Chapter 507 Dashiell's Threat to Sebastian
Seraphina trailed behind Sebastian as they headed back to the car.
Inside, it was pretty quiet.
Seraphina wasn't usually this quiet.
Sebastian drove, wanting to say something but deciding to keep his mouth shut.
Things between him and Seraphina were kinda awkward now.
He was also worried that Seraphina would question him about why he didn't want to make love to her.
So, he mostly kept quiet.
While cruising down the highway, Sebastian's phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and connected it to Bluetooth.
"This is Dashiell. When you get to the office, come see me."
Sebastian's face tightened a bit.
He always hated that Dashiell was his boss.
"Okay," he replied.
The call ended.
Seraphina noticed the change in his expression and asked, "What's up?"
"Dashiell wants me in his office when I get back."
"For what?" Seraphina asked.
"He didn't say," Sebastian replied.
"Are you taking me home now?" Seraphina looked at the direction they were heading.
"I'll drop you off first."
"No need, I'm feeling better. Let's go to the office first," Seraphina said firmly.
Sebastian glanced at her.
She seemed pretty calm, explaining, "I don't want to mess up your work, and Atticus doesn't believe I'm sick. I need to show him that I just had an IV drip."
"Alright." Sebastian nodded.
His emotions were all over the place.
He knew Seraphina's feelings for Dashiell were changing bit by bit.
And he wasn't gonna let that happen.
He drove on, keeping his face blank.
They pulled up at Everhart Bank.
Seraphina headed to Atticus's office, and Sebastian went straight to Dashiell's.
Sebastian pushed the door open and walked in.
Dashiell was at his desk, working.
Sebastian always thought he was the hardest worker in the company, admired for his skills and dedication. But since Dashiell showed up, people started admiring him instead.
He knew Dashiell was doing it on purpose, stealing everyone's goodwill.
Sebastian sat down across from Dashiell. "Mr. Rainier."
Dashiell nodded, fingers flying over the keyboard.
Sebastian had to admit, he was impressed by Dashiell's typing speed.
If he hadn't seen it himself, he wouldn't believe anyone could type that fast.
He pretended not to notice and just waited.
After finishing up, Dashiell closed his laptop and got straight to the point. "I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. We gave you a lot to make you leave Seraphina. Money, assets, you name it. But now that you're back with her, you need to return the twenty percent shares."
Sebastian smirked and glared at Dashiell. "You're really something else."
"This is called a fair trade," Dashiell said coldly.
"Fair trade? Since when do you take back gifts? Is that fair?" Sebastian shot back.
"You know the conditions for those shares," Dashiell said, not backing down.
Sebastian's face darkened.
"Last night, Seraphina came to my place," Dashiell said, not giving a damn about Sebastian's feelings.
Sebastian clenched his fists, trying to keep his cool.
"Sure, she was drunk and ended up at the wrong house. But that doesn't change the fact that it messes with your relationship," Dashiell continued, unfazed. "If you're holding off on making love to Seraphina because of those shares, your relationship's doomed."
"Don't you have feelings for Seraphina?" Sebastian shot back instead of answering.
Dashiell raised an eyebrow. "Just get to the point. No need to waste time."
"If you like her, why push her to be with me?" Sebastian didn't mince words. "You're just like everyone else, obsessed with the Everhart Family's wealth."
Dashiell didn't deny it.
He nodded. "Yeah. I thought getting Seraphina would mean getting Everhart Bank. But she let me down, so I found another way. Now, let me be clear, Everhart Bank will be mine. Whether you and Seraphina can take it from me is up to you."
"You're overestimating yourself. Do you really think Atticus will throw away his principles because of your mom? Ridiculous! In the end, everything will still belong to Seraphina," Sebastian said through gritted teeth.
"No one knows the outcome until the end," Dashiell shot back. "I called you here to discuss the shares. Think it over and come find me. You can go now."
Sebastian's face was grim.
He stood up, ready to leave.
He paused. "Dashiell, do you really have no feelings for Seraphina?"
"None," Dashiell said firmly.
Sebastian studied his face but couldn't read a thing!
He'd always looked down on Dashiell, thinking he was a nobody.
Now it seemed Dashiell was anything but simple!
On Tuesday, Cecilia was feeling a bit down.
Alaric was leaving early tomorrow morning.
Their time together always felt too short, while the separation seemed endless.
At the Lockhart Group, Cecilia called Alaric.
"Hey, honey," Alaric's voice was smooth and natural.
Cecilia was used to it by now, her face no longer blushing.
"Will you be working late tonight?" Cecilia asked.
"No," he replied. "But there's a department dinner. I'll try to come back early."
"Okay." Cecilia was clearly disappointed.
With Alaric leaving tomorrow, she wanted to spend a nice evening together.
She wouldn't be working late, but Alaric had a dinner.
"My flight's at 10 AM tomorrow. I can still drop you off at work before heading to the airport," Alaric said, clearly sensing Cecilia's disappointment.
So, he wouldn't leave before she woke up.
She was curious and asked, "Why's your flight so late this time?"
"Because I can't bear to leave you."
"So, you were okay with leaving me early before?" Cecilia teased.
"No." Alaric hesitated. "You'll understand someday."
She hated when guys were vague.
Cecilia thought Alaric was just making excuses and never considered he might have real reasons.
