Chapter 583 Competition (5) Handling Accidents

Dashiell barged into Atticus's office, already knowing what was up.

The biggest branch of Everhart Bank in Serenovia City was facing a full-blown protest. Customers were waving banners, accusing the bank of using their deposits to make shady profits without giving them their fair share. The media had already pounced on the story, and by the time Dashiell got there, it was all over the news.

Atticus looked like he was about to explode.

This mess couldn't have come at a worse time. Everhart Bank was already in hot water, and losing the public's trust now would be a disaster. It would give Unity World Bank the perfect opening to swoop in.

Just today, Atticus had stressed in a meeting that if Unity World Bank's first attempt flopped, they'd have a hard time making it in the Yakurosean Empire. But now, Everhart Bank was shooting itself in the foot.

Dashiell glanced at the news on his phone, quickly grasping the situation. Things were looking pretty grim.

He put his phone down and asked, "Who was handling this project before?"

To fix a problem, he gotta know where it started.

Atticus, still fuming, replied, "I don't personally review every single project. If a project doesn't need my direct oversight and everything seems fine, I don't get involved."

So, Atticus had no clue who was in charge of this project or if the promises made to customers matched the final outcome.

Dashiell, staying cooler than Atticus, said, "Let's find out. We need to fix this mess ASAP, or it's gonna trash our reputation. If Unity World Bank stirs up more trouble, we're in deep."

Atticus knew this too, which was why he looked so pissed.

He had his secretary dig into the storage project and found out that Sean Gray from marketing was in charge.

Sean was hauled into Atticus's office, looking scared out of his mind. He nervously handed over all the project documents and carefully checked if their promises matched what they delivered.

After double-checking everything, they found that the agreements and promises were all legit.

There was no shady profit-making like the protesters claimed.

Dashiell frowned. This was a dividend project from two years ago. Why was it blowing up now with bogus accusations?

"What the hell is going on?" Atticus's face got even darker. "We followed the contract! How could this protest happen?"

"It's gotta be deliberate," Dashiell said.

He added, "The worse our reputation gets, the better it is for Unity World Bank to make their move."

Atticus looked at Dashiell and said, "But this is all made up."

Dashiell replied, "Even if we clear our name, the public might not buy it. Public opinion can hit a company harder than you think. That's probably their game plan."

"I can't believe Unity World Bank would stoop so low. It's disgusting!" Atticus fumed.

"It might not be Unity World Bank," Dashiell said, a hint of suspicion in his voice.

Atticus shot him a questioning look.

Dashiell continued, "Unity World Bank wouldn't know our operations this well. How would they even know about a minor savings project like this? And how could they target our customers? We guard their privacy fiercely. An outsider couldn't find a loophole and stir up this much trouble so quickly. It has to be an inside job."

Atticus's face darkened even more. His earlier anger flared up again.

He slammed his hand on the desk. "Who the hell would dare betray us like this? If I find out, they're done for!"

Dashiell stayed silent. He wasn't about to point fingers without proof.

"So, what now? Can we figure this out?" Atticus asked.

Dashiell replied, "Remember this morning when I mentioned that Unity World Bank's move into the Yakurosean Empire could be due to market competition or sabotage? It's looking more like sabotage."

"You think someone inside is helping Unity World Bank?" Atticus's unease grew.

"That's a possibility," Dashiell said.

"Damn it!" Atticus cursed.

Dashiell couldn't help but think that Seraphina must've picked up her swearing habit from Atticus.

"Who the hell is behind this?" Atticus raged.

"We'll find out," Dashiell said calmly. "Right now, we need to deal with the protest."

Atticus asked, "Didn't you say fixing it would still hurt our reputation?"

"Not fixing it would be worse," Dashiell said after a moment. "I'll go check out the scene."

"Alright," Atticus agreed.

Dashiell didn't waste any time and left the office.

He called his secretary to arrange a car and headed back to his office to grab his laptop.

Just as he got there, he remembered he'd left it in the conference room. As he was about to head there, he saw Seraphina at the door, holding his laptop.

Seraphina looked pissed.

How could Dashiell leave her alone in the conference room, facing all those awkward stares?

She had no idea how she managed to get through reading his work assignments. She felt humiliated in front of everyone today.

Just as she was about to blow up, Dashiell ordered coldly, "Bring my laptop and come with me."

Without waiting for her response, he strode off.

Seraphina stood there, stunned for a moment.

Did Dashiell have to be so bossy?

Couldn't he at least ask her opinion?

But she followed him anyway.

Dashiell walked so fast, she struggled to keep up.

By the time she got into his car, she was out of breath.

She was panting heavily, cursing Dashiell in her mind with every word she could think of.

Dashiell really thought he was something just because he had long legs!

"Remember to sit in the front passenger seat during work hours," Dashiell ordered coldly.
