Chapter 296 Ophelia Was Abused
"You ungrateful child. How dare you say such things, such heartless words. I've always treated you well, supplied you food, clothes, and everything you needed. How many times have I covered for your mistakes? And now you say this to me? You even hit me! Do you believe I'll die right in front of you?" Ophelia was completely hysterical.
Her screams were so loud that her voice broke.
All these years, she had never been treated like this. Even when she had a bad relationship with Cecilia's grandfather, he never treated her this way. He even avoided her to keep the peace. After Cecilia's grandfather passed away, she became the most respected person in the family. Everyone had to respect her. She even went out of her way to make things difficult for Cecilia's family, and they always treated her with utmost respect. Now, she was being abused like this.
She couldn't understand it, no matter how hard she tried.
Andrew said, "You can die right now! You're useless, what are you even doing in this world?" Andrew tore off all his pretense, showing no mercy. "If it weren't for Theodore treating you well back then, do you think you'd have had a good life? Ophelia, do you really think our family genuinely cares about you? We just wanted to use you to get the Lockhart Group! Now that you've offended Theodore's family, you're useless to us. Useless people, it's better to die early so as not to cause offense!"
"Andrew, I swear I'll kill you! I'm going to make sure you're dead!" Ophelia yelled as she lunged at him.
Before she could even get close, Andrew shoved her forcefully onto the couch.
Ophelia, at her age, was completely disoriented by the push.
Andrew, still fuming, moved forward, ready to land a few more slaps.
Vivienne, seeing her son in such a rage, quickly intervened. "Andrew, killing her won't solve anything. It's not worth ruining your future over her."
Andrew paused, considering Vivienne's words. He stepped back, saying, "You'd better get some perspective. If you ever try to manipulate my mother again, I'll make sure you regret it."
"You've gone too far!" Ophelia screeched.
She couldn't accept being treated this way, no matter how bad it got.
"Andrew, if you keep this up, I'll go to the media and ruin you. I'll make sure you're disgraced and have nothing left."
"Go ahead!" Andrew scoffed. "After you made a fool of Theodore's family with your accusations, no media will believe you. Take a look at your phone—everyone's already calling you an old hag. Exposing me now will just make you look like a bigger joke. Nobody will buy your story."
"I'll get Theodore involved. He'll come and deal with you himself!"
"Grandma, do you even know what hell is?" Andrew sneered. "Theodore's family doesn't owe you anything. You treated them like dirt, and now you expect help from him? Theodore's got a long memory, and Cecilia's got a mean streak. If you go to them, you'll be shown the door. Believe me, it's better you stay away and save yourself the embarrassment!"
"You beast!" Ophelia spat out, her rage only finding release in her venomous words.
"Just like I've always been taught," Andrew shot back, "Theodore's family was genuinely good to you, but you took it for granted and tried to destroy them. Now you're reaping what you've sown. This is your own mess—don't blame anyone else!"
"Andrew…"
"Enough!" Andrew cut her off, clearly done with the argument.
He turned to Vivienne. "Mom, take her phone away. Keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't cause any more trouble."
"Got it," Vivienne replied, resigned. She had served Ophelia long enough and was more than ready to see the end of it.
If it weren't for the fact that appeasing Ophelia had its uses, Vivienne wouldn't have bothered lowering herself so much.
As Andrew took out his frustrations on Ophelia, it was clear that he was finally releasing the pent-up resentment he'd been harboring for years. For Vivienne, it was quite satisfying to see him unburden himself.
"I'm feeling a bit off. I'm heading to my room to rest," Andrew said. He wasn't in the mood to return to work today.
Just thinking about the humiliation he'd endured at the office only fueled his anger further.
He thought, 'One day, Cecilia will pay for this. And it will be a heavy price.'
Cecilia had completed the handover of her duties. The Sales Director from the branch office had been reassigned, and Juliana was promoted to Assistant Sales Director.
Cecilia now sat in the executive office, which still bore the signs of its previous occupant.
In reality, it was all a show for others.
Cecilia knew full well that with Andrew's capabilities, he wouldn't be able to rise to the top.
Andrew was also self-aware enough to understand his limitations, which was why he often resorted to drastic measures to achieve his goals.
Cecilia was simply waiting for Andrew to make a fatal mistake.
Her new office had been hastily set up from a previously unused room, and her appointment was merely as the "Acting Senior Vice President." Her temporary office setup made sense under the circumstances.
Yet, despite this, anyone else would have felt some discomfort. But not Cecilia—she was unfazed, as if she didn't care about the so-called prestige at all.
Rose watched as Cecilia maintained her calm demeanor.
Rose thought, 'oesd she really not care about her reputation? Does she not fear being ridiculed?
'What if Andrew makes a comeback, and she has to leave in disgrace? Is she not at all worried?'
"If you have something to say, just say it," Cecilia said, her head down as she dealt with her tasks.
The major issues were handled by the CEO, but it was the minor matters that had been neglected.
"Nothing important," Rose quickly replied.
She had a nagging feeling that Cecilia was one of those people who always seemed to have everything under control. No matter what challenges or obstacles came her way, Cecilia always managed to turn things around in her favor.
So Rose figured there was no point in worrying.
"Then get back to work. If you're in this position, you'll have a lot more responsibilities to handle. By the end of this week, I need you to report back with a detailed list of all the duties for this role, including what specific areas this position oversees."
"Understood," Rose replied respectfully.
She thought, 'After all, Ms. Lockhart won't let anyone have a moment of personal time.
'Not even a second to daydream!'
