Chapter 576 Misunderstanding

After Sebastian took off, Seraphina was a mess.

She was so wound up she couldn't catch a wink of sleep. After tossing and turning, she sat up and reached for her phone, only to remember Penelope had already snagged it.

But Sebastian had said if she got scared, she should call him.

Didn't he know that she didn't have her phone with her?

Seraphina bit her lip.

Was it true that once a relationship had a tiny crack, it just kept getting bigger?

She told herself to chill out, got dressed, and headed out.

Even though she was supposed to be freaking out, she found herself leaving the house in the middle of the night and driving off.

She hopped into the car that had been gathering dust in the garage.

Taking a deep breath, she started the engine and hit the road.

She was going to find Dashiell.

She needed answers.

Seraphina drove at a steady pace, but her heart was pounding like crazy.

She pulled up at Dashiell's apartment complex.

Standing at his door, her initial determination turned into doubt.

Why was she so nervous now?

She just wanted the truth.

If Dashiell had saved her tonight, she'd thank him. If not, at least she could stop overthinking.

Taking a deep breath, she punched in the code.

When it showed an error, she remembered Dashiell had changed it.

She wasn't too emotional, just a bit uneasy. She rang the doorbell. It rang a few times, but no one answered.

Was Dashiell not back yet?

Was the explosion connected to him?

Could he be in danger?

Fear gripped her, making her face go pale.

But then the door swung open, and there stood Dashiell, looking annoyed. Seraphina was caught off guard and just stared at him, speechless.

Dashiell broke the silence, "Do you need something?"

"You're home?" Seraphina blurted out.

"Yeah," Dashiell replied.

"You've been home all along?" she asked.

"Yeah," he repeated.

"Tonight..." she started.

"What exactly do you want to say?" Dashiell cut her off, clearly impatient.

Seraphina bit her lip. "I thought you saw me tonight," she said, feeling a pang of hurt.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Dashiell said coldly. "It's late, I need to rest."

"Wasn't it you tonight?" she asked, her eyes welling up with tears she couldn't quite explain.

"Did you have a nightmare?" Dashiell raised an eyebrow.

Seraphina was about to speak, but he continued, "If you had a nightmare, don't come to the wrong place. Sebastian doesn't live here."

She stared at him, seeing nothing but indifference.

So, it really wasn't him?

The person she had in mind wasn't this cold and heartless.

She thought she must have been mistaken.

Dashiell looked at Seraphina with a cold expression.

Seeing that she had nothing more to say, he said, "I'm going to sleep," and started to close the door.

But just as the door was closing, Seraphina blocked it with her hand. The door clamped down on her hand, causing her so much pain that tears streamed down her face.

Dashiell quickly let go, his expression changing slightly as he saw her hand turning red.

Seraphina, fighting through the pain, said, "It's late; can you take me home?"

Dashiell's throat tightened. "You came here by yourself. Can't you go back by yourself?" he said.

"No," Seraphina replied.

"You can call Sebastian," Dashiell suggested.

"I don't have a phone," she said.

"I'll call for you..."

"So was it you who called Sebastian tonight to save me?" Seraphina asked directly.

She just wanted to confirm that Dashiell was the one who saved her. She felt it had to be him.

Dashiell remained silent.

Seraphina felt overwhelmed.

Why wouldn't Dashiell admit it?

Was he afraid she would cling to him?

She just wanted to repay him. She had always been afraid of owing people anything since she was a child.

But Dashiell stayed silent for a long time.

Seraphina looked at him expectantly, wanting a definite answer.

"No." Finally, Dashiell spoke, his voice cold and clear.

Seraphina smiled, her eyes brimming with tears.

Was it so hard for Dashiell to admit he saved her?

Why wouldn't he admit it?

Dashiell remained calm in the face of Seraphina's emotional turmoil. "Wait a moment, I'll put on some clothes and take you home," he said.

So, he would rather compromise and take her home than admit he saved her tonight.

Seraphina watched Dashiell turn and walk inside with tearful eyes.

Watching his departing figure, she felt more and more overwhelmed.

She didn't know where she got the courage, but as she watched Dashiell's back, she followed him inside.

She didn't know why Dashiell had suddenly left her, but at that moment, she really wanted to use all her strength to hug him and feel his warmth. She had wanted to do this in the warehouse tonight.

However, Seraphina's body suddenly froze.

As she followed Dashiell into his room, she saw a woman lying on his bed.

Seraphina stood there stiffly, looking at the woman in the bed, her arm exposed outside the blanket, wearing nothing.

She was probably completely naked.

This person wasn't a stranger.

It was Lucy, the maid Seraphina had specifically hired when she married Dashiell.

At that time, she had asked Magnolia to find a young and beautiful maid to seduce Dashiell.

Now it had really come true.

Seraphina didn't expect that by the time she left this house, when she and Dashiell broke up, Dashiell and Lucy had developed to this point.

She had always thought Dashiell was single and maybe interested in Penelope, but never imagined he would date Lucy.

Thinking about it carefully, Seraphina realized Dashiell had always been good to Lucy.

He would patiently teach her whatever she did.

Over time, it seemed natural that Dashiell and Lucy, spending so much time together, would develop a romantic relationship.
