Chapter 771 Seraphina Summons Her Courage

"Cecilia," Seraphina called out with concern, "I really want to kill Alaric."

"It's okay, I'm really fine, not that upset. I've been through worse things before, I'm used to it," Cecilia said calmly.

"You've been through worse?" Seraphina felt even more heartbroken.

How could Cecilia have had such a hard life?

Yes.

Her past life was even worse than this one.

Now she could even comfort herself with a good attitude, at least she wasn't dead, and neither were Theodore and Genevieve.

"Just kidding," Cecilia forced a smile. "Anyway, I'm doing fine now."

"What about your child?" Seraphina couldn't help but ask.

"The baby..." Cecilia paused.

"Do you still want her?" Seraphina asked cautiously.

She was really afraid that Cecilia would make some shocking decision.

But it seemed that no matter what decision she made, she could only support her.

"Let it be," Cecilia said indifferently.

Seraphina felt a pang in her heart again.

Cecilia had a hard time getting pregnant.

She cherished and looked forward to it so much, but now she could only use "let it be" to describe the existence of this child.

Seraphina was really angry.

She really wanted to slap that bastard Alaric to death!

"Let's not talk about it anymore," Cecilia remained calm, "Dashiell should still be at work, you should go tell him that you're willing to stay."

Seraphina still felt she didn't have the courage.

"We'll talk later."

"Make sure to tell me if anything happens," Seraphina said excitedly.

If Cecilia hadn't said anything, she really wouldn't have known how much Cecilia had been suffering lately.

She thought she was already miserable enough.

She thought that by not looking for Cecilia, she was letting Cecilia have some peace of mind, but little did she know that Cecilia was living in such a dire situation.

"Okay," Cecilia agreed.

Then she slowly hung up the phone.

She was still sitting in her office.

The afterglow of the sunset had already faded.

The whole city was lit up with neon lights, bustling with activity.

Growing up in New York City, no matter how fast it had developed in recent years, Cecilia still had a sense of familiarity and belonging.

She didn't know if she would feel reluctant when the day came to leave.

Her eyes moved slightly.

She pressed the intercom, "Rose, come in for a moment."

"Yes." Rose was still dutiful.

As long as Cecilia didn't leave, she would never leave early.

She knocked and entered, "Ms. Lockhart."

"Is everything ready for next week's all-hands meeting?" Cecilia asked.

"Yes, everything is ready," Rose reported quickly, "All employees will attend, and other branches will join via video conference; everything has been arranged."

"Thank you," Cecilia smiled slightly.

"It's no trouble, it's just..." Rose hesitated.

"Just say it, we might not have many chances to see each other in the future."

"Now that you mention it, I really want to cry," Rose's eyes turned red instantly.

Rose had been following Cecilia these past few days and knew about the changes happening at the Lockhart Group.

She never would have thought that what was supposed to be the most prestigious company in the United States was now suddenly facing acquisition.

It was hard to understand.

Cecilia chuckled lightly.

Sometimes it seemed she could only use a smile to cover up her inner sadness.

She said, "You can still stay here in the future. No matter who takes my place, your job will remain the same. Don't be sad."

"It's not just about the job," Rose said, a bit annoyed.

"But this is all I can do for you."

"Ms. Lockhart, don't say that, you've already done so much for the company. No other boss would consider their employees so thoroughly when leaving, I'm really touched, and I believe all the employees at the Lockhart Group are too."

"Don't make me sound so great, I just don't want to owe anyone anything, so I can leave with a clear conscience."

"But you are great," Rose said firmly, leaving no room for argument.

"Just keep that in mind. If I need your help in the future, don't refuse me."

"I swear I won't," Rose said seriously.

Cecilia smiled again.

There were still many beautiful things in this world.

With a different mindset, the scenery you see changes.

She said, "It's getting late, you should leave early."

"What about you?" Rose asked.

"I'm about to leave, too."

"Will those two bodyguards at the door keep following you?" Rose couldn't help but complain about the two black-suited bodyguards who followed her to work every day.

"Are they bothering you?"

"No, it's just..." Rose hesitated, "Is Augustus really not coming back?"

Cecilia pursed her lips.

"It's not that I still have feelings for him," Rose looked very nonchalant, "I just want to scold him face to face, otherwise I'll always have this pent-up anger."

"It'll get better with time," Cecilia said perfunctorily.

Seeing that Cecilia had no intention of helping her, Rose knew that Cecilia must have her own difficulties, so she didn't push it.

But just thinking about Augustus made her feel a bit upset.

Even if he didn't like her, couldn't he just say it to her face?

Why did he have to reject her in this way?

So cowardly.

Cecilia watched the emotions change on Rose's face and deliberately shifted her gaze, saying calmly, "I'm leaving, you should go home early."

"Okay."

Cecilia got up and left.

At the door.

The two black-suited bodyguards followed her closely.

Cecilia sat in the car, looking at the city lights, lost in thought.

Everhart Bank.

Seraphina had been hesitating in her office for a long time.

Should she go and say she was willing to stay?

She was really afraid of Dashiell now.

The confidence she once had in front of him seemed to have completely disappeared.

She was becoming more and more insecure.

She was going crazy.

She finally made up her mind!

After all, it wouldn't be the first time she embarrassed herself.

She was used to it.

She walked to Dashiell's office door and knocked.

Seraphina's heart was racing.

Racing.

"Come in," Dashiell's familiar voice came through.

At that moment, Seraphina's heart seemed to beat even faster.

She held her breath and walked in.

Dashiell was working at his desk, not looking at her, his voice drifting over, "Have you made up your mind?"

"Yes," Seraphina nodded.

Dashiell's hand on the keyboard visibly stiffened.

But his expression remained calm.

"Well..." Seraphina stammered, "You know I'm not very capable, so if you get tired of me, don't make it too hard for me."

Dashiell pretended not to care and kept typing on the keyboard.

Seeing Dashiell's indifferent attitude, Seraphina mustered up the courage to say, "I'll stay at Everhart Bank, please take care of me."

After saying that, Seraphina bowed deeply.

She was so nervous that her heart was about to jump out of her chest.

"Okay, I understand," Dashiell said calmly.

So calm that there was no sign of any emotional fluctuation.
