Chapter 393 Vivienne's Plea for Mercy
Cecilia strolled into the Lockhart Old Mansion with Augustus by her side.
With Augustus around, Cecilia felt invincible.
She wondered if Alaric had had anticipated that she would often be going it alone and would need an assistant when he assigned Augustus to her in the first place.
As soon as Cecilia stepped in, she heard Vivienne's gut-wrenching sobs.
When Vincent got locked up, she hadn't been this torn up.
It was clear Andrew meant more to her.
The second Cecilia showed up, Vivienne clammed up.
With eyes full of tears, she looked at Cecilia, all pitiful.
Cecilia didn't even give Vivienne a glance, instead turning straight to her parents.
Theodore waved her over. "Cecilia, come sit."
Cecilia nodded and plopped down next to him, with Augustus standing guard behind her.
"Alright, what exactly did you come to us for today? Just crying won't solve anything," Theodore said.
Vivienne, still sniffling, helped Ophelia to the couch.
She said, "I just went to see Andrew. I know he messed up, and it's really hit our family hard. I never thought he'd be so dumb. When Vincent got locked up, I kept telling him to behave and listen to you. I didn't expect him to be seduced by that witch Eloise!"
As she spoke, Vivienne seemed both pissed and heartbroken, tears streaming down her face.
Vivienne's acting skills weren't built overnight.
"If it weren't for that vixen Eloise, Andrew wouldn't have been dumb enough to steal the company's business plans. He's not smart enough to pull off something like that." Vivienne cried out, "When I saw him, he knew he messed up. He said he'd listen to Theodore from now on. With Vincent in prison, you are like a dad to him. He promised to behave. I hope you can forgive Andrew this once. If he screws up again, I swear I'll beat him myself!"
To show she meant business, Vivienne dropped to her knees from the couch.
Cecilia pursed her lips.
A mom, no matter how messed up, would do anything for her kid.
Having seen all the nasty stuff this family did in her past life, she was numb to their antics now. But she knew her parents would go soft.
They didn't know everything that went down in her past life. If they treated Vivienne harshly now, they'd feel guilty.
This move by Andrew was the smartest thing he'd ever done.
If he'd been this smart earlier, he wouldn't have ended up so badly.
Cecilia stayed quiet.
Given how things had played out, she decided to respect her parents' choice.
After all, even if Andrew got out of jail in a year or so, it wouldn't really affect her. It was just a matter of him not getting the outcome she wanted!
"Theodore, Genevieve. I know I've been a real piece of work, and yeah, I've talked smack about you behind your backs. I'm not a good person, I get that. Honestly, I was just jealous of how tight you two are, while Vincent and I were a mess. You know Vincent's got a mistress, and Juliana's his love child. I've put up with it for years, so yeah, I was jealous. Genevieve, I did a lot of crappy things to you, and I know I was wrong! Can you forgive me, please?" Vivienne really swallowed her pride.
She knelt and crawled towards Genevieve, grabbing her hands, begging for forgiveness.
Genevieve was a softie.
But right then, she still turned to look at Cecilia.
Genevieve had gotten used to leaning on her.
Cecilia felt Genevieve's eyes on her and said, "Mom, it's up to you."
She didn't want her parents to feel guilty.
Besides, if her parents were truly heartless, how would they be any different from Vincent and Vivienne?
With Cecilia's go-ahead, Genevieve said, "The past is the past. I didn't hold onto it. You don't need to kneel, get up."
"No, I won't get up," Vivienne quickly said, "With all the crap I've done, I don't deserve to get up."
"Alright, it's all in the past now, come on." Genevieve pulled her up.
But Vivienne didn't budge and said, "Let me kneel for a bit. It makes me feel better."
Genevieve held back and didn't push it.
Vivienne then turned to Theodore, pleading, "Theodore, please forgive Andrew. I know he messed up big time, but he really gets it now. He'll change, I swear."
Theodore was actually a softie too, but thinking about how serious Andrew's screw-up was, he hesitated.
Vivienne quickly played the sympathy card. "My daughter is dead, my husband's locked up, and if my son goes too... I'll have nothing left. I know I should face all this, but..."
Vivienne cried even harder.
At that moment, she pulled Ophelia, who had been quiet on the couch.
Cecilia was surprised.
Why was Vivienne the only one putting on a show today?
Ophelia hadn't said a word.
Knowing that Ophelia's words carried weight, she started to seek her help.
Ophelia glanced at Vivienne, then shifted her gaze to Theodore and Genevieve.
Theodore felt a bit more compassionate towards Ophelia.
Or maybe, he had been waiting for Ophelia to speak.
Once Ophelia spoke up for Andrew, he would definitely agree to help.
Not necessarily to get Andrew off scot-free, but to maybe get a lighter sentence, maybe even probation, so Andrew wouldn't have to go to prison but would have a record.
Theodore looked at Ophelia.
They hadn't seen each other for a long time because of their issues.
Facing each other suddenly, they both seemed a bit awkward.
