Chapter 682 Cruelty (4) Conspiracy
"Are you saying that Alaric might be lying?" Tomas frowned.
"Everything needs evidence; we can't just take his word for it," Alfonso said cautiously.
Tomas nodded.
He agreed with Alfonso's point of view. "How do we verify it?"
"It's simple," Alfonso said directly. "Send someone to The Hotchner Mansion to see if Gideon really took Cecilia. If he did, then at least 80% of what Alaric said can be trusted."
Tomas thought it made sense.
"The remaining 20% doesn't matter. We're just using Alaric. As long as we can control him, he won't pose much of a threat to us. I'm actually thinking about something else now," Alfonso said with some concern.
"What is it?"
"If everything Alaric said is true, it means the Hotchner family has been plotting against us all along. If we keep delaying, it won't do us any good. I think we should use Alaric to start the war. The best time to attack the Hotchner family is when they're unprepared. If we delay, we might get counterattacked by the Hotchner family!" Alfonso said viciously. "Dad, we need to catch the Hotchner family off guard."
"Do you really think now is the best time?" Tomas was still a bit hesitant.
For so many years, the two major noble families had been at peace.
If war broke out, the situation would really get chaotic!
"If we don't act now, the Hotchner family will. If they get the upper hand, it will be a huge loss for us!"
"Alright," Tomas agreed readily.
In fact, they had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
The control of the Yakurosean Empire should never have been divided; it should have belonged to the Monroe family all along.
"First, let's verify if what Alaric said is true," Alfonso said seriously.
"I'll immediately arrange for our people who are undercover at The Hotchner Mansion," Tomas nodded.
"If it turns out to be true, then Alaric is at least someone we can temporarily trust. Then we can proceed with our plans," Alfonso said with a sinister smile.
Alaric left The Monroe Mansion and sat in the car, his face extremely grim.
He knew very well that the Monroe family would first test the truth of his words. Once they confirmed it, they would believe him and attack the Hotchner family. After all, if the Monroe family wanted to take action, they would definitely choose to do so before the Hotchner family was prepared, catching them off guard.
And Alaric would take advantage of their conflict to reap the benefits.
Everything was planned well, but he hadn't expected Cecilia to get involved.
His eyes flickered as he dialed Gideon's number. "Mr. Hotchner."
"What's up?"
"How's Cecilia?"
"She's fine," Gideon said nonchalantly.
"Please take good care of her," Alaric earnestly requested.
"That depends on your performance," Gideon said coldly.
"I'll set a trap for the Monroe family right away, Mr. Hotchner. I just need you to cooperate."
"Alaric, you never disappoint me."
"Please, Mr. Hotchner, keep your promise."
"Don't worry," Gideon said lightly. "As long as you don't betray me, I guarantee Cecilia will be safe."
"Thank you."
Gideon hung up the phone, the smile on his face fading.
The stronger Alaric became, the more of a threat he would be in the future.
He would have to kill Alaric sooner or later.
As for Cecilia, Gideon's eyes narrowed. Her fate would depend on herself!
The next day.
Alaric received a call from Tomas, asking him to come to The Monroe Mansion again. Clearly, Tomas had made some arrangements.
"After you left last night, I thought for a long time," Tomas said to Alaric. "Cecilia is being controlled by Gideon, so naturally, you are very worried."
"Mr. Monroe, thank you for understanding."
"So Alfonso and I discussed it all night. Since you are willing to be honest with us, we believe in your loyalty. And for loyal people, we won't treat you badly," Tomas said, laying the groundwork.
It was obvious that Tomas had checked Cecilia's location last night and, after getting a clear answer, truly believed him.
"But Alaric, we have our difficulties too. I can't go to The Hotchner Mansion to rescue Cecilia on such a simple charge without concrete evidence. Moreover, whether Cecilia is being held at The Hotchner Mansion or is a guest there, no one can say for sure. If word gets out, I can't convince the public."
"I understand Mr. Monroe's difficulties," Alaric said respectfully.
"Actually, rescuing Cecilia isn't hard. As long as we can give the Hotchner family a charge, with the Monroe family's current strength, defeating the Hotchner family is easy. The key is to make it reasonable!"
"I have an idea," Alaric said directly.
Tomas's eyes showed obvious delight.
He turned to look at Alfonso.
Alfonso was also visibly excited.
What they wanted was to use Alaric to start a war.
"Next Friday, I heard Juniper is hosting a 20th birthday party. Mr. Monroe can invite the Hotchner family over as guests."
"You want me to kill Gideon at such a party?" Tomas's face darkened. "I said killing him isn't hard; the main thing is to find a reasonable excuse. You not only don't have a reasonable excuse but also want me to kill Gideon at my own party. I'm afraid my reputation will be damaged!"
"That's not what I mean," Alaric said directly. "I definitely don't want to ruin Mr. Monroe's reputation. What I mean is, at the party, we stage a performance."
"What do you mean?" Tomas was clearly a bit excited.
"The Monroe family's party naturally can't have any issues. Mr. Monroe, if something goes wrong, whether it's related to you or not, you'll be held responsible. But if you get hurt at the party, do you think anyone would blame you?" Alaric asked.
Tomas was stunned.
He hadn't expected Alaric's thinking to be so quick.
"What I'm thinking is, Mr. Monroe, arrange for an assassin to attack you at the party, then frame Gideon for it. This way, in front of everyone, you'll have a reason to capture Gideon. It's perfectly reasonable," Alaric said directly.
Tomas clearly agreed somewhat.
Before he could speak, Alfonso said directly, "You mean my father needs to get hurt? If he doesn't get really hurt, people will be suspicious!"
Tomas frowned.
At his age, one wrong move could be fatal.
Although the plan was good, he couldn't risk his life!
"Mr. Monroe won't get hurt," Alaric said directly. "When the assassin comes to attack Mr. Monroe, I'll step in front of him and take the hit for him!"
