Chapter 140 Sowing Discord
The hall buzzed with people coming and going.
Cecilia trailed behind her dad as he mingled with a group.
He bumped into some old friends and started chatting again. Cecilia felt awkward just standing there, so she excused herself and headed to the restroom.
She noticed Alaric was busy talking with his brother Christopher and didn't want to interrupt.
After using the restroom, she was touching up her makeup.
Suddenly, Eloise appeared in the mirror.
Cecilia glanced at her and kept fixing her makeup.
Eloise turned on the faucet, washing her fingers. "Mrs. Whitaker, what a coincidence."
Cecilia nodded.
"Remember when you mocked me at the party for clinging to Mr. Kingsley? Things have really changed now," Eloise said sarcastically.
Cecilia replied, "I was just reminding you to know your place. Some people aren't worth the effort."
Eloise's expression shifted slightly.
Cecilia finished her lipstick and checked herself in the mirror. "Take care."
With that, she turned and walked away.
Her confident and commanding demeanor was a far cry from the Cecilia Eloise remembered.
Why had Cecilia changed so much?
Eloise wasn't dumb. She knew a man like Dominic could never be fully possessed by any woman. He prioritized his interests, and to him, women either satisfied his power or his desires. Anyone who truly fell in love with him would be miserable for life. She had even thought about how tragic Cecilia's life would be after marrying Dominic. But she hadn't expected Cecilia to see through Dominic's facade before the wedding and marry another man.
Although Alaric wasn't much better, at least he was transparent about who he was. Everyone knew what kind of person he was, and he couldn't be worse than that. But Dominic was different; no one knew his limits or how bad he could get. At least Eloise had seen some of his ruthless methods over the years, which were beyond the reach of ordinary people.
If she didn't want to gain power through Dominic, she wouldn't have stayed by his side.
As Eloise walked out of the restroom, she saw Dominic forcibly taking Cecilia away in the distance.
Even though Eloise had a slight change of perception about Cecilia, it didn't change the fact that she had to bring Cecilia down from her high place.
After all, she was now helping Dominic for money and benefits, and anyone who threatened Dominic was naturally her enemy.
It had to be said that over the years, Eloise had learned a lot of ruthless ideas from Dominic.
In the garden.
Cecilia was dragged out by Dominic.
She had just come out of the restroom and saw Dominic standing there. She thought he was waiting for Eloise, but as soon as she walked over, Dominic grabbed her and dragged her to the other side. She wanted to scream but decided against causing unnecessary trouble.
Dominic also knew that in such a setting, Cecilia wouldn't really make a scene. In high society, many things couldn't be openly argued about.
Cecilia was smart enough not to ruin her reputation because of him.
Moreover, it was clear that Cecilia and Alaric's reputation was better than Dominic's. He was now the typical douchebag.
No matter how he acted, in the eyes of others, he had cheated, been jilted, and ruined all the good image he had built up in his previous life.
And the culprit of all this was Cecilia.
"Let go of me!" Cecilia struggled; she was clearly displeased.
Dominic tightened his grip.
Thinking about all he had lost because of Cecilia, he wanted to kill her at that moment!
"Dominic, do you want to bark like a dog again?" Cecilia stopped struggling and coldly looked at Dominic, threatening him.
Dominic's grip faltered for a moment.
"Do you think Cassius would keep it from me?" Cecilia sneered.
She was reminding him that she knew all about the time Cassius had forced him to kneel and even bark like a dog.
"I'll count to three. If you don't let go, we'll both go down together!" Cecilia's eyes narrowed.
Just as she was about to speak.
Dominic let go, feeling threatened by Cecilia.
He believed that if he pushed Cecilia too far, she would do anything.
He couldn't understand why Cecilia had changed so much.
She used to be completely under his control, but now she had inexplicably changed, and so thoroughly.
He had heard rumors that, during her brief tenure at the Lockhart Group, she had not only left a significant mark but had also successfully ousted her father's chief competitor from the company.
When had Cecilia become so capable?
Dominic couldn't figure it out. He couldn't accept such a drastic change in Cecilia. He was struggling to suppress and adjust his emotions.
Dominic said, "I'm sorry, Cecilia. I was impulsive just now."
Cecilia paused.
The next second, she laughed sarcastically.
So Dominic still intended to maintain the facade in front of her?
Dominic said, "Not just now, but also the last time. It was my jealousy that made me do those things to you. I really regret it."
"You probably regret that Cassius recorded the video," Cecilia mocked.
"Cassius did embarrass me, but what I regret most is what I did to you." Dominic put on his disguise again, trying to get close to her and deceive her.
Did Dominic really think she was that easy to fool?
Cecilia said, "Dominic, if you want to keep pretending, go ahead. But I can tell you very clearly that everything you do is a waste of time for me. Maybe not entirely a waste, since it disgusts me."
Dominic's emotions were visibly collapsing.
Cecilia didn't even want to look at Dominic anymore; she couldn't stand talking to him for another second.
She suddenly couldn't understand what she had seen in Dominic in the first place.
She walked past him.
Just as she was about to step away, she screamed, "Ah!"
Dominic suddenly grabbed her, causing her to stumble and fall into his arms.
Cecilia's face contorted into a deep shade of livid.
Just as she was about to resist, Dominic quickly let her go, acting very gentlemanly. "Cecilia, you're wearing such high heels, be careful."
Cecilia frowned.
Had Dominic gone crazy from all the recent blows?
"I can't always be by your side now, so you need to take care of yourself," he said with a gentle smile, looking very affectionate.
At that moment, he even reached out, trying to touch Cecilia's hair.
Cecilia dodged. As she did, she noticed Alaric standing not far away.
