Chapter 292 I Strive to Be a Good Person
Finally, Seraphina still picked up the phone and called Atticus.
"Have you decided?" Atticus asked.
His tone was indifferent, as if he didn't really care.
Seraphina took a deep breath and said, "Okay, I'll start working at the company tomorrow."
Atticus, on the other end, was obviously a bit excited.
But he tried to remain calm, saying, "Report to the Human Resources Department tomorrow."
"What about my salary?" Seraphina asked bluntly.
"Two thousand dollars a month," Atticus replied.
"Then I might as well not work!" Seraphina was so angry she almost exploded on the spot.
"In addition to the salary, the limit on all your current cards will remain the same as before," Atticus added.
It meant she would still have all her money, plus an extra two thousand dollars.
As long as she obediently went to work.
Thinking about it this way, Seraphina felt a bit better.
"No more problems?" Atticus asked.
"No problem, but you'd better not have too many expectations of me. I can't do anything but play." Seraphina said.
"I'll arrange for someone to teach you." Atticus said.
"That depends on whether I want to learn or not," Seraphina said disdainfully.
"If your work is really bad, according to company regulations, I can fire you. Once you're fired, your benefits will be the same as now—no salary, all cards frozen."
He actually threatened her.
The key was that Atticus's threat was genuinely effective on her.
She had already made up her mind to just bide her time at the company, waiting for the end.
"Company hours start at nine in the morning. Don't be late on your first day." Atticus reminded.
"Got it," Seraphina said impatiently. "Can you unfreeze my cards now?"
"I'll unfreeze them when you start working." Atticus uttered.
"Do you have to be like this?" Seraphina asked.
"If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now." Atticus responded.
And then Atticus really hung up!
He was still so indifferent!
Seraphina was so angry she almost smashed her phone!
Ever since she married Dashiell and Atticus divorced Magnolia, the whole world had been targeting her.
Cecilia received a call from Atticus.
He was grateful to her because Seraphina had agreed to go to work at the company.
Cecilia exchanged a few polite words.
Starting work was just the first step.
Whether Seraphina would take her job seriously was a long way to go.
"You've been ignoring me all day," Alaric said, sitting on the couch, staring straight at Cecilia, with a clear smile.
"Aren't you going to spend time with your family?" Cecilia put down her phone and looked at Alaric.
Alaric frowned slightly; he seemed not to know what Cecilia was talking about.
"Cassius," Cecilia said. "Aren't you trying to balance family relationships? Don't you need to play games with him?"
Alaric was clearly speechless.
He stretched out his arm and directly pulled Cecilia into his embrace.
His strength was a bit too much.
Cecilia even felt she didn't have time to resist before she was already nestled in his arms.
"Not him," Alaric said, holding Cecilia tightly, his chin resting on the top of her head.
Their posture was clearly very intimate.
Cecilia thought, 'Not Cassius? Then who?'
"You'll meet them in the future." Alaric added.
"Male or female?" Cecilia asked.
"Ms. Lockhart, do you care about that?" Alaric questioned.
"I don't care. I just want to clarify your sexual orientation." Cecilia explained.
"Clarifying my sexual orientation doesn't need someone else; you can do it." As he spoke, Alaric's body clearly started to stir.
"Alaric!" exclaimed Cecilia.
She thought, 'Do men always think about sex?'
"It is you who was teasing me." Alaric uttered.
Cecilia thought, 'Which of my words teased him?'
Just as Cecilia was about to retort.
Alaric had already pressed her down on the couch and started kissing her. Cecilia couldn't make any sound.
George had come over to call them for dinner.
But what he stumbled upon was anything but appropriate.
It was so awkward that his face turned red.
At that moment, Cecilia noticed George too.
She hurriedly pushed Alaric away with all her strength.
Alaric smiled slightly.
He released Cecilia.
He was afraid of losing control.
Every time, he only wanted to tease her.
And every time, it ended up being his own suffering.
He got up from Cecilia.
Her face was flushed bright red.
George quickly said, "It's okay if you don't finish now. You can continue later."
Cecilia thought, 'Who wants to continue?!
'If I do, I'll lose my virtue.'
Cecilia scrambled off the sofa and ran towards the dinner table.
Clearly, she was fleeing.
Alaric couldn't help but touch his lips.
He was feeling an itch that wouldn't go away.
He sat down opposite Cecilia at the dinner table.
He didn't even know when it had become so natural for them to live under the same roof.
"Next week, the campaign for the election starts," Alaric suddenly said.
Cecilia paused. "The promotion? To become the Chief of Staff?
"You'll be giving speeches all over, right?"
In the Yakurosean Empire, promotions were determined by voting.
For someone like Alaric, running for the Chief of Staff in Serenovia City meant he'd need to campaign across the city, giving speeches to the public.
"Tomorrow, my team and I will start planning where to campaign," he said.
"And the other candidates?"
"Just Dominic and me."
Cecilia frowned.
"Others knew they had no chance and, fearing to offend either Dominic or me, decided not to run."
Cecilia nodded.
It made sense.
Aside from Dominic and Alaric, no one else was really qualified.
She asked, "Is there anything you need help with?"
"Not for now. But I might be quite busy during this period, so I won't have time to be with you."
"That's fine." It was better if he wasn't around.
Otherwise, she'd end up at a disadvantage.
"Let's eat," Alaric reminded.
Cecilia nodded silently.
At that moment, she couldn't help but add, "Don't let Dominic outshine you."
"Do you doubt me?" Alaric's expression shifted slightly.
"Dominic is devious and cunning."
"So you think I'm a good person?" Alaric smirked.
Cecilia was taken aback.
Then she relaxed.
If Alaric were really a good person, he'd have been destroyed by Dominic countless times in the past.
"I'm trying to be a good person," Alaric suddenly said.
It sounded almost like a promise.
Cecilia was reminded of what Alaric had said to her in her past life.
He'd told her he wasn't a good person.
Now, he was saying he was trying to be one.
Her heart was stirred.
She thought, 'Is Alaric changing for me?!
'What exactly did Alaric mean by not a good person?'
"If I win the election this time, how about you offering yourself as a reward, Ms. Lockhart?" Alaric asked.
Cecilia snapped out of her thoughts, looking somewhat exasperated. "We agreed on waiting until you're in a more prestigious position, didn't we?"
"Isn't the Chief of Staff position already prestigious enough?"
"When did your standards drop so low?!" Cecilia was almost speechless.
She thought, 'It should at least be a Ministerial position!'
