Chapter 217 Terms of Exchange

"Can you stop talking like that?" Seraphina rolled her eyes. "Alaric, just say it. Do you have a problem with me? Don't pretend you don't. You always go against me. I watch reality shows, but you want the news. I watch dramas, but you want military tech! What did I do to offend you?"

Cecilia glanced at Alaric, then back at the TV. "Aren't they watching Animal Crossing?"

"Because we couldn't agree, so I picked something no one likes!"

Cecilia glanced at Alaric again.

Seraphina being childish was one thing.

But Alaric too?

"Alaric, what exactly do you dislike about me? You're my best friend's husband. Just say it, I won't get mad." Seraphina looked calm.

Alaric glanced at her. "Stupid."

Seraphina was stunned for a second, then furious.

She got up, ready to fight. "You're the stupid one! Alaric, you douchebag!"

Cecilia held Seraphina back, speechless.

"Cecilia, you're helping Alaric bully me? You're turning against me for a man?" Seraphina looked at Cecilia in disbelief.

Cecilia wanted to knock Seraphina out for talking too much.

She wasn't holding Seraphina back to help Alaric. Alaric still had a gunshot wound, and Seraphina's actions could make it worse.

"Alright, his IQ isn't that high either. Don't bother arguing with him," Cecilia tried to mediate.

Seraphina paused.

Alaric's face changed at Cecilia's words.

Seraphina laughed, "That's right, douchebags usually don't have high IQs."

Alaric's face darkened.

Fortunately, George came over to call them for lunch, preventing their fight from escalating.

Cecilia dragged Seraphina to the dining room.

Alaric got up from the couch.

Cecilia couldn't help but look back.

Alaric didn't seem like the type to judge others casually, unless provoked.

Seraphina couldn't have provoked him.

But she clearly provoked Dashiell.

'What's the deal between Alaric and Dashiell?' Cecilia thought.

At the dining table, Seraphina couldn't help but argue a few times.

Under Cecilia's gaze, Alaric didn't respond.

Although Seraphina was unhappy with Alaric, she had to admit, Cecilia really kept him in check.

Back when Cecilia was with Dominic, she seemed to live for someone else.

Now with Alaric, Cecilia was truly herself.

After lunch, Seraphina got a call from Atticus.

She didn't want to answer, but Cecilia forced her to.

Seraphina reluctantly answered, "What's wrong?"

"Come home, and we'll talk about you and Dashiell," Atticus said seriously.

"There's nothing to discuss. I will never marry Dashiell and return to the Everhart family. We're done!"

"Seraphina!" Atticus was clearly furious on the other end.

Cecilia quickly took Seraphina's phone. "Uncle Atticus, this is Cecilia. Seraphina's at my place. I'll bring her back soon."

Atticus sighed heavily. "Thank you, Cecilia."

"You're welcome, Uncle Atticus. We'll be back in half an hour."

"Alright, I'll wait."

After hanging up, Cecilia turned to Seraphina. "Let's go, I'll take you back."

"I'm not going back."

"You need to resolve this. Avoiding it won't help. Go see what your dad wants."

"I don't want to," Seraphina said stubbornly.

"Seraphina," Cecilia's face darkened, clearly angry.

Seraphina was a bit scared of Cecilia's anger. When Cecilia got mad, she usually obeyed. "Cecilia, I really don't want to marry Dashiell."

"I know. We're just going back to hear what your dad has to say. No matter what, he's still your family. He loves you the most in the world."

"No, he loves Magnolia the most," Seraphina retorted.

"If he loves Magnolia so much, why didn't he have another child with her?" Cecilia asked. "Isn't it because he didn't want to hurt you more?"

Seraphina pouted, speechless.

"No matter what, your dad would never harm you," Cecilia said. "Come on, let's go back."

Seraphina reluctantly followed Cecilia.

Alaric just watched them leave, sighing softly. He felt abandoned by Cecilia again.

Cecilia and Seraphina took Augustus's car to the Everhart villa. They walked into the hall where Atticus and Magnolia were waiting, looking tired.

Seraphina kept a sullen face, not speaking. But Cecilia politely greeted, "Atticus, Magnolia."

"Sit down, Cecilia," Atticus said, only greeting her.

Cecilia smiled slightly, pulling the stubborn Seraphina to sit on a couch.

After sitting down, Atticus spoke. "Early this morning, Magnolia and I went to the hospital to ask about Dashiell's leg injury. The doctor said the chances of his right leg fully recovering are very low. Dashiell is really crippled in one leg."

"I'll compensate him!" Seraphina said impulsively. "His right leg, right? I'll cut mine off and give it to him!"

"Calm down," Atticus scolded.

"Isn't that what you mean?" Seraphina mocked.

"How about you make an offer to marry Dashiell?" Magnolia said bluntly.

"No terms will make me..."

"Will you marry him if I divorce your dad?" Magnolia asked.

Magnolia's words surprised Seraphina. Cecilia couldn't help but feel sorry for Atticus and Magnolia. Everyone knew they were very much in love. Now, they were willing to divorce for Dashiell's happiness.

"I'll divorce your dad if you marry my son," Magnolia said seriously. "Is that condition acceptable?"
