Chapter 377 I'm Afraid We'll Drift Further Apart
The saleswoman gave a quick glance and shook her head, "Sorry, we don't have that brand right now."
"Seriously?" Alaric looked bummed out.
It wasn't like he minded hitting up a few more stores to find it.
He just didn't want Cecilia to be stuck on the toilet.
If he didn't get back soon, she couldn't get off the toilet.
"I recommend this one, it's the best we got," the saleswoman said, all enthusiastic.
She handed a box to Alaric.
Alaric took it, feeling super awkward.
As a guy, he'd never dealt with this stuff before.
"Is it really good?" Alaric asked, still unsure.
"Trust me! I wouldn't lie to a good guy like you," the saleswoman said, all sincere.
Alaric believed her. "Alright, I'll take it."
He was about to leave with it.
"Wait, sir, there's a deal on these. Buy three, get one free. You might as well grab three packs for your wife, and I'll throw in an extra. She'll need them anyway," the saleswoman suggested.
Alaric nodded. "Okay."
Buying a few more packs might come in handy next time Cecilia needed them.
"By the way, we also have panty liners for lighter days. They're more comfy. You should get some too; they're on sale now," the saleswoman quickly added, grabbing a few boxes of panty liners.
"Okay," Alaric said.
"And these, special tissues for that time of the month. Women need to be extra hygienic, and these are safer. They're also on sale, buy five, get one free. Let me grab some for you," the saleswoman continued.
Alaric nodded.
"This is a wash for use during period, morning and night. It'll make her feel more comfortable. It's also on sale. Let me get some for you," the saleswoman added.
So, Alaric went out to buy one pack of pads but ended up leaving the store with two big bags, one in each hand.
On his way home, Cecilia's legs were going numb.
Just as she was about to call Alaric, she saw him walk in with two big bags, leaving her speechless.
"Why'd you buy so much?" Cecilia asked.
"Shouldn't I have bought this much?" Alaric shot back.
So, this guy got played, and he had no clue.
Alaric put the bags on the bathroom counter and started taking stuff out one by one. "They didn't have the brand you wanted, so the saleswoman recommended this one."
He handed it to Cecilia.
Cecilia glanced at it.
It wasn't a brand she knew, but she didn't want to burst Alaric's bubble.
"The saleswoman said it's the best," Alaric said.
Cecilia smiled and nodded.
Even the sharp Alaric could get duped sometimes.
"These are panty liners for lighter days," Alaric said, like he was showing off a treasure.
He took out everything he bought.
Alaric looked kinda proud.
Cecilia didn't have the heart to tell him she was leaving that afternoon.
Did he think she was gonna pack all this and take it with her?
She changed her pad and put on her pants.
"Won't you need these?" Alaric asked.
"I don't need them," Cecilia said bluntly.
Alaric looked at Cecilia.
Cecilia chuckled, "I'll use them next time I come over."
It was pretty obvious she was just trying to make him feel better.
Smart as Alaric was, he realized he'd been played by the saleswoman.
Cecilia didn't say anything, and Alaric quietly stashed everything in the cabinet.
Out of sight, out of mind.
"What time's your flight this afternoon?" Alaric asked.
"2 o'clock," Cecilia replied.
"We've got some time," Alaric said, checking his watch. "You hungry?"
Cecilia nodded.
First day of her period, her stomach was still a bit crampy.
She didn't have much energy.
"Looks like we're low on food. I'll whip up some pasta," Alaric said.
"Be good, go lie down on the bed, and I'll make you some pasta."
Cecilia went lay down on the bed.
She felt a bit melancholic.
The first day of her period always made her feel a bit uncomfortable.
But the main point was that they could have... but now they were just staring at each other.
She didn't know if it was Alaric's bad luck or hers.
Cecilia lay on the bed for a while, and Alaric came into the room with a bowl of pasta, feeding her the pasta.
In just a few days, Alaric's meticulous care made her feel like everything was taken for granted.
"Mrs. Whitaker, have you gained weight?" Alaric suddenly asked.
Cecilia burped.
She was clearly satisfied with her meal, but hearing Alaric's words, her face turned a bit sour. "Are you saying I'm fat?"
"No," Alaric laughed. "I just love the way you are."
"That's so cheesy," Cecilia said, pretending to be annoyed.
In fact, her heart was already melting.
Alaric didn't mind her accusation.
He said seriously, "When you go back, you need to eat more and gain some weight, okay?"
No way.
She would rather die than gain weight.
"Take good care of yourself," Alaric said, touching Cecilia's cheek with a serious expression.
Whenever Alaric was serious, Cecilia found it hard to resist.
She suddenly leaned in and kissed Alaric on the lips.
Just a quick peck, then she pulled away.
Alaric looked at her with deep affection.
Cecilia said, "You should take care of yourself too."
Alaric nodded.
"Alaric." Cecilia suddenly felt a bit down.
"What's wrong?" Alaric asked softly.
"It's only in this place that I feel like we can truly be a couple, like a normal family. It's not luxurious, but it's warm and happy," Cecilia said. It was probably the saying that happiness brings sadness. When people were at their happiest, they tended to feel the most vulnerable to loss. "In the future, you'll do better in the noble family, and I'll keep working at the Lockhart Group. I'm Afraid We'll Drift Further Apart."
