Chapter 642 Birth (2) The Child is Born
Cassius listened to the nurse's explanation and got a bit worked up. "Are you kidding me? One minute you say it's dangerous, the next you say it's not. Are you trying to scare me to death?"
He was pissed, and the nurse was so freaked out she didn't dare to say a word.
The whole C-section thing was just to get Cassius ready in case of an emergency, so they could switch to it right away.
But Lily wasn't having it.
As long as there was no absolute danger, the doctor would respect Lily's wishes.
"Alright," Cecilia stepped in to calm the nurse down. "Go in and tell Lily that whether she goes for natural birth or a C-section, we've got her back. She shouldn't stress about it."
"Okay, I'll go tell her right now," the nurse said quickly.
She couldn't wait to get out of there.
The nurse went inside.
Another two hours dragged by.
Cassius couldn't take it anymore. "Does it really take this long to have a baby? Just do the C-section already!"
Hugo shot Cassius a look.
Cassius, annoyed by Hugo's stare, snapped, "I'm just worried about Lily and the baby. What if something goes wrong..."
"You're the one causing trouble!" Hugo barked. "Shut up!"
Cassius felt wronged.
But then he got all jittery again.
"Why hasn't Lily made any noise!" he shouted in shock.
Everyone outside got startled too.
Cassius was really the type to get super worked up.
Just then, the delivery room door opened.
Cassius rushed up and yelled, "Is something wrong?"
Everyone turned to look.
The nurse was clearly scared by Cassius and couldn't speak, like something really had gone wrong.
Everyone tensed up.
The nurse stammered and quickly explained, "No, it's not..."
"Are Lily and the baby both dead?" Cassius got even more tense.
He was about to lose it.
Everyone else was on edge because of Cassius.
The nurse finally caught her breath. "It's a boy."
Cassius's tension suddenly melted away.
"Lily and the baby are both fine. The baby will be brought out soon, but Lily will need to wait a bit longer," the nurse quickly added.
After understanding, Cassius rolled his eyes at the nurse. "If everything's fine, why make it so tense!"
The nurse didn't dare to speak, thinking, 'Weren't you the one freaking out over nothing?'
Everyone else was still tense because of Cassius's behavior.
Luckily, Lily and the baby were both fine.
At that moment, another nurse brought the baby out.
"Who's Lily's family?" the nurse called out.
"Me!" Cassius hurried over.
"It's a boy! Here, hold him for a moment," the nurse said as she handed the baby to Cassius.
Cassius saw his son for the first time.
Was this supposed to be handsome?
Cassius wasn't drop-dead gorgeous, but he was decent-looking.
Lily was pretty too.
How did they end up with such an ugly baby?
"What's wrong?" The nurse was puzzled by Cassius's reaction. Most people get all excited when they see their baby for the first time. So why was Cassius just standing there, not holding the baby?
What was up with that?
Cassius snapped out of it and asked the nurse, "Are you sure this is Lily's baby?"
"Yes," the nurse nodded. "There's only one mother today, so there's no mix-up."
"How can he be so ugly!" Cassius blurted out.
Everyone else was speechless.
Cecilia leaned in for a look.
Not exactly a looker, but not ugly either.
Weren't all newborns like this?
"Babies get better-looking as they grow," the nurse explained. "Your baby is actually quite cute!"
"Really?" Cassius asked, still skeptical.
The nurse quickly nodded and reminded him, "Hold the baby for a bit. We need to take him for a blood test and vaccination soon."
"Okay." Cassius finally took the baby, who felt soft and light, but he was clearly holding him awkwardly.
No matter how Cassius held the baby, it looked ridiculous.
"Do you even know how to hold a baby?" Hugo couldn't help but mock from the side.
Cassius shot Hugo a look. "It's my first time. If you're so good, you hold him!"
Provoked, Hugo said, "Give him to me!"
Cassius handed the baby to Hugo.
Hugo held the baby awkwardly too.
But no one dared to laugh.
Cassius wanted to laugh but was silenced by a look from Hugo.
Hugo rarely showed a joyful smile.
Not just Cassius, even Alaric and Dashiell had rarely seen Hugo smile.
At that moment, Hugo was smiling warmly at the baby, his voice gentle. "I'm your grandpa."
Hearing this, Cassius got goosebumps all over.
Alaric and Dashiell also shivered inexplicably.
Only Cecilia found it normal.
"I'm your grandpa," Hugo repeated gently when the baby didn't react.
Cassius could hardly stand it.
He had never seen Hugo treat him like this.
How did this baby get Hugo's affection?
"He's so ugly; what's so special about him," Cassius muttered, feeling a bit upset.
Why did Hugo treat him and the baby so differently?
"You're the ugly one!" Hugo's face darkened.
He was extremely harsh to Cassius.
Cassius was upset.
"You were even uglier when you were born. How dare you call him ugly!" Hugo fumed.
Cassius pursed his lips and muttered, "If I'm ugly, it's because I look like you..."
Just as Hugo was about to get angry again, the nurse quickly spoke up, "We need to take the baby for vaccination. Which family member will come with us?"
"I'll go," Cassius said quickly.
He didn't want to argue with Hugo.
"Where do you think you're going!" Hugo got angry again. "Lily hasn't come out yet. You should wait here for her! Stay here and wait for Lily!"
With that, he turned to the nurse and said, "I'll go with you!"
It wasn't a big deal; why did he make it sound like going to the gallows?
The nurse quickly followed.
Cassius watched Hugo's back, muttering under his breath.
Alaric patted Cassius on the shoulder. "Hugo hasn't been this happy in a long time."
Cassius was stunned.
Then he nodded.
Even though he was scolded, he had to admit, he hadn't seen Hugo smile in a long time.
