Chapter 22 Alaric's Confession

"Why is Alaric there too?" Seraphina was obviously surprised.
Not only Seraphina but Cecilia was also puzzled.
Before they could think deeply, the staff brought in the Crown that Cecilia had previously ordered.
Embedded in the Crown was the blue gemstone that Alaric had spent a lot of money to acquire, shining even more brilliantly now against the backdrop of other transparent diamonds.
"Oh my, this is so beautiful!" Seraphina was captivated by the Crown in front of her.
Cecilia was also amazed. Although this Crown was designed by her and should have been as beautiful as imagined, seeing the actual piece now exceeded her expectations.
"I always thought this blue gemstone was pretty, but I didn't expect it to be this stunning." Seraphina was almost moved to tears by its beauty. "When do you plan to wear it? Don't tell me it's on your wedding day."
"No, I'm giving this to my mom. It's her birthday tomorrow," Cecilia replied.
That was why she mentioned that Alaric had already given a birthday gift.
"Oh, Mrs. Lockhart's birthday is tomorrow." Seraphina remembered. "She usually dresses so modestly; she will surely astonish everyone tomorrow."
"Of course." Cecilia thought about the party tomorrow and couldn't help but smile. She could completely imagine how dazzling her mother would be tomorrow.
"Wow, Mr. Whitaker looks so handsome!" A faint exclamation suddenly came from the VIP reception room.
Cecilia and Seraphina were drawn to the sound.
They turned to look at the shop assistant standing on the side, who was now mesmerized by the screen.
Perhaps she was so engrossed that she forgot she was still working.
"Hey," another shop assistant deliberately reminded her.
She then quickly regained her composure and apologized, "I'm sorry. It's just that Mr. Whitaker is really handsome; I'm truly sorry."
"He is indeed quite handsome." Seraphina shifted her gaze to the TV screen and engaged in conversation with the shop assistant.
"Previously, the rumors about him were all about frivolity and womanizing. Now suddenly seeing him in a suit, standing elegantly on the podium speaking so seriously, completely overturns all my preconceptions about him," the shop assistant expressed her emotions hastily.
"I never thought this jerk had such talent. Is he still Alaric?" Seraphina wondered And asked, "Cecilia, what do you think?"
Cecilia's gaze remained on the Crown as she carefully examined it for any flaws. She couldn't afford to be careless about anything concerning someone important to her.
When Seraphina called her, she responded, "Perhaps he just treats it as a game."
Seraphina thought Cecilia made a valid point. Alaric didn't seem like someone seriously transitioning into politics. His actions today might just be a sudden whim to play around.
Just as Seraphina was thinking this, Alaric began on the TV. "Regarding my candidacy today, I guess many people might think I'm just here to play around, and it's undeniable that my reputation hasn't been great in the past. However, I can responsibly tell everyone that I take this election very seriously and have prepared for it for a long time. As for why I've undergone such a significant change..."
Everyone was eagerly anticipating Alaric's speech.
Whether it was his captivating voice or his handsome appearance, there was a certain charm that made everyone completely engrossed.
Even someone as easily distracted as Seraphina was deeply fascinated.
Not to mention the shop assistant who was previously entranced; she probably forgot she was still working.
At first, Cecilia really didn't want to focus her attention on Alaric.
She had seen Alaric in his current state before. She had seen him in a well-fitted suit, looking mature and dignified, so it wasn't surprising.
Yet, it was the suspense in his words that made her look up and gaze at him on the screen.
Alaric said, "I've undergone such a significant change because I met an important person in my life, who has influenced me and made me want to become better."
As he spoke, his eyes suddenly met a camera. The lens shifted to capture his face directly.
Alaric's handsome face was enlarged on the TV screen. Even in the unfiltered live broadcast, his skin was enviable.
He gazed ahead. It seemed as though he was making eye contact with the person in front of the television screen.
Cecilia had to admit, she was drawn in by Alaric's deep gaze and couldn't look away. It felt as if he were looking at her.
He paused for several seconds before continuing, "You should know, I'm referring to you."
Cecilia's heart raced, beating strongly.
At that moment, it almost felt as if Alaric weren't in front of the TV, but right in front of her. Otherwise, how could it feel so real? How could it feel so real as if he were truly speaking to her?
The person he mentioned was Cecilia.
"OMG! Is Alaric confessing to me?" Seraphina suddenly exclaimed. She wasn't the only one with this misconception.
Probably all the women watching him on TV at that moment felt like he was confessing to them.
Cecilia suddenly snapped out of it.
The camera had already switched, showing Alaric in full view on the screen, having finished his speech, bowing deeply with his tall and robust figure, and then leaving the podium.
Applause erupted in the room. It was a sign of approval for his speech.
Cecilia refocused her attention and overheard Seraphina whisper. "Now I finally understand why Alaric has so many women after him. Even someone like me, who grew up surrounded by handsome men, is tempted by him, let alone those ordinary women. He's truly a seductive devil!"
"I wonder who the important person in Mr. Whitaker's life is? Could it be that Mr. Whitaker has found love and is willing to remain faithful to that woman, even striving to become better for her?" the shop assistant asked with a hint of envy.
"There is no such woman," Cecilia replied indifferently. "He was just to make people believe that he's serious about this. Otherwise, who would believe that he suddenly changed for the better?"
"Is Ms. Lockhart suggesting that this is a cover-up by Mr. Whitaker to make people believe him?" the shop assistant quickly inquired.
"That's my guess," Cecilia said calmly.
"Really?" The shop assistant seemed skeptical.
It was Seraphina who suddenly became very serious, staring at Cecilia intently.
Cecilia found the staring unsettling. "Are you having a twitch in your eye?" She frowned.
"Why do I suddenly feel like Alaric isn't lying?" Seraphina locked eyes with Cecilia, examining her closely.
Cecilia looked away.
"On second thought, he bought you the gem and agreed on the elopement..."
"Dominic has started his speech," Cecilia interrupted Seraphina abruptly.
Seraphina pondered for a moment. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more between Alaric and Cecilia. ‘It’s definitely not a simple relationship. Could it be that, unbeknownst to me, they have already... started dating?’
