Chapter 632 He Resolved not to Dwell on It
Sebastian scribbled his name, and Dashiell followed suit.
They each grabbed a copy for their records.
Sebastian leaned back and asked, "Dashiell, I've always wondered—do you actually have feelings for Seraphina?"
Dashiell ignored him, sinking into his office chair and diving back into his work.
"If you liked her, you wouldn't have gone about it this way!" Sebastian pressed.
"That's my business," Dashiell shot back, cold as ice. "You can leave now."
Sebastian smirked, a hint of mockery in his voice. "I wonder, if I hadn't gotten back with Seraphina today and she had picked you instead, what would you have done with the dirt you have on me? Is it because she chose me again that you're tolerating me? Are you scared of hurting her feelings?"
Dashiell's eyes narrowed, his icy stare piercing through Sebastian.
A sharp pang hit Sebastian's chest.
He had to admit it—Dashiell's presence sent chills down his spine.
Determined, Sebastian straightened up.
One day, he told himself, he would drive Dashiell out of Everhart Bank.
He said, "Don't worry. I'll take good care of Seraphina, and I'll make sure she loves me deeply."
It was a deliberate jab at Dashiell.
Dashiell's expression remained cold.
In the end, he said nothing.
He just watched as Sebastian walked away.
Originally, Dashiell had gathered evidence of Sebastian's crimes just to make him leave Seraphina voluntarily, so she wouldn't feel guilty. As for their past grievances, they would end there. He had more than enough ability to keep Seraphina safe from harm.
As expected, he had overthought it. Shifting his focus back to work, he resolved not to dwell on it any longer.
Sebastian walked out of the office.
Seraphina was waiting outside. Seeing him come out, she wanted to ask something but held back.
She glanced towards the office.
She could vaguely see Dashiell fully engrossed in his work, no different from usual.
It seemed he wasn't affected at all.
Seraphina pressed her lips together and looked up at Sebastian.
Sebastian put his arm around her shoulder and said, "Let's go."
Seraphina nodded.
She didn't ask Sebastian what he and Dashiell had talked about inside.
Instead, Sebastian spoke up first. "Dashiell told me to take good care of you," he said.
Upon hearing this, Seraphina felt a pang in her heart.
Just the mention of that name caused her heart to ache.
She held back tears, her voice coming out slightly hoarse. "Did he really say that?"
"He said that since you chose me, it's your decision, and he respects it," Sebastian replied.
"Why would he say that to you?" Seraphina asked, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Dashiell hadn't mentioned anything like that on the phone.
Now, he was telling Sebastian.
Was he really being kind-hearted?
Or had he completely given up on Seraphina?
Seraphina's eyes reddened, and she bit her lip, trying to hold back.
"Maybe he's just afraid you'll feel guilty," Sebastian said, tightening his hold on Seraphina as if to comfort her. "From now on, let's live a good life together, alright? Let's not let anyone come between us. I promise I'll love you forever."
Seraphina replied, "Okay."
Maybe she didn't even hear what Sebastian was saying.
She was just thinking.
Had Dashiell really let go?
He didn't put up any resistance, didn't even ask Seraphina why she did it!Thinking it over, Seraphina wondered what difference it would make if Dashiell asked. Would she even answer him? Most likely, she would stay silent and tell Dashiell she liked Sebastian. Wouldn't that just hurt them both even more? She started to question whether Dashiell was holding back his questions because he already knew this would happen.
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, Seraphina felt overwhelmed by the fear of breaking down.
"Sebastian, I want to go back and rest," she said.
"I'll go with you," Sebastian responded.
"Just let me be alone," Seraphina insisted.
"I can't do that," Sebastian replied, his eyes locked onto hers.
Seraphina looked back at him. "I'm sorry, Seraphina. I know I'm being selfish. I'm just scared you'll leave me again. I really..." Sebastian said, his face filled with guilt.
He couldn't bear the thought of neglecting her, even for a moment. Because if he did... he knew he'd be left with nothing. After all, he no longer had any leverage.
"Then let's go to work," Seraphina said bluntly.
Sebastian's eyes turned cold. So, Seraphina would rather join him at work than be alone with him?
"I'm sorry, Seraphina..." he said, guilt written all over his face.
"It's nothing; it's all in the past. Let's just focus on living well from now on," she replied, managing a forced smile.
She thought to herself, 'This is my decision. Even if it hurts, I can only endure it.'
At the Lockhart Group, Cecilia felt a bit tired after finishing a meeting and sitting in her office. Lately, she seemed to be lacking energy. Was it from too much indulgence?
As thoughts of her wild nights with Alaric crossed her mind, her face suddenly flushed with embarrassment. Her gaze drifted to the calendar on her desk. In a week, it would be Alaric's birthday.
When she first remembered, Alaric's publicly known birthday had already passed. Suddenly, she recalled Alaric saying he was actually half a month younger than Jasper, just in time for a surprise. But what kind of surprise would truly catch Alaric off guard?
Cecilia felt a bit troubled.
"Ms. Lockhart," Rose called respectfully.
Hearing this, Cecilia snapped back to reality. She had been too engrossed in her thoughts.
"Here's the document you requested," Rose said, handing the document to Cecilia.
Cecilia took it.
"Ms. Lockhart, you don't look well," Rose remarked, noticing how Cecilia had taken a while to respond after calling her several times. Cecilia was usually very alert at work, rarely distracted.
"Yes, I haven't been sleeping well lately," Cecilia said lightly. Of course, she wouldn't explain that it was because of long nights of lovemaking.
"Ms. Lockhart, you used to work late without this issue. I wonder..." Rose looked serious.
Cecilia's heart raced. It felt like her hidden secret had been discovered.
Rose asked, "Are you pregnant?"
Cecilia stared at Rose.
"Usually, sudden changes in your body, feeling tired, sleepy, and having no appetite can be signs of pregnancy. Ms. Lockhart, do you feel like vomiting? Any morning sickness?" Rose asked seriously.
Cecilia's heart raced even faster. She hadn't considered this possibility. She and Alaric hadn't used any contraception. But they hadn't gotten pregnant all this time. However, their health check-ups were normal.
