Chapter 458 The Game (3)

Atticus saw Dashiell strutting around all confident and didn't wanna kill his vibe.

He gave a nod. "Alright, I believe you."

"Cool, I'll get back to it." Dashiell was about to bounce.

"Dashiell," Atticus called out.

Dashiell turned around.

"Magnolia..."

Dashiell noticed Atticus hesitating.

"She's been in a funk lately. Seraphina's miscarriage really messed her up, so she took off to clear her head. I think you should sort things out with my mom on your own. If I step in, it might just make things messier."

"Got it." Atticus didn't push it.

Magnolia had been dodging him lately.

"I'm outta here then."

"Okay."

With that, Dashiell limped out of Atticus's office with his cane.

He wasn't sure if Magnolia still wanted to be with Atticus.

Whatever she decided, he'd back her up.

So, he decided to stay out of it.

It was lunchtime.

Dashiell took the elevator from the top-floor chairman's office to the cafeteria on the third floor.

The elevator was packed.

It went from just him to being crammed with people.

He got squished to the back.

Then he overheard some whispers, "Did you see the news? Mr. Rainier and Ms. Everhart are divorced? I saw Ms. Everhart getting cozy with Mr. Everest. I even caught them getting it on in the office once. I thought she was cheating on Mr. Rainier, but turns out they were already divorced."

"Mr. Rainier is so hot. I don't get why Ms. Everhart dumped him."

"But Mr. Rainier has a limp. Who wants to be with someone disabled?" a female colleague whispered. "If it were me, I'd pick Mr. Everest too."

"That's so shallow," another female colleague sighed.

"People are shallow..." They suddenly clammed up.

Because Seraphina and Sebastian squeezed into the elevator.

They didn't work on the same floor.

It was clear Sebastian had gone to find Seraphina.

They stood shoulder to shoulder, acting all proper in public.

The two gossiping colleagues nudged each other, clearly curious about Seraphina and Sebastian.

The elevator hit the third floor, and people started to file out one by one.

Dashiell suddenly lost his appetite for the cafeteria.

So he stayed in the elevator, planning to head back down.

Just as he was about to close the elevator door, someone held it open.

Seraphina hurried in.

When she saw Dashiell, her eyes paused for a moment before she walked in.

She had forgotten her phone.

Even for lunch, she felt uneasy without it.

She hadn't expected to run into Dashiell.

Dashiell pressed his floor button and asked, "Which floor?"

Seraphina was startled and quickly said, "13th floor."

Dashiell pressed the button for her.

The elevator went up.

They both stayed quiet.

"Why aren't you having lunch?" Seraphina finally couldn't help but ask.

"I've ordered takeout," Dashiell said coldly.

"You don't eat takeout." Seraphina frowned.

She had never seen Dashiell eat takeout.

Dashiell was disciplined to an insane degree.

"People change," Dashiell said indifferently.

Seraphina pursed her lips.

That line seemed to have some hidden meaning.

The elevator soon hit Seraphina's floor, and she stepped out.

As she turned back, the elevator doors were already closing.

She took a deep breath and decided to steer clear of Dashiell from now on.

Dashiell got back to his office and ordered some takeout.

Just a bowl of soup.

He really wasn't into takeout.

When he ate out, he barely touched his plate.

After ordering, he called Cecilia, "Cecilia, am I interrupting your lunch?"

"Nope," Cecilia had just finished George's nutritious lunchbox.

She was stuffed, asking, "Got some big news?"

"Leandro from the board gave me crap today, saying I don't deserve this position," Dashiell said.

"And then?" Cecilia asked.

"I shut him down with a few words." Dashiell answered.

"So?"

"I've noticed Sebastian has quite a few fans at Everhart Bank."

"Figured as much," Cecilia said calmly. "As Atticus has aged, he's been less hands-on. Most stuff is handled by Sebastian, who's pretty dedicated. It's natural he's got a lot of support."

"Once your issue is sorted, I need to start cleaning up Everhart Bank," Dashiell said firmly.

"I agree." Cecilia nodded.

"Just wanted to update you on the situation at Everhart Bank. No other issues, so I won't bug you anymore."

"Okay."

Dashiell suddenly remembered. "By the way, I heard you and Alaric are planning to have a kid. Good luck."

Could he not bring up such awkward topics?

She said, "I'm hanging up now."

"Bye."

Cecilia put down her phone and couldn't help but touch her abdomen.

Would it work this time?

She had never thought about having a kid.

But now, because of Alaric, she was so anxious she wished it would happen immediately.

Alaric really had a way of getting to her.

In the afternoon, while Cecilia was working, Rose suddenly burst in all excited.

"What happened?" Cecilia looked at her.

"Bill's personal secretary just called. He wants to meet you at his hotel at 10 AM tomorrow to discuss the international e-commerce project." Rose could hardly contain her excitement. "Ms. Lockhart, what did you say to Mr. Tackett at the party yesterday? He's actually reaching out to us for a collab! It's amazing!"

Cecilia smiled slightly.

She didn't think it would be that simple.

She said, "Alright, I know. Call Pierce for me."

"Yes." Rose nodded quickly, not forgetting to add, "Ms. Lockhart, I really admire you."

"Alright, brown-noser," Cecilia chuckled.

"I'm not flattering you; I genuinely admire you," Rose said seriously.

"Got it." Cecilia waved her hand. "You can go now."

She didn't feel particularly excited.

Rose admired Cecilia's calmness even more.

Not only was she highly capable, but she was also so low-key and composed.

Someone like Cecilia was destined for success.

A while later, Pierce walked into Cecilia's office, reporting, "Ms. Lockhart."

Cecilia nodded. "Bill just called to discuss a collab. What do you think his game is?"
