Chapter 230 The Wedding (2) Satirizing Penelope

The next morning, Seraphina planned to sleep until 11 AM and get to the wedding venue by noon. But she got woken up at 7 AM and was totally wrecked. She hadn't slept at all the night before, tossing and turning, and just when she finally dozed off, she got woken up again.

Seraphina wouldn't have budged if Cecilia hadn't come to the villa to drag her out of bed. Cecilia made her sit in front of the dressing table, and a team started getting her into her wedding dress and doing her makeup.

"Cecilia, why'd you wake me up so early?" Seraphina grumbled. She figured she could sleep till 11, get dressed, put on some makeup, and head to the venue.

"Stop whining, it's your big day," Cecilia said.

"No, it's not. I'm planning on a second marriage," Seraphina shot back.

Cecilia was speechless, and even the makeup artists chuckled. Most brides dreamt of a lifelong partner, but Seraphina was different. Despite her complaints, she didn't put up much of a fight.

Three hours later, Seraphina's bridal look was complete. She wore a white wedding dress with a heart-shaped cutout on the back, showing off her slender figure. A diamond crown sparkled on her head, making her look like a fairy-tale princess—elegant, graceful, and pure. Cecilia was pleased with her custom design, but Seraphina wasn't thrilled.

"Ms. Everhart, are you not happy with the makeup?" one of the staff asked nervously, seeing her dark expression.

"Nope," Seraphina said, "It's too beautiful. I can't handle it."

The staff was confused, and Cecilia rolled her eyes. "You're all set. Let's go to the venue."

"Do I have to?" Seraphina whined.

"Quitting halfway isn't your style," Cecilia teased.

Seraphina gritted her teeth. At this point, she didn't care about style or decency. She got into the car and headed to the wedding venue.

The venue was a golf course at a resort outside Serenovia City. By the time Seraphina arrived, it was fully decorated with a stage, white tables and chairs, a live orchestra, pink and white balloons, and a small castle made of drapes. It looked warm and romantic.

Seraphina went straight to the backstage dressing room, taking a quick look at the venue from the car. Her face fell. She had wanted a simple wedding, so why all the fuss?

Feeling gloomy, she walked into the dressing room with Cecilia by her side. Cecilia wanted to be there for her and also to make sure Seraphina didn't cause any trouble. When Seraphina got upset, she could be unpredictable.

"Why'd we come so early? It's boring," Seraphina complained. "I'm gonna play a game." She reached for her phone.

Cecilia snatched Seraphina's phone away.

"Cecilia," Seraphina grumbled, clearly annoyed.

"Who plays games at their wedding? Grow up," Cecilia scolded.

"If I weren't mature, I'd have eloped by now," Seraphina shot back.

"Then go ahead and elope," Cecilia challenged.

"Are you really my best friend?" Seraphina asked, exasperated.

"If you don't dare, then just lie down and enjoy it," Cecilia said firmly, leaving no room for argument.

'Enjoy it? Not jumping off a cliff is already a win,' Seraphina thought.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Cecilia opened it to find Penelope standing there.

Penelope wore a white tulle dress with a strapless design and a deep V-neck, looking like she was trying to outshine the bride. She walked in without waiting for an invitation, her expression full of disdain.

"You said you didn't like Dashiell, right?" Penelope accused.

"Do I need to explain my feelings to you?" Seraphina snapped.

"If you don't like him, why are you marrying him? Don't you love Sebastian? Did he cheat on you and dump you, so now you're clinging to Dashiell?" Penelope taunted.

"What did you grow up eating?" Seraphina interrupted. "Your breath stinks!"

"Seraphina!" Penelope fumed.

"You're the one who cheated!" Seraphina retorted. "Sebastian is perfect. Say one more bad word about him, and I'll tear your mouth apart!"

Penelope trembled with anger. "If Sebastian is so great, why are you marrying Dashiell? Are you crazy?"

"I'm not crazy, Dashiell is. If you can seduce him and he agrees to marry you, I'll step aside," Seraphina challenged.

"You!" Penelope was livid, wanting to strangle Seraphina. She couldn't understand how Dashiell and Seraphina, who seemed so incompatible, ended up together. When she found out about the wedding, she nearly fainted from rage. She always thought Dashiell would be hers.

"If you don't have the guts, don't flaunt yourself in front of me. I might look down on you," Seraphina added.

"Seraphina," Penelope seethed, "If you don't like Dashiell, why are you marrying him?"

"Revenge," Seraphina said slowly. "I hate two people most in this world: you and Dashiell. Marrying him lets me take revenge on both of you. Why wouldn't I do it?"

"Is marriage a game to you?" Penelope asked.

"Yes, life is a game to me. What can you do about it?" Seraphina replied.

Penelope raised her hand to strike, but Cecilia grabbed her and snapped, "If you dare slap Seraphina, you'll regret it."

Penelope stared at Cecilia, genuinely intimidated by her aura. She felt a chill run down her spine.
