Chapter 561 Second Trial (4) Video Exposure
The so-called corruption charges got cleared up, and the whole courtroom was left in shock. It was a complete 180 from what everyone thought was a done deal.
Dominic was sitting in the gallery, feeling like he was walking on eggshells.
He never saw it coming that Alaric would have such rock-solid evidence.
How could this be happening?
Dominic had planned this for so long, he thought it was airtight.
He gritted his teeth and told himself to stay cool.
Even with the corruption charges off the table, there was still the rape charge. Alaric wasn't getting off that easy.
Dominic tried to keep his cool.
On the stand, Felix bluntly said, "Mr. Collins keeps saying Mr. Whitaker was framed. But who did it? From start to finish, Mr. Collins hasn't given a straight answer."
Preston laughed, full of disdain.
Felix wasn't some rookie lawyer; he was a regular in public prosecution cases and had a killer success rate, making him a big name in Serenovia City.
Preston, on the other hand, didn't have much courtroom experience and wasn't from Serenovia City. To the locals, Preston was a nobody.
Right then, Preston's disdain really got under Felix's skin.
Preston said, "Who framed Mr. Whitaker? Isn't that the prosecution's job to figure out? We can only prove our innocence. If we could also find out who framed us, then what are the prosecution and the police even here for?"
"You!" Felix was clearly stung by the sarcasm.
Joe also took the chance to issue a warning, "Mr. Collins, watch your language!"
"Yes." Preston showed utmost respect to Joe and said, "What we can provide is evidence that we didn't commit the crime. As for who framed us, that needs further investigation by the prosecution."
Joe didn't give a definitive answer, but it was clear that the corruption charges against Alaric weren't sticking with all the evidence and witnesses.
Preston didn't waste any time and quickly shifted gears. "Now let's talk about the false rape accusation against Mr. Whitaker. I've said over and over that Mr. Whitaker wouldn't commit rape. But Mr. Murphy kept saying I had no evidence and made up a bunch of reasons against Mr. Whitaker. Now I'll continue to defend Mr. Whitaker's innocence."
After speaking, Preston turned to Alaric. "Mr. Whitaker, did you meet with Juliana on the night she died?"
"Yes," Alaric replied. "The State Office organized a dinner party at that time, and a lot of colleagues were there."
Preston asked, "Who were they?"
Alaric listed the names.
Naturally, Dominic was mentioned.
Preston asked again, "Besides you, did anyone else see Juliana?"
Alaric responded, "Since we met at the entrance, no one else saw her."
Preston continued, "So besides you, did anyone else have any interaction with Juliana?"
"No," Alaric answered.
This response clearly exonerated everyone else.
The atmosphere in the courtroom grew tense.
Preston continued to ask, "Did Juliana approach you on her own?"
Alaric replied, "Yes, she offered to take me home."
"Were you drunk that night?" Preston asked.
Alaric said, "A bit, but I was conscious."
Preston said, "So you could have gone home by yourself?"
"Yes," Alaric replied.
"Did she approach you with other intentions?"
"Yes," Alaric confirmed.
"Objection," Felix said, standing up again. "I object. Mr. Collins and Mr. Whitaker are colluding. In the video we provided, it's clear that Mr. Whitaker and Juliana were very close. There's no evidence that Juliana had any ulterior motives."
"Objection sustained," Joe ruled, siding with the prosecution. "The defense should not waste everyone's time."
"Your Honor," Preston turned to Joe and said, "My conversation with Mr. Whitaker is to show that Juliana's approach to Alaric was premeditated. I also have the video evidence. Please allow me to present it."
Naturally, Joe couldn't refuse.
Preston then had the clerk play the video.
In the video, Juliana was seen helping Alaric walk into the hotel.
Alaric's steps were clearly unsteady from drinking, while Juliana seemed very sober.
They entered a room where Juliana helped Alaric onto the bed. Alaric, looking uncomfortable, tugged at his tie, and Juliana stepped forward to help him loosen it.
Juliana's eyes clearly showed her desire for Alaric.
