lords are dangerous lunatics?!'
