Chapter 474 The Game (19) Turmoil Rises Again
After Atticus laid down the new job rules, Dashiell just up and left.
Meanwhile, Seraphina and Sebastian were fuming as they watched him go.
Seraphina was ticked off by Dashiell's cold shoulder.
Sebastian? He was mad 'cause Dashiell swooped in and stole his spotlight and power the moment he joined the company.
He was losing it!
"Sebastian," Seraphina called out.
Sebastian quickly masked his anger and said, "We still gotta follow Mr. Everhart to meet the Kingsley Group representatives later. Let's head back to the office first."
"Alright," Seraphina agreed, but couldn't help adding, "Don't you feel pissed off?"
Sebastian shrugged, "For me, it's just about doing my job for Everhart Bank. As long as I do my part, nothing else really matters."
"When Atticus retires, I'll snag the chairman's spot. By then, I won't let you feel this way," Seraphina said with determination.
Sebastian gave her a gentle pat on the head. "Seriously, don't worry about me. I'm good. Just being with you is enough."
"Okay," Seraphina nodded, but sighed, "I never thought Dashiell had such big plans. I'm disappointed in the person he's become."
Sebastian replied, "Maybe some people are just good at hiding their true colors."
Seraphina shot him a look.
Sebastian knew he had to tread carefully. Badmouthing Dashiell too much might make Seraphina suspicious.
He added, "Anyway, we just need to do our jobs and keep a clear conscience."
Seraphina nodded.
She couldn't shake the feeling that Sebastian had changed too.
But maybe it was just her imagination.
At 3 PM
Dominic rolled up to Everhart Bank with Penelope and two bigwigs from Kingsley Group.
Atticus, along with Sebastian, Dashiell, and Seraphina, welcomed them in the conference room.
After some small talk, Dominic said, "Mr. Everhart, we're really sorry for Nathaniel's shady actions against your bank. It caused you a lot of trouble, and we're here to make things right."
"We get it," Atticus replied politely. "This affects everyone at Everhart Bank, so we have to handle it officially. Hope you understand."
"Of course. It's our bad," Dominic said. "Here's the amount we owe, including interest. Please, Mr. Everhart, take a look."
Atticus took the check.
After checking the amount, he nodded and was about to confirm when there was a knock on the door.
Atticus frowned a bit.
Dashiell signaled for someone to open the door.
The door swung open.
Cecilia walked in with Pierce and Rose.
Dominic's face went pale at the sight of Cecilia.
Cecilia, always showing up at the worst times.
He kept his face blank.
Cecilia said, "Sorry to barge in. Please forgive me, Mr. Everhart and Mr. Kingsley."
"Cecilia, is it urgent?" Atticus asked politely.
Seraphina lit up when she saw Cecilia walk in.
She gave a playful wink, trying to say hi.
But Cecilia didn't even look her way, which left Seraphina a bit miffed.
Cecilia strolled over and said straight up, "I heard the Kingsley Group is here to settle their debt with Everhart Bank."
"Yep," Atticus replied. "Here's their check. Got any questions, Cecilia?"
"Nope, paying debts is fair," Cecilia smiled and took a seat. "But I wanted to ask Mr. Kingsley if he plans to pay back the two billion dollars he owes the Lockhart Group."
Dominic's face went dark.
They hadn't even thought about that two billion.
They figured it was a gift from the Lockhart Family.
Even though they had an IOU, they didn't take it seriously.
After all, they thought Dominic and Cecilia were gonna tie the knot.
Everything from the Lockhart Family would be theirs, including the two billion!
Even though the wedding never happened, they never gave it a second thought.
Now, Cecilia was bringing it up out of nowhere.
Penelope couldn't hold it in. She snapped at Cecilia, "Are you nuts? When did we owe you two billion? Have you lost it?"
Cecilia shot Penelope a sharp look that made her flinch.
Cecilia casually placed an IOU on the table. "Here's the IOU for the two billion the Kingsley Group borrowed. The due date was ten days ago. According to this, if you don't pay up, you'll have to hand over shares. I'm just here to remind you, Mr. Kingsley, your two billion is due! If you don't pay, we'll take legal action to claim the shares."
"Cecilia!" Dominic was fuming, gritting his teeth.
At this crucial moment, Cecilia was pulling this stunt!
He glared at her, eyes blazing with anger.
Penelope looked at the IOU and tried to snatch it to tear it up.
Cecilia quickly pulled it away.
Penelope missed and glared daggers at Cecilia.
"Think tearing it up will make the debt disappear?" Cecilia mocked. "I can sue you!"
"Cecilia, you bitch!" Penelope couldn't hold back and cursed.
"Shut up! You're the bitch!" Seraphina couldn't stand it and yelled back at Penelope.
"Seraphina, you slut!" Penelope fired back.
"That's it! How dare you act tough on my turf! I'll mess you up!" Seraphina said, ready to throw down.
Dashiell, standing next to Seraphina, grabbed her arm.
Seraphina's face twisted in anger. "Dashiell, let go of me."
Dashiell held firm and said, "Calm down."
"Let go!" Seraphina shouted.
Dashiell didn't budge.
Seraphina snapped, "Cecilia's your friend, right? She's getting cursed out, and you're siding with Penelope. Dashiell, do you have any conscience left? You're ditching your friend for Penelope!"
