Chapter 161 Rebecca Deals with Cecilia
Cecilia had been at Alaric's beck and call all night.
Eventually, she just went numb to it.
Whenever he moved, she'd sit up, ready for his next demand—whether it was water or a bathroom trip.
Then the morning alarm rang.
Cecilia dragged herself out of bed, feeling worse than death.
She felt like she hadn't slept a wink all night.
And now she had to go to work.
Meanwhile, Alaric, who'd tormented her, was sleeping like a baby.
At that moment, she really wanted to strangle him.
But as she got up, she was still careful not to wake him.
Alaric was a devil.
She despised him, yet she couldn't be harsh with him.
Filled with anger, Cecilia washed up, changed clothes, put on makeup, and left.
She closed the bedroom door as quietly as possible.
She went downstairs.
George had already made breakfast for her.
"Good morning, Mrs. Whitaker." George always treated her with respect.
"Good morning, George," Cecilia smiled slightly.
She sat at the table, eating breakfast and scrolling through the news on her phone.
Then something caught her eye.
#"Starlight Mall" is now in Serenovia City, aiming to create a high-end shopping district.#
With her market sense tingling, Cecilia clicked on the article.
Starlight Group used to run a nationwide supermarket chain, popular with regular folks. They'd never ventured into high-end markets or created commercial districts. They usually entered existing areas and dominated department store supermarkets. In all her years, Cecilia had never heard of Starlight Group planning their own commercial district.
Plus, she remembered the chairman's last name was Adams.
Cecilia quickly exited the news app and searched for Starlight Group.
[Chairman: Hubert Adams. His second daughter: Rebecca.]
Cecilia instantly got it.
She reopened the news app and checked the location of Rebecca's planned shopping district, which was near the Tower of Light subway station. This prime spot meant Starlight Group's new district had a clear advantage over the Tower of Light. With their established supermarket chain, crushing the struggling Tower of Light project would be easy.
Cecilia's face turned grim.
Rebecca was clearly out to get her.
She had to admire Rebecca a bit.
Rebecca didn't play dirty; she just went head-to-head with Cecilia.
Rebecca must be very confident.
Cecilia quickly finished her breakfast and rushed to the office.
Knowing someone was targeting her meant she had to change her strategies.
When she arrived, Rose was already waiting.
Rose quickly reported, "I just saw the news that Starlight Group is planning a shopping district near the Tower of Light. They're heavily advertising it, attracting a lot of business interest. If they succeed, all our foot traffic will go to them, making it tough for the Tower of Light to attract businesses."
Cecilia nodded.
She was well aware of this.
Rebecca's early promotion, even before construction, was a strategic move to keep the Tower of Light from attracting businesses. Businesspeople are driven by profit, and when a lucrative opportunity presents itself, close relationships often take a backseat.
Therfore, once the news of Starlight Mall's opening spread, businesses would hesitate between choosing the Tower of Light or Starlight Mall. With two commercial districts so close, strong competition was inevitable.
Consumers often exhibit herd mentality, flocking to places with larger crowds, creating a snowball effect of popularity. One place would become extremely popular, while the other would be deserted. If businesses chose the wrong one, they'd face huge losses. In such a situation, no one would dare to make a hasty decision.
Cecilia couldn't help but wonder if Rebecca knew about her bet with the company's higher-ups and was deliberately disrupting her plans. Regardless of whether Starlight Mall succeeded, just releasing the news could effectively hinder her efforts to attract businesses. In three or six months, when she was kicked out of the Lockhart Group, Rebecca might not even need to actually build Starlight Mall. Without spending effort or money, Rebecca could ruin her.
Cecilia let out a cold laugh.
Rebecca's plan was quite clever.
Cecilia's eyes shifted. "No matter what the Starlight Group does, tell Diana, Michael, and Randy to proceed as planned."
"Yes."
Rose left.
Cecilia sat in her office chair, not as confident as she had told Rose.
After all, her time was limited, and she couldn't afford to waste it.
So she couldn't just sit and wait for doom; she had to take the initiative and strike first.
She pondered how to make businesses choose them despite the Starlight Group's influence.
In the afternoon.
Diana knocked and entered.
"Mrs. Whitaker." her voice was noticeably urgent.
"Yes." Cecilia looked at Diana.
"I applied to the advertising department yesterday to arrange all advertising campaigns for us. I just received a response from them, saying the request was denied," Diana said quickly and urgently.
"Why?" Cecilia asked.
"They said that advertising campaigns for the Tower of Light now would be a waste of resources. The Starlight Group's plan to build a shopping district significantly impacts us. Advertising campaigns now would be futile because businesses are in a wait-and-see mode and won't choose us immediately. By the time they start making decisions, our promotional efforts would have missed the optimal period. The advertising department suggested waiting for a while to see how the market develops before doing any promotions."
The advertising department's reasoning was quite sound.
Cecilia stood up from her office chair and said, "Let's go find the director of the advertising department. I want to talk to him alone."
"Yes." Diana quickly followed.
Cecilia left.
Juliana watched Cecilia's exasperated back.
A cold smile played at the corner of her mouth.
She quickly returned to her office and called Vincent. "I think Cecilia is heading to the advertising department. I heard they rejected her promotional request."
Vincent sneered. Of course, he knew Cecilia would be rejected.
After all, he had arranged it.
There was no way he would let Cecilia succeed so easily.
"Okay, I got it," Vincent said slyly. "Your first priority now is to buy off the staff, and I'll take care of the rest."
"Yes."
Vincent hung up the phone.
He was in a good mood.
Although he was determined not to let Cecilia succeed, he still felt a bit uneasy about her sudden burst of capability.
Just when he was at a loss, someone unexpectedly came to him with a proposal to collaborate!
