Chapter 237 Penelope's Embarrassing Apology
Last time, Penelope had held her breath, thinking Dominic would eventually marry Cecilia.
Once Cecilia joined the Kingsley family, she could settle all her past grievances.
Now, with Cecilia and Dominic in this kind of relationship, she just had to endure it.
"If you don't want to, then forget it," Cecilia muttered, "Which news outlet should I send it to? TMZ or Vanity Fair? Or..."
"Penelope!" Dominic's tone was stern. "Apologize for your inappropriate remarks immediately!"
"Dominic!" Penelope's eyes were red.
"Has all the education the Kingsley family gave you gone to waste? As Ms. Kingsley, you speak such shameless words!" Dominic scolded.
Penelope's tears started to fall.
It wasn't that she thought Dominic didn't love her anymore; she just couldn't understand why Dominic was constantly being threatened by Cecilia now.
In Penelope's mind, Dominic was invincible.
"Apologize to Cecilia immediately," Dominic demanded.
There was no room for negotiation.
Penelope gritted her teeth.
Finally, she reluctantly said, "I'm sorry."
"Who are you apologizing to?" Cecilia asked.
"I'm sorry, Cecilia," Penelope replied, holding back her emotions.
"So you admit your earlier remark was directed at me?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.
Penelope looked at Cecilia, stubbornly refusing to admit it. "No."
Admitting it would make things even harder to resolve.
"If it wasn't, then you should apologize to everyone," Cecilia said bluntly.
Penelope was at her limit.
Apologizing to Cecilia was one thing.
After all, Cecilia was from one of the four great families, ranking ahead of the Kingsley family.
But at this table, there were a few who weren't from the four great families, just distant relatives of the Everhart family. With her high status, how could she apologize to them?
"It seems you're still not sincere," Cecilia said lightly.
At that moment, Cecilia deliberately picked up her phone again.
It was a clear hint.
"I'm sorry, everyone," Penelope forced herself to say.
"What are you sorry for?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.
Penelope was on the verge of tears because of Cecilia.
"Don't you know?" Cecilia seemed kind-hearted as she reminded, "Sorry for letting everyone hear such unpleasant words, offending everyone's ears."
Penelope stared tightly at Cecilia.
"Can't you say it?" Cecilia asked her.
Cecilia's tone was gentle but carried a strong sense of oppression.
Penelope, with red eyes, said, "I'm sorry, everyone. I said inappropriate things that offended you. I'm sorry."
The proud Penelope of the Kingsley family, always arrogant, never thought she would have to be so humble and submissive!
Cecilia smiled.
"Penelope, we've known each other for a while. Today, I made you do this not to disgrace you but to teach you a lesson. Now that you've said this in front of us, it's just a bit of bickering and anger. But if Dominic enters a noble family in the future and you act like this, offending the royal relatives of the noble family... have you thought about the consequences?"
Penelope glared at Cecilia.
Cecilia was playing the good guy, and Penelope couldn't argue back.
"I know I was wrong. I won't do it again," Penelope said.
"That's good," Cecilia nodded, looking pleased, which irritated Penelope even more.
"Can you delete the recording now?" Penelope asked.
"I can," Cecilia nodded, then added, "But not now."
Penelope was so angry she wanted to fight Cecilia, but Dominic held her back.
"I never promised to delete the recording just because you apologized. I only agreed to reconcile after the apology."
"Cecilia, you can't..." Penelope started, but Dominic covered her mouth.
Tears of frustration welled up in Penelope's eyes.
"Cecilia, I think our grievances shouldn't involve others," Dominic said calmly.
Dominic had some skills. In a past life, he had played Cecilia well. His comment was a subtle dig, implying Cecilia was targeting the Kingsley family.
"What grievances do we have?" Cecilia shot back. "If there are any, it's Mr. Kingsley's one-sided wish. I'm very happy now. I even thank you for not marrying me."
Dominic's face darkened. 'When did Cecilia become so sharp-tongued?' He couldn't gain any ground in their conversation.
"Anyway, I hope this matter ends here. Penelope has apologized. If you keep holding onto this, it would be unreasonable," Dominic tried to stay calm.
"I didn't say this matter wouldn't end here," Cecilia said. "This matter ends here."
"Then why don't you delete the recording?"
"Keeping the recording is to remind Penelope. If she forgets, my efforts today would be in vain! Don't worry, as long as Penelope doesn't say such things again, I promise I won't release it. But if she remains unrepentant, next time I'll just make the recording public."
Dominic glared at Cecilia, fists clenched.
"I'm doing this for the Kingsley family's sake. If Penelope's mouth gets you into trouble one day, it might not be something a simple apology can fix," Cecilia smiled innocently.
Dominic wanted to kill Cecilia but knew arguing was useless. She had the upper hand.
He gritted his teeth and left with Penelope, afraid he'd lose control.
Penelope reluctantly followed.
Cecilia watched them leave, feeling a sense of relief.
Out of sight, out of mind.
She smiled lightly, satisfied with her performance today. Not only did she drive away two troublemakers, but she also had a recording that would keep Penelope in check.
