Chapter 637 Dashiell Deserves to Be Hurt by You Again and Again
Seraphina got to the villa way before Cecilia did.
Cecilia had been nagging non-stop, but Alaric acted like he didn't hear a thing and had Augustus drive at a snail's pace.
Cecilia felt like she was about to lose her mind because of Alaric.
Finally, they made it home.
As Cecilia opened the car door to get out, Alaric grabbed her arm.
"Alaric, can you just act normal for once?" Cecilia was exasperated.
"I just wanted to tell you, don't get too worked up," Alaric said, looking all hurt.
They had just agreed in the car that Alaric wouldn't come inside with her.
Seeing Alaric's puppy-dog eyes, Cecilia couldn't stay mad.
She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. "Okay, got it."
She was about to get out of the car when Alaric held her back again.
"One more thing," he said.
Did he always have to be so clingy?
"Don't tell Seraphina you're pregnant," Alaric said.
"Why not?" Cecilia was getting annoyed.
"You promised you wouldn't get excited," Alaric reminded her.
"Why? Seraphina's my best friend," Cecilia insisted.
"Don't tell anyone for the first three months," Alaric said. "It's a tradition."
"So you're saying I can't tell Seraphina, my parents, anyone?" Cecilia asked.
"Exactly," Alaric confirmed.
"Alaric..." Cecilia groaned.
"I didn't even tell Cassius," Alaric pointed out.
"Can you be any more superstitious?" Cecilia asked.
"Better safe than sorry," Alaric replied.
Cecilia felt like she couldn't have a normal conversation with him. He was nuts.
"Be good," Alaric said, patting her head. "For the sake of our baby, we have to be careful."
Cecilia shot him a look but didn't bother responding. She got out of the car.
"Be careful," Alaric called after her.
Cecilia pretended not to hear him.
Alaric watched her walk away, his smile fading. He looked at a text on his phone and told Augustus, "Head to the State Office."
"Got it," Augustus replied.
Alaric's face turned serious. The Monroe family had finally come to him willingly.
Meanwhile, Cecilia walked into the villa's hall.
Seraphina was sitting on the sofa, looking pissed.
Seraphina thought Cecilia was being inconsiderate. She'd been waiting for half an hour, and Cecilia just strolled in like it was no big deal. Were they even friends anymore?
Seeing Seraphina's face, Cecilia knew exactly what she was thinking. Seraphina always wore her heart on her sleeve but tried to play it cool.
It was the same in their past life, and it was still the same now.
"You're here early," Cecilia said, breaking the ice.
Seraphina looked really mad.
"Don't be upset; I just went to the hospital," Cecilia explained.
"Hospital?" Seraphina's face changed instantly. "What's wrong? Are you sick? Where does it hurt?"
Cecilia couldn't help but laugh.
Seraphina's expression shifted again when she saw Cecilia laughing.
"Cecilia, you're messing with me on purpose," Seraphina accused.
"I really went to the hospital, but it's nothing serious," Cecilia assured her.
She didn't mention the pregnancy. It wasn't about superstition; Alaric was so anxious, she couldn't just brush it off. She had to consider his feelings."Alright," Seraphina said, not suspecting a thing.
"So, how do you feel about Sebastian now?" Cecilia asked, cutting straight to the point.
"I don't know," Seraphina admitted, feeling lost about her own emotions.
"Not knowing means you don't have any feelings," Cecilia said confidently.
Seraphina looked at Cecilia, wanting to argue, but couldn't find the words, so she stayed silent.
Cecilia continued, "If there's no feeling, staying together is just hurting each other. Seraphina, I think you should break up with Sebastian now."
"I already did. I brought it up last night, but Sebastian tried to kill himself. What can I do? Can I just watch him die? Cecilia, you don't know how guilty I felt when I saw Sebastian covered in blood. I was thinking, if Sebastian died, what would I do? I felt like I might go crazy!" Seraphina's voice shook, and her eyes filled with tears.
Cecilia pressed her lips together. She actually understood Seraphina. If she hadn't been reborn, she would have been fooled by these tricks too. Back then, if Dominic had done even a little bit of good for her, she would have softened, let alone Sebastian threatening Seraphina with his life.
"What if Dashiell used the same method? What would you choose?" Cecilia asked, trying a different angle.
Seraphina was stunned. A scene seemed to flash in her mind. The next second, she was scared and quickly shook her head. "Impossible, Dashiell wouldn't commit suicide."
Cecilia pressed, "What if?"
"There's no such possibility," Seraphina insisted, unwilling to think more about it. "Dashiell takes good care of himself. He can live well without me. He would never commit suicide."
Cecilia looked at Seraphina.
Seraphina continued, "I moved my office today, just moved out from outside Dashiell's office. Dashiell saw me, but he had no emotional reaction. When I called Dashiell, he had no emotions either. How could a man who can control his emotions so well commit suicide? Absolutely impossible."
"So Dashiell deserves to be hurt by you again and again?" Cecilia asked.
Seraphina bit her lip. She actually felt very uncomfortable. Whenever she thought about her messy feelings, she wanted to cry her heart out.
"Why don't you consider why Dashiell has no emotions, why he doesn't speak, and why he silently endures everything you do?" Cecilia tried to control her anger but still spoke with some agitation. "When have you not been the one to give up on him? When has he ever felt secure around you? From childhood until now, after you kissed him for the first time, what did you do? You turned around and started dating Sebastian. After you got married, when the miscarriage happened, you asked for a divorce. Now that you've finally reconciled, as soon as Sebastian has any issues, you turn your back on him. Seraphina, put yourself in his shoes—what would you do? What choice does he have but to silently accept everything? When has he ever been able to impact your feelings? When has he ever changed your mind? By doing this, I even wonder if he's still considering your feelings, not wanting to make things harder for you."
Cecilia's words hit Seraphina hard, and she started to cry her heart out.
George, who was about to bring coffee and snacks, found himself in an awkward spot as Seraphina's sobs filled the room.
